I suppose they think it's the perfect song for dressing up and dancing. But they could try a whole new tradition. Maybe something like wearing those GD masks but swapped so like "Mike" is on drums and "Tre" singing etc. Then just choose any fun song. Bouncing Off The Wall for example????

I don't mind KFAD itself but I don't really like the Shout part and the laying on the floor.  And as much as i love Hey Jude it's not really a good rendition.

Of course this comes from someone who has never actually seen them in concert (Yet!) Only on video.

It is a tired act, but I've seen them over 20 times now so it's not exactly performed with me in mind- it's to entertain the audience and the vast majority of fans in attendance that have seen a handful of shows or less. The band seems to enjoy performing it, and the fans always seem to really get into it. Of course I would love something different but the guys clearly know what they're doing and they don't seem like they're going to stop playing it anytime soon.

If you had asked me back in '99/ '00 (when they really started playing this live a lot- they didn't play it much on the 1st Nimrod tour at all, and when they did they had Gabe McNair and another guy dressed as a bumblebee and banana playing horns on the song) if they'd still be playing this 17 years later (that is, if they were even still around at this point), I would have said that there would be no chance. So who knows how long they'll keep playing it- every tour I think they're on the verge of retiring it, and yet it's probably their most constant setlist choice since that time aside from Basket Case, which is remarkable. There have been tours and shows where they've skipped Good Riddance, Longview, etc. (and they started playing it before AI)....but they never skip KFAD.

It's funny you say that according to setlist.fm in the next couple weeks it'll become there 5th most played song ever 😳

I first saw the guys back in 2010 in Hartford and I think I got spoiled for my first show because every time I look back at that setlist and see what was played I get blown away every time. I was extremely fortunate to see them twice in one week during the 99 Revolutions tour in Rochester and Uncasville and the only real shocker for me was Coming Clean in Uncasville. I really look forward to seeing old songs that I haven't heard live before and hopefully they'll still play Waiting on Friday since the only Warning song I've ever heard live is Minority and that's been replaced with Forever Now (which I'm totally fine with).

Holy crap, what a setlist.

Also, Minority is still in the setlist-they've just moved it to the middle of the set. If anything, it definitely works better that way.

After seeing the show a couple nights ago I have to say: KFAD/Shout has got to go  It's just stale to me at this point. They can/should do the silly stuff during a different song. All the new songs sounded amazing. I loved the effects they had during Still Breathing and Forever Now.

To be honest as of late I have only watched your concert on periscope & I sat through KFAD because everyone said it was better/fresher/more condensed.  I don't know if it was just your night but the song was so bloody long & drawn out.

I can't find the instagram (maybe it was one of the onse BJ deleted with his 666) but I thought one of the captions said "out with the old in with the new".  I really thought they were going to do a complete overhaul of the setlist.

Yeah I saw them 3 times on that tour and they added in Shot Down In Flames and Dog Eat Dog for the 2nd leg of the tour. Was pretty dope! That was a killer AC/DC tour!

I will admit that the covers they do during Shout could do with being switched up. But I still love it and want them to keep it forever

I enjoy king for a day just Shout is meh or Shout without the covers. Or Shout with a medley of Trilogy

"a little bit softer now.... oh baby baby is fuck time"

Side note; I asked Jeff if he could take over the setlist what the first song he would add and his response would be "whatsername"

I wonder whether this has ever been brought up with the band cause that song literally would be the best ending to the show ever.

Would be nice to get a medley of originals and not covers. They did something like that in 2010, with Disappearing Boy and stuff. Surprised he doesn't get more sick of doing this every single show but, it is good to have things down like butter. Would be nice though, to change up the original medley night to night as well, keeping it rather random. They do that and add one Insomniac track for every show and that would be enough.

Wow, good call. Seems about right since they have been playing it religiously since pre-AI. The song has way more "live" longevity than I would have ever thought....

I'm really hoping we can hear more from the trilogy other than the partial Amy and I hate that Christie Road appears to be taken off the setlist since I've been dying to hear that song live. I just want more old stuff. I don't want to sound ungrateful but it'd be nice to see more songs from 39/smooth, Kerplunk, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning as well.

Yes! I remember that! I was at the Mohegan (Uncasville) show too and Coming Clean was a highlight. For a real setlist, check out what we saw at Webster this year, or even the second leg of the 21CB tour. That's what we're all hoping for, right? Hopefully we get it on the second leg of this tour.

If they don't switch it up for New York tonight there is no chance of seeing anything different for a while

During 21stCb Tour 2010, in Latin America leg, the final encore was Whatsername, Wake me up when september ends (half acoustic/half full band) and Good Riddance. I couldn't stop crying :cry:

Now that I've been to my show this tour:

You're not allowed to complain about the setlist unless you've been to a show. This is basically a perfect Green Day setlist.

A setlist that opens with Know Your Enemy is hardly perfect... :P

I honestly don't mind king for a day at all, maybe because Ive only ever been to two shows but still. I do wish they played little covers from whatever country/state they're in at the time like they used to. Always thought it was a fun little nod!

This was the first time I saw them, although it's not filled with deep cuts, it was certainly enough to keep 15 year old me buzzing for the next couple of weeks anyway.

Looking at current sets i do wish they'd swap KYE with Bang Bang, just for the principle of it  maybe add in brain stew again and the odd song from 1039 and I would be pretty happy tbh.

This X's a million. I'd rather they open with 99 Revolutions or Bang Bang.

I wish American Eulogy or 21st Century Breakdown would make the set again. Eulogy live was amazing.

The current setlist isn't what I'd pick by any means, but tbh I haven't even thought about it since actually seeing them. I've been lucky enough to see a few amazing setlists but some of the best shows have still been the ones with regular setlists. There's so much more to them than what they play. Even Youngblood is tolerable live

You'd think as a band who takes pride in their work, they'd want to experiment with different material live.

There's different ways of taking pride in work. Maybe they take pride in putting together a show/setlist that they feel is as entertaining as can be.

When I think back to the Green Day shows I've been to and the best things about them what songs they played barely even comes into it. If you ask me if I've seen a particular song live or not I usually have to check setlist fm because I don't remember. I've already said it but when I read this thread I'm compelled to say again that the setlist really isn't the be all and end all. Most of their songs are great live and they play them in an order/variety that makes a fun and entertaining show, so their shows are always good.
