HOW on earth can you drop these songs??? She is okay but really...? :o

From your posts it doesn't seem like you've been to a lot of Green Day shows. That's probably the main difference. :)When you've heard a song a number of times, I would rather change it for something they rarely play.

I love that people are already posting the set list to tonight's show on setlist.fm when it hasn't even started 😂

And it hasn't been mentioned for about 3 pages at this point so here goes- death to King For a Day already! Loved it when the album came out, became lukewarm to it after the Warped Tour/ festivals from '98-00, broke up with it permanently during AI, loathed it during 21CB as it killed the momentum of their otherwise ungodly insane shows at their peak, despised it during the Trilogy Tour, and now I just honestly want to bludgeon the song, nuke it, then scatter its ashes over the ocean once I break out of this god damn padded dungeon of hell known as King For A Day.

I know I'm the minority here, but I absolutely don't get the hate for KFAD. It's such a fun, crazy song when it's performed live and it's always a highlight for me. It's so fun to watch how much they enjoy it and it's just so THEM: crazy, colourful, infantile, queer, a little bit embarrassing - just everything:lol: I really have no idea which other song (or songs) could ever replace it entertainment-wise. It just wouldn't feel like Green Day anymore.

The medley is crap.

After 71 pages - GD add a section for old school GD fans - 3 or 4 songs - this won't interfere with any stage pyro etc & for the love of god #nokfadonthesetlist

STAY on topic - this is where we are at👹👑😎🤘

Yesss all of this :D. They could switch up the covers they do during Shout. But I don't even mind if they don't and other than that it's perfect.

I personally cannot do anything with their setlist. It's all about preference regarding which songs we want to hear.

Plus there's a difference between which songs I prefer to play at home and those I'd like to hear live singing with a crowd. I may be sick of Holiday and rarely choose to listen to it but it sure is fun with a crowd, for example.

What I would absolutely love to see them do (but they never ever will) is to just play one show where they scrap all the hits and frequently played songs, and only play deep cuts.

Never gonna happen, but a girl can dream.

Agreed! KFAD is one of the songs I look most forward to.

What's still frustrating to this day is the songs they soundcheck vs. the songs they end up playing. For example: they recently soundchecked both Homecoming and East Jesus Nowhere. However (so far) they haven't played either, but I'm burning to hear both!

Yeah at least it proves they remember how to play it. Can't use that excuse like he did with the Grouch.

Is nobody going to mention them not delivering after teasing Insomniac?

Yeah, this is the side of Billie that annoys me a bit. Like, as a public figure and especially as the most prominent figure of a band, you do have certain responsibilities. And I do sometimes feel like this doesn't really register with Billie. He probably didn't think much about what he was doing then and the fact that it could get a lot of us very excited. So, this isn't like a broken promise (or tease), but more like a promise that was never made, or tease not even intended as a tease...

Putting this aside, they've only played 3 shows of the this leg, so it's a bit unfair to assume they won't play any Insomniac further down the line (I think they can only completely ignore that fantastic album for so long tbh), but that is still very well possible.

So my revised (moderate) wish list is:

-play more of what you soundchecked (I.e: Homecoming and East Jesus Nowhere)

-play a different/ unplayed/ rarely played songs from RevRad

-play at least one song from Insomniac

My expectations have gone down massively, I know...

I'm actually hoping you're right, that it doesn't register with him. It's just even more frustrating after teasing Insomniac one more time in the past week after already being back on the road, and even hashtaging it.

True

&

not really within the extent of his responsibilities as the frontman, IMO :P

I'm sure he's aware that he's very much the face outwards for the band, for example I doubt him playing Fell For You on insta was a coincidence, and he's been consistent in talking about the tour on his livestreams etc. But I don't think he can be expected to weigh his every word like that on the off chance that (obsessive) fans will analyse it to hell and back. That would drive me personally crazy  If he's sat around at home watching Insomniac he's not gonna stop himself from posting about it just because it's a set list sore spot amongst the ~old school GD fans~/on GDC. Maybe it was just a friendly nod because he knows many fans are waiting for it but they don't intend to include any of the songs for whatever reason.

The thing with the setlists that I find the most baffling is this:

They played Armatage Shanks at Leeds after asking what fans wanted to hear, it's sounded great (I can vouch for this as I was there), and it got a great reaction from the crowd- but they haven't played it since.

They played 21 Guns in Germany after the power outage, it sounds great from the footage, and it got a great reaction from the crowd- and they've played it since.

I do like 21 Guns, but how come it's become a fixture on the set list, yet they couldn't play Armatage Shanks again? Or even something else off Insomniac? The Leeds gig is my only gig this tour, but I do think that others would want to hear something off Insomniac.

Totally. So let's try for a reverse jinx- hopefully we'll get a little Pasalacqua/ Scattered/ Paper Lanterns out of it.

Disclaimer- the above isn't exactly asking for the moon and the stars- they've played all of these songs within the last year. A big ask would be asking them to cover the White Album front to back or something (which, by the way, Phish did for Halloween one year by surprise).

They don't have to do something zany or weird. Just 2/3 of their great songs that we don't hear all....the...time (that's a thought right there- All The Time wouldn't be a bad choice at all).

And it hasn't been mentioned for about 3 pages at this point so here goes- death to King For a Day already! cut out KFAD are you out of your mind??..that is one of most hightlight and excitiing part of GD.gig!..if the boys decided to do that?..I am out! just kidding. but NO!

So during their show at Hyde Park for example, you would have dropped Boulevard, Longview and those other songs you mentioned?

I feel like having hope that they are going to switch up what they are doing is a lost cause.  I'm sure they feel playing as many hits as possible to get audience interaction (along with bringing them on stage) is the best way to approach each show.  Playing a different song every night doesn't fit into that equation.  If you look at the setlist, 90% of them were massive hits.  And the songs on the setlist that aren't massive hits serve a purpose (KFAD, "the token old school green day song", the extra AI songs, Knowledge).  They are doing this to please the 95% of the audience that are casual fans (seeing them for the first time, only own 1-3 albums, etc.).  They are doing what they think are going to put the most butts in those seats.  They don't feel the need to appease the die hards because they are going to show up to the show regardless of what they play (and they put on a good show).  Playing a set that includes a couple songs from Insomniac, 39 Smooth, or from the Trilogy doesn't make sense when more than half the audience don't own those albums.  The few times this tour when they deviated from their template is when Billie probably got bored and felt like playing something different.

I'm not too mad at that....looking back, what I am mad about is during the club tour they didn't scrap their standard setlist and play different rare songs each night.  Sure they played Private and Arm' Shanks alot....but they played them almost every night and didn't switch it up and play other "old school" songs.  There shouldn't have been KFAD or more than 4 AI songs for any of those shows.  That should have been the time to appease the real "old school Green Day fans" that are dying to hear 1,000 hours, Haushinka, Android, Westbound Sign, 86, Dirty Rotten Bastards, or [insert amazing Green Day song that has never been played live/hasn't been played in 20 years].  That's the real tragedy to me.

We got about 45 minutes of this at Webster in the fall and it was amazing. Almost an out-of-body experience. And then it went back into the regular set, which was great, but the deep cut portion was phenomenal.

Have you been to multiple shows and still find it exciting? Well then, awesome. I found it kind of boring the third time. After 20 it's unbearable. I know, first world problems...

I like King For A Day I just hate shout.

if I'm honest, my belief is they have that Green Day sign that drops down for those two songs, they probably see it as "I paid for it im gonna use it"
