At this point I just wish they'd ditch 2KLYA. Out of all of their old songs they can't pick something better?

Whenever Billie says they're about to play a song from Kerplunk I get so excited and then he says it's 2klya and it's such a letdown :( I don't dislike that song at all but this is what happens every single time.

It must be a lot harder to be spontaneous and changeable on an arena  tour with pyro and backdrop and lighting design.  It's like theatre and every song is choreographed and the crew have to know what to do, when to switch guitars, move a mic etc. changing the setlist means redoing all of that on the fly. Mike mentioned in a RS interview that you do that more easily in a club than in an arena which is why they like to go deep in clubs.

I'd agree in principle, but they managed to pull that off previously on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour and they had waaaay more production on that one, so why not now?

This is just a guess but it is possible that a fixed setlist gives Billie more safety now that he's not on pills and alcohol anymore. As insane as the 21CB tour was, we shouldn't forget that Billies problems started to get out of control around that time... but whatever their reasons are, I agree with @Hermione that it's more about putting together the perfect show and keeping the energy high for all people in the audience rather than pleasing a small minority of die-hard fans with rarities or setlist changes. And I think we really can't complain about the level of energy right now. :)

The setlist still didn't change that much on that tour though. I guess they did make more changes from leg to leg but they still always stuck to a very choreographed core setlist.

His fav song from that album is Holden Caufield I wish they'd play that

Yeah, I know, but I guess I don't care tbh. The way it was done then at least meant we could still expect one or a few suprises every other show (or at least some variation). Now, we're getting next to nothing new or even different... I mean, just look at how the setlists varied during the summer tour of the states in 2010. Again, I think this might get better towards the end of the leg, but it's still frustrating...

I honestly don't understand why people are getting so bent out of shape by the set list. We've been going through this for almost a year and they haven't changed it, except for some rare occasions. They are not going to change it much and when they do it will be limited. They clearly feel they will put on a better show if they don't change the set list. I'm sure there are a variety of reasons, which they only know for sure. They are not Phish, or the Chili Peppers, etc, they are Green Day and they are doing the shows the best way they feel they can. The energy level is amazing and when you are at the show it is one big roller coaster from beginning to end.

Just go into the show knowing the set list isn't changing and you won't be disappointed. And if you are at the rare show where they do add something different, it will be extra exciting.

Overall I thought the Portland show was great, and to me the VIP experience was worth it since I don't have the luxury of being able to go to multiple shows (I felt bad for the people who were frying in the 100+ degree weather, I was a little bummed that there wasn't even one song from Insomniac. But even with that said, there was no way that I was going to miss the show.

Do you not think that's why it's still getting discussed? It's been a year and it's not changing so get used to it?

Its surprising that they haven't changed it which is why people are still going on about it. I would have bet a good chunk of money on them changing it up this leg but they haven't, I think it's worth discussing.

People still act like this is the first tour where they didn't change the setlist much though. They've literally never been a band who changes their setlist loads, if you'd gone to multiple shows in 1994 you would've seen the same every night too. Sometimes there's been tours where they switched up more songs from leg to leg but even then it's not been massive changes. I get being interested to know what they've played or if they've made changes but I'm not sure why there's so much disappointment over lack of changes when it's really nothing new. No problem with it being discussed but that's just my view on it.

I just wish they'd play new/different songs from Rev Rad, honestly. The classics are the classics, and they're fun for people seeing Green Day for the first or tenth time. But since is their second go around the U.S., I wish they'd switch up what they're playing from Rev Rad.

Translation: For the love of all things holy, don't write a song like Say Goodbye and then never play it live.

Yeah I'd love more Rev Rad songs too. They have a history of not playing that many new songs from each album and leaving out/never playing some really good ones but still would be nice, I just love the album so much so the more from it the better.

I love the John Mayer approach, where he said he just makes a setlist on the day of the gig depending on how he feels, what he wants to play etc. Just look at the difference in his 2 O2 Arena gigs, one day apart. Huge difference, a load of deep cuts, would make me go twice in a row.

But shame they haven't changed up much, WTP should be a staple always so that's good - was disappointed at lack of Christie Road on 2nd EU leg. Come on, they surely can't hate Insomniac that much?

A lot of people don't know this but John Mayer is possibly the best living musician. He is without a doubt the best living guitarist. It's not even a close one. He's better than Clapton, Anastasio, and maybe May would be his only living contest.

He he is an improvisational jazz player. He is the opposite of Green Day. We were just having this discussion about Phish and the difference between that style and Green Day.

Green Day could change up their lists but it's just not them. Love it or leave it, it's just a fact.  I love different bands for different things. I'll tell you this though, there is no other band I would rather see play the same songs over and over. It's never the same. It's a lot the crowd that makes the GD shows as it is all shows actually but GD shows NEED it. Mayer played his best ever some nights ago at the echoplex in front of 300 people before a sold out forum show.  Green Day is the only band where just so often, because of BJA they connect with the audience and make each and every show a magical one.  Again, Mayer could play an amazing show in front of 10 people.  I am so happy he is just finally comfortable with himself and now he can be what he always was. Mayer will go down as one of, if not the best electric blues/jazz/rock guitarists of the century.

Yeah, I was kind of expecting that they would play that song at some point. We'll see.... They should play it right after Holiday and merge the two songs into each other like they did last year at that radio interview. That was so beautiful.

This x 10,000  Mayer is an unbelievable musician.

Exactly. I don't have a problem with people discussing it. But I just don't understand why people are getting so upset. They have rarely changed their set lists, so this is nothing new

The best thing about the Sheffield show was when he said "do we have any really old-school Green Day fans?" and I was expecting 2000 LYA, so then when they went into Paper Lanterns it made it so much better.

That would be outstanding if they played that live! But I guess it wasn't meant to be. :(

They've played it at soundcheck before IIRC, so maybe it could still happen.  Doubt it'll be on this leg of the tour though.

Same with the Gothenburg show. Glad I got to hear it live twice.

Since they just released Fell for you today I'm thinking maybe they will include it in the setlist.

i know it gets old to complain about the setlist but really, changing up 2-3 songs when they visit the same area from one leg to the other totally makes sense.

It will be so sad if Say Goodbye never gets to be played live during the whole tour.
