I'm sure they feel playing as many hits as possible to get audience interaction (along with bringing them on stage) is the best way to approach each show. Playing a different song every night doesn't fit into that equation. If you look at the setlist, 90% of them were massive hits. And the songs on the setlist that aren't massive hits serve a purpose (KFAD, "the token old school green day song", the extra AI songs, Knowledge). They are doing this to please the 95% of the audience that are casual fans (seeing them for the first time, only own 1-3 albums, etc.). They are doing what they think are going to put the most butts in those seats. They don't feel the need to appease the die hards because they are going to show up to the show regardless of what they play (and they put on a good show). Playing a set that includes a couple songs from Insomniac, 39 Smooth, or from the Trilogy doesn't make sense when more than half the audience don't own those albums. The few times this tour when they deviated from their template is when Billie probably got bored and felt like playing something different. I'm not too mad at that....looking back, what I am mad about is during the club tour they didn't scrap their standard setlist and play different rare songs each night. Sure they played Private and Arm' Shanks alot....but they played them almost every night and didn't switch it up and play other "old school" songs. There shouldn't have been KFAD or more than 4 AI songs for any of those shows. That should have been the time to appease the real "old school Green Day fans" that are dying to hear 1,000 hours, Haushinka, Android, Westbound Sign, 86, Dirty Rotten Bastards, or [insert amazing Green Day song that has never been played live/hasn't been played in 20 years]. That's the real tragedy to me. Same here- my wife (a more casual fan than I but still a big fan) was a little disappointed after our club show since she had been hoping it would have more of a "club" atmosphere- deeper setlist/ more improvised feel. But it was the typical stadium setlist with a couple changes in the middle. I also felt the same disappointment, but I thought it was just me given that I've been to a ton of shows and eat, breathe, and sweat Green Day. But it wasn't just the most hardcore fans who felt this- it was also the mainstream fan as well. Like I mentioned earlier, first world problem and we're damn lucky to have Green Day touring at this point, but still- the setlist could be better. I don't know if you've read but Blink 182 fans were flipping out cause they played a club show recently and did the same generic set they always do. like when bands play an intimate venue, they obviously need to practice a little but I don't believe they need to practise playing all the hits they've played a million times before. I loved that middle part of the set of that show. It was what made me buy tickets to see them 8 times this year but damn if I knew they weren't gonna keep that I probably wouldn't have bought so many

Almost an out-of-body experience. And then it went back into the regular set, which was great, but the deep cut portion was phenomenal. Have you been to multiple shows and still find it exciting? Well then, awesome. I found it kind of boring the third time. After 20 it's unbearable. I know, first world problems... I meant most enjoyable.and yesh?..exciting for everyone even all of band member involve...and for audience to enjoy

Never gonna happen, but a girl can dream. They did exactly this for their Rough Trade show on the day of RevRad release. Sadly, it was the only time they did something like this in what seems like decades.

I didn't suggest to drop any songs in particular. All I said was that everyone in this thread have different preferances when it comes which songs we want to hear. After going to a lot of shows I would rather want to hear some songs they rarely play instead of the same ones over and over. Changing one song for instance won't change the vibe of the show for more casual fans, but would be amazing for the ones of us who goes to several shows for each tour. I would have been more excited than I already was at that show if they played some older songs (except 2000 light years away). But it would be more ideal for their own headliner show instead of a festival.

Like, as a public figure and especially as the most prominent figure of a band, you do have certain responsibilities. And I do sometimes feel like this doesn't really register with Billie. He probably didn't think much about what he was doing then and the fact that it could get a lot of us very excited. So, this isn't like a broken promise (or tease), but more like a promise that was never made, or tease not even intended as a tease... Putting this aside, they've only played 3 shows of the this leg, so it's a bit unfair to assume they won't play any Insomniac further down the line (I think they can only completely ignore that fantastic album for so long tbh), but that is still very well possible. So my revised (moderate) wish list is: -play more of what you soundchecked (I.e: Homecoming and East Jesus Nowhere) -play a different/ unplayed/ rarely played songs from RevRad -play at least one song from Insomniac My expectations have gone down massively, I know... I believe he knows this and does this on purpose to fuck with us/keep us excited

I would prefer a lot of songs from Insomniac, Kerplunk & 1039 but that won't happen. I don't see how them changing one or two songs for more rare ones would matter. Like when they played Paper Lanterns in Gothenburg, it's a 2 minute song. That's not what's going to stand out after the show.
RedundantIdiot
Here's two options I think will please most fans: Option 1: drop Waiting/ and or Are we the Waiting and alternate between Armatage Shanks, GSB, Brainstew, and something off Kerplunk Option 2: alternate between 2000 LYA, Armatage Shanks, GSB, Brainstew, and something off Kerplunk playing 2 out of these 5 at each gig. It probably won't happen but I think it would make both frequent GD concert goers and occasional GD concert goers happy as both sets of fans should know these songs. Hermione
Until this year I'd never been positioned near the catwalk at a GD show before and I could take or leave Are We the Waiting, but at the O2 in February I was and omg I totally fell in love with it . The way Billie reaches out to and sings to the crowd during it is so great. With him doing that along with the whole crowd swaying and singing along it's iconic. Drop bloody JOS instead! I know everyone loves it but all they really do is play it straight through so there's no great on stage traditions lost, and it's long, and Forever Now has surpassed it as a more powerful and epic performance so I don't think it's strictly needed now. Well, the first time I saw Phish I only knew a couple of their songs and was blown away. And with Pearl Jam I knew about 8 out of the 20 songs and was also blown away. Sometimes when a band is that good- when they blow away the audience inclusive of those who know only a handful of hits but little else- they're still able to not only carry the show but also win new fans who feel intellectually curious about exploring the deeper catalogue as a result of the show. A show doesn't have to be a an end-all experience- if a band is good enough live (and Green Day absolutely is), it can be an introduction and invitation to explore the deeper catalogue. For example, when I first saw Green Day in '95 I had no idea that Road to Acceptance, Pasalacqua, Paper Lanterns, etc. even existed- but the next day I was sure as hell hunting those songs down at the mall and immersing myself in those songs. That show was an education. And 25 years later I feel so strongly tied into the band I'm posting about it online.

I actually find it funny how they talk about how they've pieced the setlist together so well etc but it goes like this... King For A Day/ Shout for 10+ mins Still Breathing Forever Now (a good 7-8minutes) American Idiot JesusnOf Suburbia (9+ mins) I think JOS is a great song but I hate it at the end, it's too long to enjoy. Back when it was at the front of the set I loved it.

Songs performed with extra stuff going on > songs just played through, with over half of American Idiot played every night they can afford to drop a song from it, and with it being the longest it's the most useful to drop. 6 hours ago, Destiny. said: And KFAD?
