New shows setlist discussion

Yeah, I was pissed when I checked the setlist after the second show and saw it was exactly the same! I can only imagine how you feel. After seeing the setlist grow shorter and shorter this year, I was getting worried. I'm seeing them twice this summer, and one of the shows is a six hour drive away. Needless to say, I'll be a little pissed too if I drive 6 hours only to get the same setlist. So I hope this is a sign that they might change things up, or at least if they keep Novacaine, JAR, and Too Dumb to Die, I'll get to see songs that I haven't seen before. I was displeased that on the 2016 tour, they didn't bring out the sweet deep cuts like Armatage Shanks, JAR, Private Ale, Stuart & the Ave, etc until after the show I went to. I still had a great time at the show, but would've loved to see some of those songs that they played for the rest of the tour.

We probably went to the same show. I saw them in Boston at the House of Blues and it was the same arena-type setlist with the exception of a nifty version of Christie Road. Great show, but also slightly disappointing because my wife and I were expecting a club show, with a setlist to match.

Then I saw them the next weekend at Webster and got it- Stuart, Ale, Nice Guys, Armatage, Brat, the works. It was incredible. I truly do think they underrate how well the rare stuff is received. The place went crazy and it was 100x as memorable as a the previous show- and not just for me either, the crowd reaction and energy were noticeably different.

I texted my wife the NY setlist shortly after and she immediately sent me a middle finger in response, by the way.

BTW, no real complaints here- I'm just glad they're still touring and saw them a few weeks ago in an arena, and will do so again in August. But damn, it's certainly awesome when they change up the setlist!

It seems like they only bust out J.A.R., Armatage Shanks, etc. is when they do small/special shows. (Ex: KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas 2016, Rough Trade)

I saw them in Philly. I thought the setlist was awesome with Welcome to Paradise, the new songs, Christie Road, Scattered, Waiting, and Are We the Waiting. But those Insomniac songs have always been on my dream setlist. Not something I'm too hurt about, but I really would have loved to see them live. Who knows if they'll play them again

They were playing them at the make-up shows they did in Chicago, St. Louis, and wherever else. Detroit maybe?

I really hope you do get something different.
I know the set lists aren't EVERYTHING, but having 2 shows, you would maybe at least expect 1 song different - but of course not, they decided to change 1 song after the double show. Fuck, whenever I think about it I just get pissed again.
I hope they keep Too Dumb To Die in there, for your sake and everyone else's, and I hope they come back here in less than 3-4 years so I can see if they've decided to keep it on there.
Somehow I only think it'll be on there for the Revolution Radio tour (just as Static Age, 21 Guns and 21CB was for that tour), and that just makes me so upset.

That really sucks about the tour songs too, because Static Age, 21 Guns, Murder City and 21CB are just as good as songs like St Jimmy, Are We the Waiting, and Hitchin' a Ride. Wish they'd break those out every once in a while!

Billie should mix up the acoustic encore like he did on the 21CB tour. He'd play all kinds of random stuff, from oldies like Words I Might Have Ate and Pulling Teeth to unreleased songs like Drama Queen (At the time) and Minnesota Girl. If he mixed up the encore, they could keep the rest of the setlist the same but still play something different each night.

The no Insomniac thing is still dumb though. They gotta do one song from it, come on! Alternating Geek Stink Breath and Armatage Shanks would be awesome!

Totally agree with everything you just said.
AI is a fantastic album, but they're holding onto it - like they're worried people are going to forget about it.
There's honestly nothing wrong with shaking up the set list (especially if you have 2 shows in a row in the same city).

Billie could even do a medley of songs in his acoustic encore and that'd make me happy.

Again, I am not complaining (although it may seem like I am). I am simply just expressing my opinion and frustration (especially when our tickets cost $150 per night - they are worth everything, of course). But I would have obviously loved to see at least 1 song change in those 2 nights.

I am totally repeating myself, but.. whatchya gonna do.

Jesus, yes.
I fucking loved Jaded live too.

Don't they usually only change up the setlist more than one or two songs for the last show on a leg anyway? I'm confused about why people are expecting them to play like 4 new songs at shows they're going to if they're not already part of the set on that tour  I saw the exact same set four times in a row from Perth to Melbourne and I honestly have no complaints at all. There is so much more to seeing Green Day than the set they play and I'm just deeply appreciative to see them at all. I would happily fly to three different cities all over again for the same set as I got last week

The difference is that they didn't play 2 shows back to back in Perth and Adelaide. And yes, you are correct - normally they always shake it up on the last date of that particular leg, and I was not expecting otherwise.

Of course there is more to seeing Green Day than just their set (21 times still isn't enough for me), but I think the reason why I am so upset is because I don't think I have ever seen them play the exact same set 2 nights in a row, in the same city, like they did in Melbourne (2009 they did 2 shows back to back in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne - and all those shows were different).

