New shows setlist discussion

I know it's been posted before but people really need to keep in mind that the vast majority of the crowd hasn't looked at every setlist from the tour and watched tons of videos before they came. It's completely new to them

I think they probably dig playing a similar set every night. Like it makes them feel more confident, like they are firing on all cylinders when they know that each night, one after the other, they are Babe Ruthing it and knocking every tune clear out of the park. They probably feel like a well oiled rock n roll machine that just kicks fucking ass every night with a perfectly timed and executed performance. God damn I wish I could be that good at something.

Agreed, and I always try to keep this in mind. While at the most recent Brooklyn show I'd wished they'd played more variety, I saw on Facebook that it was the first time for a girl I went to college with, and she said it was the best night of her life. I think there could be more of a happy medium—the acknowledgment that there are tons of attendees who have never seen them before and will never see them again, but also plenty of repeat customers. But if this works for them, that's fine. There's a method to their madness. They're neurotic perfectionists. That's part of their charm.

Jeff just said on Twitter, that he'd really like to play Say Goodbye and Boucing off the Wall (even he gets it wrong, he wrote: walls lol), so maybe, I don't know, if we're really really lucky, they might play those songs sometime before the end of the tour...

Maybe they are intentionally not playing any new RevRad songs to have some live debuts during the second leg of the touring cycle.

Even when they only had 3 albums and only one was well known back on the Dookie tour they still only played the same few songs from that album every night and never played several of them. I hope they play more (especially Say Goodbye) but I won't be surprised if they don't.

Bouncing off the Walls would be killer live. Fits their live delivery (high octane, fist-pumping anthem) absolutely perfectly. Unfortunately, the same was the case with Horseshoes and Handgrenades and they hardly (if ever) played that one on the 21CB tour but hopefully this time they'll recognize it with this song and mix it into the setlist on the second leg if not sooner.

In my opinion, not playing Horseshoes live was a huge missed opportunity and hopefully they don't do the same thing again with Bouncing.

I couldn't agree more!

Well, maybe with the help of social media, signs and banners and other other means, we can get them to play Bouncing off the Walls this time round.

I brought a Troubled Times-sign to one of my concerts and I saw that Billie noticed it. They played the song - unfortunately not at my show, but at the show the day after. Because of me, of course  So, yes, maybe it helps.

In Montreal Billie made a point to say to fans with signs that bring a sign will get you nowhere! Right out of his mouth, I was slightly surprised but he said " sorry, signs will get you nowhere friend!!" That rests the whole make a sign and maybe they'll do it debate for me. Chances are if you do, they may also just play it next show to spite you HAHAH. But he seemed rather ticked at the person flashing the sign in Montreal.

I would love to hear Bouncing Off The Walls.  Glad they are still playing some older songs.  Seeing them in Oakland in August hoping for Welcome to Paradise.

To continue adding to this thread:

At the Pittsburgh show, my friend's friends were going but he missed out on getting the extra ticket they had, so I gave him mine, and bought a new one through ticketmaster. I felt bad that they were sitting alone, but hey, he didn't want me to sell it for a pair that was close together.... (worked out better the way we did it actually).

ANYHOW

So, that was his first Green Day show. He was in awe after the concert. Once we all met up and discussed the show on the way back to their apartment, he said that even though he only knew about 4 songs from the setlist, it was a really fun time and he was able to get into it. Was admiring Billie and the whole band about what great performers they were. His friends (who know more than 4 songs, lol, but not really their newer material) were also delighted by the setlist (they had never seen Green Day live either).
Overall / the main point - people that are losing their 'Green Day Live' virginities are pretty damn happy with what they're getting , and just cause they may not know as many deeper cuts doesn't mean we should forget about them :)

Im just hoping that Private Ale return

No kidding...I saw this in NY at Webster. It was so surprising it honestly took me about 30 seconds into the song to realize what they were playing...never thought I'd see that one.

It had probably been two years since I'd even listened to it, and ever since I saw it live I've had it in the regular rotation. Yet another reason to play the deep cuts- it's a chance for us fans to reunite with some of their classics we may not have listened to in a long time!

They played Razorbacks on one of the 21CB tour dates I attended and I am still stunned/ amazed about it to this day- nearly 7 years later. Just one of these random old songs can transform a show from "simply awesome" to "a lifetime memory"...

Yes, the last few nights, they've kept the setlist identical...

This is the only tour where I can't wait for them to stop playing their new songs. Ever since I've became a fan I wished they would keep playing the new songs on future tours. This is the first time where I can't wait until they never play the new ones again.

And yes, call me stale, but I'd like to hear some of the songs that they played on the other tours, such as:

-Welcome to Paradise

-Brain Stew and Jaded

-Geek Stink Breath

-Nice Guys Finish Last

-Redundant

-Wake me up when September ends

-Give me novacaine

-Homecoming

-Whatshername

-21st. Century Breakdown

As well as of course, less well known/barely played songs...

This x a million please. Sorry not sorry, there's no excuse for not rotating some of those in... they're just as well-known as many of the others they're playing, so they'd still cater to the first-timers. Same with 21 Guns.
