Green Day to be honored and perform at the EMAs

I watched TV with my parents and there was a report about the whole EMA event. Then they talked about Green Day's appearance and my parents looked at me and joked: "hey, it's your buddies". When the reporter said they're active for around 30 years, they were shocked, because that meant Green Day are older than they look. I told them they're all turning 45 this year and my mom said "That's not how 45 years old looks".
Then they played a short clip from their performance of American Idiot (because of the "Trump Amrica" thing) and my dad siad in a sarcastic tone "what a quality music".

So which performance did you like the most out of the two?

Has to be American Idiot.  I thought Bang Bang was great, my mum even said she liked it more than the studio version.  But when they performed AI it just felt better.  The emotion was there, obviously because of the election, the playing was so on point, and they read the crowd really well.  When Billie normally seems to leave the last line after the gap bit (is calling out to idiot America) for the audience to sing, but he knew they wouldn't do it so he semi-did it himself.  To make such a non-GD, non-rock crowd so excited is exactly what the band, and rock in general, needs right now.

I think both performances were completely amazing, but Billie saying, "Stay sexy, my friends," quite possibly might be the best part of the entire show! (Well, that and the terrifying U shaped brown furry thing with the dead eyes 👀)

Yes the "Stay sexy my friends" was most definitely one of the highlights! ;) Only Billie!

How could I miss the terrifying U shaped brown furry thing with dead eyes!?!?

@bouncingoffthewallbja Wait what bullshit? I missed out on something.

During Green Day's performance at the EMAs, the crowd were practically dead! Billie Joe tried a good few times to get the crowd to interact and enjoy themselves. The crowd can be compared to (on a certain level) the terrible iHeartRadio crowd in 2012. It's probably bc the people there were for Justin Bieber/Shawn Mendes and other rubbish acts like that. The crowd just didn't appreciate the fact that living legends were performing in front of them, who have been on the scene for 30 years and counting!! (Sorry this was really long, I just had to get that out about the crowd:toocool:)

I honestly think Green Day should stop performing at these stupid Award shows.

The crowd is horrible, Green Day deserves much better than this.

it's crazy when you compare the crowd from that EMA's to the crowd at the 2009 EMA's - what a difference.
is it all dependent on the country it's in as well? because when they played at the EMA's in 2009 (i'm 90% sure they opened it), the crowd went fucking off.

Right. Oh, and they came back home without the best rock, won by someone who is not rock, at least not today.

Totally agree. That is not even music. It makes no sense. If you produce music just to earn money and be "popular", well you don't make music. You are just a business man.

Exactly! But the huge problem is, artists such as Bieber and Mendes have come onto the scene post 2009, so the crowds at the EMAs probably differ because of this! It's a shame the crowd didn't at least move - just something to show that  they were alive and in the presence of fabulous musicians!

You know what? I was so focused on Green Day I didn't even notice the crowd :P But yeah that seriously stinks. I know we all would go nuts if we were there!

I think the crowd didn't really move in general so not just during GD's songs but for all other artists' performances (I watched all of them...)

When they did American Idiot, GD was able to engage the audience more and it seemed to me that the crowd came alive a little bit. Props to the guys for always trying their best to make the audience be a part of the performance even though that crowd was not easy at all... that's why their live shows are so good

Exactly! American Idiot is one of those songs that the majority of people recognise, so that was a major factor in a better crowd response than Bang Bang. It may also have been because AI was the last performance of athe evening, and boy oh boy, did the show go out with a bang!!!!!

Same, I was just so thrilled to see Green Day performing, I didn't take much notice of the crowd until after I watched the videos back a couple of times! Those performances were truly mesmerising!
