oh..why you?..and not me!

and how come you don't like Insomniac?..

No dear, it is well established that I am Billie's favorite fan. Why do you think they don't play anything from INsomniac on tour?

For a ton of reasons but basically because I feel it was the album they put the least effort into.

Some people just didn't get it. If you don't like heavy music and angry genius lyrics, that would be why. It takes quite a bit of effort, even drugged up to write great lyrics and hooky riffs like that. Drums are phenomenal, bass lines are some of my favorite from Mike! Incredible album, have lived by it closely for 22 years:D If there isn't any added into the set this tour, there will be more room next tour. For the Trilogy and 21CB too. She loves Insomniac deep down, you can't fool me. ;)

Actually, I do get it. I don't think it is heavy at all and I don't think the lyrics are angry or genius. The lyrics so show a growth for Billie's writing, I will give that. Every song sounds virtually the same to me. There was nothing diffferent, they took no chances. It was what was expected of them. The vocals were atrocious. I really don't like it. As a matter of fact, I am pretty close to hating it. I really don't understand why people are so bothered by that.

I think it's your favorite album. You brush your teeth to it before bed. :)

I think Billie hinting about Insomniac again means they'll be bringing back Geek Stink Breath, or the Brainstew/Jaded combo. I personally don't understand why everyone loves 86 so much as it's not one of my keens, but I can't seem them making it a regular performance even if they do decide to start playing it.

It's discussion overkill, but it needs to keep being discussed until the band finally get the message: King For A Day needs to go. Or needs a massive overhaul. I would literally take Billie announcing he needs to take a 10 minute interlude halfway through the set over having to hear it performed one more time.

on the note of insomniac, i agree there was nothing really challenging about it or experimental, and not a single chance was taken. but what was to be expected for a direct dookie follow up? whether it wants to be admitted or not even Green Day has to heed to their record label somewhat and in 1994/1995 Billie was pissed off, on meth, drunk and stoned 90% of the time, and the label wanted a follow up for their "best seller" Dookie. To me Insomniac to Dookie is what Take Off Your Pants and Jacket was to Enema of the State for blink-182. only differences were that blink had some improvements instead of remaining stagnant. I, personally love the album to death, but thats because I love angry punk rock music. (and i like the idea of Dookie II and Insomniac is the clsoest we've got at being Dookie 1.5)

Well, I think that part of the "chance" that was taken was that they wanted to create the anti-Dookie- there was no When I Come Around on Insomniac. It was a seething, angry, bile-filled album of chainsaw guitar and snot nosed, sneering vocals and lyrics. Dookie was quite pop and mainstream in comparison. Insomniac was to me (while still a great album) a bit of an overreach in some respect to show how "punk" and non-sellout they were in response to a lot of the criticism they got for going major label. 86 is a great case in point as an angry response to the Gilman crowd that had given them the middle finger. Insomniac was anything but a vanilla, safe record as a follow-up to Dookie- it seemed to be a purposefully amped up "us against the world" effort, almost to say "you say we're not punk? Well eat this".

And, just to stay fully on topic- if they want to replace KFAD with 2/3 Insomniac tracks, well, that would be amazing.

Liking this for spot on Insomniac love and not the trolling.

I'd give an arm to be wrong but I think Billie hinting at Insomniac probably means absolutely nothing :P

If anything, he's thinking one 2 minute slot in the set. Probably an alternating slot for Geek Stink Breath and Armatage Shanks. They'd probably do Armatage Shanks at indoor shows and Geek Stink Breath at outdoor ones perhaps. Just don't care to hear Brain Stew without Jaded and would rather hear any other song from Insomniac that is not Brain Stew.

Well, I definitely heard Brain Stew in the latest ''tour trailer'' that they released today for their home town show in Oakland. Up until now, all the songs in the trailers were songs on the setlist. So, it seems to me they really might be getting ready to play at least something from Insomniac and I really hope they do. In my opinion, they should always have a song from each era (meaning album + tour cycle) on the setlist, while still mixing things up...

OMG YESSSS!!! I hope you're right, whatever they do it's about time they changed the set list up. The set was actually longer at the start of the tour with songs dropping out but not as much added in but the sporadic one off song. I'm hoping to see some real changes for the summer tour. They could easily add at least one or two songs to the permanent set list.

If they were to throw in 3 different songs, i.e something from 1039 or Kerplunk, something off Insomniac, and something off 21st century BD, I think having these 3 songs added to the set list would go a long way towards freshening the set list up. I'd like to see them play something different - and I say this as a fan who will see them once this era.

Agree to all, those are the albums that have been most neglected and AI is unfortunately overplayed at this point.

I'd love to see at least one trilogy-song in the setlist. I'm sure it won't happen, but it feels weird to neglect a whole "era" in the bands history.

I don't think AI is overplayed at all. So they play letterbomb (killer live song), holiday (great song works well live), boulevard (a fuckin anthem. Can't remove it), and american idiot. Plus awtw and st jimmy which worsk so well live and a lot of crowd interaction... Can't skip that one either. I would want to see give me novocaine and whatsername in the set, plus of course wake me up when september ends.