And yes, I am deeply appreciative that they even played 2 shows in Melbourne and I was able to see them given my situation at the moment.

I'm not going to lie, I'm was getting slightly desperate. I could really see them carriying the exact same setlist through until the end, without a single switch up. Well, finally since the beginning of the world tour (2017), they've properly mixed it up! Damn, I'm late to the party, but I've been waiting for this for so long. Wow, I'm really excited for upcoming shows now!

I wasn't that surprised to See JAR, WTP and Pasalacqua in there, given that they have been played before on this tour

Howeer, TDTD and Novacaine was a suprise - both of them hadn't yet been played this tour

I'd heard J.A.R and Pasalacqua in Prague of all places, which was slap bang in the middle of the winter tour. It felt weird not to have songs like that at the end (Manchester, London) but at a show where the crowd wasn't particularly great for deeper cuts like that.

There wasn't even anything out of the ordinary in San Diego.

It's great they're starting to do this now, I just hope it continues ...??

I saw (but can't find now) a couple of people saying they played Novacaine in March/Detroit, that's BS right?

Anyway I get the feeling these shows happen on a whim when Billie/the band are just having a particularly good day, but hope I'm proven wrong in a few weeks.

It's good to see they freshened up the setlist  a bit and it's AWESOME that they played Too Dumb to Die!!! It's brought a new wave of excitement for the Sheffield show in July :D

It's quite ironic how this is called The Revolution Radio World Tour - It's more like a farewell tour only playing the hits .

As a fan paying for a ticket after waiting  4  years for a new album . I would expect more of the news song's .

Their whole energy is great and they still sound the best band in the world for me live . But for me personally i was disappointed :(

But that's what they've always done. Look back on setlist fm at any Green Day tour and you'll see pretty much the same songs played every night and most of them hits/the most well known, the shows were as similar night to night in 1994 as they are now. And with the exception of American Idiot they've always only added a few new songs to the setlist with each album. I could understand being disappointed if they had a history of playing different setlists every night or of playing loads off new albums, but they really don't. I'd enjoy seeing more new songs too but this is just how they've always done it so I don't really get why people suddenly expect different now.

I think it's clearly the Rev Rad tour they're playing 6-7 songs from it a night. That's standard for most bands touring an album. It's the same number with the trilogy tour, 21CB, American Idiot tour. The difference is they're not switching up other songs and that's the issue why it seems so stale.

For another perspective, I saw Jimmy Eat World last night, played 6 songs from Integrity Blues (album tour) and 6 from Bleed American (they're biggest album). That was my 6th time seeing them and I still heard a few old songs that I hadn't heard yet.

If they switched one song a night out, it'd cater to all fans

I'm so glad they've been playing more songs from Revolution Radio!  They still haven't done Outlaws, Bouncing off the Wall or Say Goodbye but hey - 9 out of 12 ain't bad!

Slower songs typically get skipped for pacing, so Outlaws might not get it's moment on the stage.  I'd love to see it but probably won't happen.

But the other two are rockers and would fit anywhere within a great set list.

As for the singles, we know the title track is coming.   I am hopeful that Ordinary World will be the fourth single, followed by a surprise 5th single.   I'll be very sad if they only do three.   Green Day haven't let me down with the amount of singles (other than the trilogy, but even with all the mess we got 6ish out of it)

Dookie - 5

Insomniac - 4

Nimrod - 4

Warning - 4

Idiot - 5

Breakdown - 5

Trilogy - 6

Rev Rad - ?

Anyway.   I'm super excited about Too Dumb to Die being added.  It's the greatest thing ever.  Night.

Are you counting Brain Stew and Jaded as one song? They're 2 separate songs although they lead into each so technically Insomniac had 5 songs released as singles

Depending what you count as a single, Nimrod has 5 official music videos 😂😉 Hitchin a Ride, Nice Guys Finish Last, Redundant, Good Riddance and Last Ride In.

Album sales have slowed right down so it depends if they start picking up again after the 3rd single release as to whether we'll get 5, as long as the album does well, they'll continue promotion with single releases.

Back on topic, I'm stoked that Too Dumb to Die has stayed on the setlist for a second night.  This is the first time in 12 years I've missed them coming to the UK so can't wait for them to come back to Hyde Park and hear the new stuff! Would love to hear Say Goodbye added as well.

Beyond RevRad, the one album I haven't seen represented at all much in the 12 years I've been seeing them is Warning (yeah I've even seen more 1039 and Insomniac than Warning).  Give me some Castaway please 😁

One thing I've learnt is that the show will be amazing regardless.  Even when I've seen them several times on the same leg, I've loved each night.

Speaking of Insomniac, still no songs are played live from that album. Come on, at least play: Brain Stew, Jaded or Geek Stink Breath. Those have always been classics. But we'll see. They might even add a rarely played song from Insomniac at some point, since they played Give Me Novocaine for the first time in 5 years...
