I wish that more of our generation knew what REAL music is, not this electronic/rap/pop rubbish that is apparently 'popular'!!! There's plenty of good music outside just rock, many artists in the genres you mention make music as or more meaningful than many rock bands, there's good and bad in every genre. Also music that's more pop/frivolous has existed and been popular since modern music has existed, it isn't a new thing. Neither is the crowd at an awards show where people are there for the whole show and not just one act's performance not being the most enthusiastic. The performance is for everyone watching on TV more than anything. An awards show isn't the same thing as a concert and shouldn't be expected to be, it's normal for the crowd to be like that. If you produce music just to earn money and be "popular", well you don't make music. You are just a business man. There is a lot of music that I love, like funk, blues, jazz, country and even classical music (in fact I play the violin). Just because I don't like Shawn Mendes or Justin Bieber, it doesn't mean I am ignorant.

I wasn't calling you out for naming two artists, but for the typical comments on GDC about music you guys claim not to be real. That's ignorance It's obvious that we have a totally different perception of what ignorance is. Do you call it music when some sounds are put together and don't give you any feeling? I don't. This is my point of view.

There's good and bad music of every genre even if they're not all to your taste. Don't know if it applies to you but I think it's true that a lot of Green Day fans and rock fans in general tend to dismiss other genres unfairly when they don't know a lot about them. It makes GD fans look quite closed minded and childish when they dismiss vast and hugely varied music genres like pop, rap and electronic music every time GD plays an event that includes them. I may appear closed minded or whatever, but since I have grown up (and I'm still growing up) with a strong sense of how I perceive music (because it changed and will change my life) I really don't like rap or pop in general. This is my music taste. Open minded or not this is how I think. If you agree, well, I am glad. If you don't, better, because I love discussing with you about music

I don't think it's closed minded to dislike it or have a strong preference for one genre. It's just kind of a shame to see it all dismissed as "not music" and stuff by GD/rock fans so often. Ok, thank you. It's real that I have my opinion, but when I called it "not music" maybe it was too much...

Totally! Although the place would definitely be crazy if we were all at a GD concert!!! 6 hours ago, Eric said: You agreed with "I know right!?!?? I wasn't calling you out for naming two artists, but for the typical comments on GDC about music you guys claim not to be real. That's ignorance I do believe that all music is 'real', but music from artists such as GD feels particularly 'real' to me - full of emotion, honesty etc. I used those genres as examples because a lot (but not all) of today's pop music tends to be written similarly, where the main aim of a song isn't necessarily to evoke an emotion as a listener, but perhaps marketing it for the sake of money and fame. Believe me, I have had experience listening to a lot of genres!!! For example, my parents are big 70s fans/glam rock and my dad in particular likes Black Sabbath and the like (who actually aren't too bad!). My brothers also enjoy rap (just today I was exposed to Kendrick Lamar by my oldest brother). There's lots of music out there, in different genres, with different messages and with difference feelings/emotion, so there's definitely bound to be genres people enjoy and ones they don't enjoy as much. That's what I do enjoy about music today - there's so much choice, we just have to find what we do enjoy!!!

Same. This is what I meant (mabye with too much extremism).

That's ignorance I'm really sorry if I came across as dismissive of those genres. I do appreciate them in that they give us choice and musical diversity. Of course, music will always be music! All music is real to me, but there's just a certain emotion that's evoked in me when I listen to GD, through the honest, relatable lyrics and catchy tunes. For me, that emotion is what makes music feel 'real' to me - the fact that it has the power to make me feel the way that it does. I'm sorry again if there were any misunderstandings, and I hope that what I wrote here makes some kind of sense! x
