if the setlist stays ike that i definelty  won't spend that much money on a concert. i just can't deal with 10 minutes hitchin a ride, 10 minutes kfad and 10 minutes minority anymore. how the fuck do they think people enjoy stretching those songs like that? everybody i talk to about green day in real life complains about it or even doesn't go to their live concerts anymore because of the annoying crowd "entertaining".

and what i don't get is, why they do it. surely it would be more fun for them to change songs once in a while, too? and when i see a band i want them to see them have fun and not just play their show like a rountine job.

i know they have the potential to be a great live band and they are wasting it.

no offense to anyone who is "thankful to at least see them".

You're talking like everyone who sees them has seen them before. Those who are seeing them for the first time probably have a much different view.

Plus it's only the third show, and before the album is out. They may be planning a setlist overhaul once it's out because maybe they think there's no point changing it til then?

They are a great live band. I'll admit there are songs they could replace with others but I'm not the one playing the frigging music, and it's not just me they have to please.

Why is everyone defending the set list saying "oh well not everyone knows all their songs so they have to just play the hits". This is not a stadium tour with people saying "oh Green Day is in town next week? I like a few of their songs, I'm gonna get $20 lawn seats for my family so we can enjoy a fun night out".

This is an intimate club tour. Casual fans probably didn't even know about it until the tickets were gone. The set list they played was very similar to their stadium tours (and even then they'd change out 2-3 old/rare songs a night and swap them with different ones).

I understand the stadium tours have to have all the hits. And Green Day puts on an amazing show, partially because it's so scripted (not only are they playing the same set list every night, but Billie says almost exactly the same things at the same points during the show). They are not a band that's meant to be seen more than once per tour (and frankly sometimes he even keeps the same speeches from tour to tour). It's kind of like seeing your favorite movie; you know from the moment you press play you're going to be entertained, but it's gonna be the same thing each time you watch it. It's reliable; there are no risks involved, but there are also no surprises, either.

When the club tour was announced, I was really thinking it'd be similar to the Irving Plaza club show they played in 2012 before Uno was released. Around 7-8 new trilogy songs, all the staples, and then a good chunk of random ratites like Brat, JAR, 409 in Your Coffeemaker, Dissapearing Boy, Only of You, Stuck With Me, At the Library, Paper Lanterns, etc. They did 38 songs in over 3 hours.

Then I saw the first night in Ohio they played a really safe, short set. Similar to a stadium show but shorter (which I'm not sure if it was on purpose or just because they weren't feeling well, which is fine, I get it, and I'm really glad they're pushing through this). But I thought for sure they'd at least switch out 2-3 of the older/rarer stuff with different old/rare stuff but they didn't even do that. Super surprising.

I love Green Day so much and I'd go to a show just to see them play King for a Day and then walk off the stage lol, so I'm not complaining. Maybe the fact that they never change up the set list is what makes them so good live. I just thought if there was ever a chance to hear some random old stuff casual fans wouldn't know, it would be on this tour. It would have been a nice treat, but I'd still rather see Green Day play the same set list at every show I go to over seeing any other band.

I can try and justify these setlists with the fact that a) it's their first time touring in 3 years so they have to find their groove again b) they're most likely still recovering from the illness c) they're older and might not necessarily have the energy and gusto that they did 6 years ago.

But it still remains that they're playing the most generic setlist of their careers. 2 1/2 hours of the biggest hits and crowd pleasers, with 3-4 new songs peppered in. That's bullshit, and that's not worth $80/ticket (most likely even $150+/ticket because of the overwhelming amount of scalping). Even if it's someone who hasn't seen them before or only once or twice. They built up their live shows as something to be guessed every night, and they aren't living up to that standard or expectation anymore through no fault but their own.

'They have potential to be a great band'  They have been a great live band since they started touring in the 80's and they've just gotten better and bettet over the years.

I really don't agree with this, at all. I paid around $60 a ticket for my show that was a little over 2 hours. Many other artists as popular/well-known as Green Day charge a whole lot more, barely interact with the audience, and play a shorter set. I know there are also artists who play 3-hour sets and change their setlist drastically every night. But saying its bullshit to see a band that puts on such a fantastic, accessible live show doesn't sound quite right to me. Entitled to your opinion of course and I respect that, but I've spent more money on sweaters than I've spent on Green Day tickets. Spending that money seeing my favorite band play songs that keep the crowd revved up all night long is well worth the money.

They are genuinely one of the best live acts around. I know we want a more diverse setlist (I'd like one, too), but saying they're no good in concert because they play similar sets is strange to me.

I'll bitch about the setlist, sure, because I know the standard setlist off by heart and want some variety. But calling it a waste of money because they don't change it up is kinda ridiculous? Don't get me wrong, a setlist change up would be great, fantastic, but at the end of the day you're just paying to see Green Day play a show like you would any other artist. They're not actually obliged to change it up or anything.

This setlist seems good to me, but yeah I would like them to add some new songs and play songs like X Kid and Rusty James too.

I would not mind seeing Wake Me Up When September Ends too.

Did I say they're no good in concert? I said their setlists are bs and boring and not up to their caliber. I find it rather boring that they're literally playing the same songs they've been playing for the last 7 years, but taking out all of the good stuff.

When they play it's fucking great. They nail it every time. But hearing all the same songs over and over again for 7 years? BOORRRIIINNGG.

True story, when AI closed on Broadway I was right against the stage less than a foot away from Billie at times, and while they were performing letterbomb I started clapping before Billie initiated it because I knew it was coming and he looked right at me in such a confused way. Like, bitch I know what you're gonna say next.  You're gonna yell 'GET THOSE HANDS UP IN THE AIR!' and I beat him to it. Nice to see its still happening to this day 😂

Would definitely be good to see a bit more variation. I was expecting to see a lot more new songs at these shows.  Hopefully once the album drops they'll mix it up a bit more (as unlikely as that does seem - you would have thought they'd have done it by now).

It's been done to death, they've literally been doing that for over a decade now. If they cut out that bullshit and played a few tunes for the hardcore fans in the room they'd never get stale.

Their setlist from last night was actually a bit more varied than usual- they must've been reading all the comments on this thread!

Songs which made it onto last night setlist include Murder City, 21 Guns, Having a Blast, Wild One, Missing You and Nuclear Family. They are clearly warming up for bigger shows whilst playing different songs in the process.

Here's the link to the setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/green-day/2016/tower-theatre-upper-darby-pa-5bfdd7bc.html

When they played those songs?

During the soundcheck?

They didn't play them at all. Some clown put random songs on the setlist. See my updated post.

Now I cannot speak, I've lost my voice

This set list is redundant

Because I love this band so much, it drives me nuts.

C'mon guys, seeing you tomorrow- let's put together a "big boy" set list and leave the crutches/ binkies (here's looking at you, KFAD) off!

Can Billie even play for that long? He looked gassed during Still Breathing. I never saw him sing that bad. :ermm:

I bet he's still recovering from whatever sickness he had for weeks. I'm sure that effects vocals too.

I know I'm going to get slated for this, but they really need to either up their game on Still Breathing or take it out entirely. As much as I like the song, Billie seriously sounds like the an X Factor joke act while singing it :ermm:

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed but maybe it's because of what @munz6691 said
