Billie only gets away with not playing any Insomniac because I understand he wants his favorite fan to be happy

Just a Trilogy random thought, as someone mentioned the before party- party - afterparty theme. Am I the only one who thinks this concept completely failed? In my opinion, these albums don't have that vibe at all. I sure as hell don't feel like in the middle of a party listening to Dos - Lazy Bones, Amy, Lady Cobra, you name it. So many of those songs aren't lighthearted in the slightest. It's more like a "dark side of the party" record if you will.

I think it's both, it has the fun and the dark side of the party (especially ending with Amy!). I don't get when people say it's just fun/party songs either whether they're saying it positively or negatively, there's some really dark and emotional stuff on there.

I do love Insomniac but just strictly in terms of seeing songs live is it really that different whether you're seeing Dookie or Insomniac songs (or even some Kerplunk or Nimrod ones)? Brain Stew would be well worth bringing back because it's more unique with its metal vibe but most of their fast/simple 90s songs give similar live experiences.

Yes, I'm not saying it's entirely serious but quite a big part of it does have dark/serious themes.

I guess not. I imagine that seeing let's say Armatage Shanks would be a lot like seeing Burnout, except angrier :P I'd love Brain Stew/Jaded to make a comeback, though. I like BS, seeing the metal medley would be fun and they haven't done it for a while, plus I love when they change things up a bit so songs don't sound the same as on albums. And Jaded is my personal fave, St. Jimmy of the 90's and the punkest song they have.

Yes, yes exactly. Who could honestly argue against them bringing Brain Stew back? I'll say it again (and won't stop until they've played it): Play Brain Stew Again Please!

I understand it because they simply have too many "essential" songs to play at this point and had to cut some of them. But yeah squeezing in Brain Stew (and Jaded too preferably) would be nice. If it was up to me they'd eliminate JOS for it (although I don't know how popular that would be :P).

No, just swap it out for Youngblood for example.

Takes up more time than that and they're already not playing that many new songs. American Idiot songs need culling :P

i get if you don't like the song but a new song needs to be switched for a new song because there's not enough and it's the same few songs lmao. Too Dumb To Die should become a regular instead of Youngblood, but they need to cut one of the 7 or 8 AI songs for Brain Stew.

Yes, everyone is different, I love Dos. I think it is just pure fun. There is nothing earth shattering on it, it is just fun. But yes, I can fully understand why people don't like it. To me every song on Insomniac just sounds the same. While the lyrics are very good, I can't hear them because the vocals are so bad. I feel it is the album they put the least effort into.

In Dos there are a lot of songs that reminds me the Foxboro Hot Tubs side project. I loved that garage rock type of music.

In particular Fuck Time, Wow That's Loud (love to play the solo), Stop When The Red Lights Flash and Makeout Party.

Oh and there is also Baby Eyes, on Demolicious with Mike intro it sounds way better. Just like most of the songs in the Trilogy.

I have to say i like Insomniac because is very easy to play, in particular i like Geek Stink Breath.

Unfortunately they didn't play Welcome to Paradise in Monza.

Personally I thought instead of releasing the trilogy as they did they should have made Uno the release with a few of the better ones from Tre (Brutal Love, X-Kid) on it.

Dos should have been a second Foxboro Hot Tubs record (because we know we all want one) with a couple songs dropped that didn't fit and Tre could have been just a bonus disc of b-sides.

Still three albums but it wouldn't have felt like being bombarded with so much at once, with Uno as the main event and the other two side projects/extras.

I agree.

Instead of the trilogy, they should have recorded all the trilogy songs and put the best songs into one album. Because there are tons of good songs there

They should have just put the best ones on one album, then released the rest of them as b-sides. That way, we would still get the same amount of songs, but they would be promoting the better ones more.

Judging from Cuatro! the reason why they didn't was they weren't thinking in terms of which are the "best" songs, they were trying to assemble the albums as complete thoughts and moods with unifying themes. That's where it got complicated. That scene with Billie's frustration throwing the songs on a magnet board trying to figure out what to do with them all and what they say kind of shows this.

Now that's the sort of input you would normally get from your producer. Maybe Rob was so happy to be back working with them again that he just wanted to support what they wanted and didn't speak up enough, but it was a case of a novelist (even a great one) needing a good editor.

I like the setlist but i feel things are getting too predictable when you go see them live . KNY played within the first 3 songs for the last 8 years , the speeches during Holday and Letterbomb etc.

They need to change things up soon to stop people getting bored ; not everyone will like, but someone like me would haha

Me personally though would get rid of all the touring members and just have them as a 3 like the good old days's :) .

Three's company ; 6 is a crowd ;)

I disagree.  I feel like 'the big three' really help Green Day knock it out of the park every time.   A rock show needs at least two guitarists to make their songs come to life, and that's what those guys do.

I do agree that they really need to revamp their set lists.  But they've nearly perfected the rock show, so who knows.

Nothing against the guy but Matika is the only one the don't REALLY need, I wouldn't care if they got rid of him. Would look just a bit less crowded.

But then we wouldn't have the Jeff Matika show 🙂

He's the guy behind the guy behind the other guy behind the amp so I don't think he takes up too much room . He isn't strictly needed but I can't see any negative to him being there and all it would do is weaken their live sound by removing some guitar and vocals from it.

I think they definitely need Jason White. Without him, the show would be completely different since BJ could't run around all the time :D. So I wouldn't get rid of the second giutarist.

Won't they need to have two separate set lists for the upcoming tour? For example,Buffalo is a market they are just hitting on the Summer tour but this will be the 2nd time they have hit Chicago and Toronto within the last 6 months. Surely they'll have to play at least 5 or more different songs than the previous show in repeat markets.
