New shows setlist discussion

Even though the setlist paled into insignificance once the show started on Wednesday, looking at it afterwards they did actually play 9 songs I'd never seen live before (the new ones plus Knowledge, Christie Road and Scattered). So much for it being "stale" or whatever else it's been called. And it still felt like they played all the staples. Perfect!

I would absolutely love to see 21st Century Breakdown songs be added to the setlist again. Those songs are incredible live!

I'd really like to hear East Jesus Nowhere, 21 guns (maybe a shortened version) and Gloria Little Girl.

Haha, you just can't get over it. I have to say, it's not one of my favourites, but at least it's an excuse for:

-bringing out that awesome Green Day sign in the background

-performing all those fun covers

-Tre and Billie to swap places (Billie on the drums, Tre singing and dancing the way he does)

I'd love to see American Eulogy make an appearance on the tour. I love the videos from the 21CB tour where Billie and Mike harmonise together and Billie ends the song singing the opening of Letterbomb. That would be fabulous to see!

I still think 21st century breakdown was one of the best openers of all time, they definitely gotta bring that song back.

I think it will be done at some point randomly. You will not know and it will be unexpected.

I'd love to hear a Nice Guys Finish Last/Scattered/Nuclear Family medley. Same tonality, same BPM and just fucking great all in a row.

21CB is the first song I ever saw them play live, and it was incredible. I'm sad it's been dropped! They should swap KYE for it.

I'm interested to know the history of Armatage Shanks - at my first gig in Belfast Billie Joe played half of it by himself, and apparently before that it hadn't been performed since 2000. And then they played it in full at Leeds :D but not sure if they played it in between those two shows.

I just read from an old Spin from 95 (thank you Instagram ) that he wrote it before the release of Dookie about his break up with Amanda! Never knew that before! Interesting factoid.

"When I wrote that song", says Armstrong, "It was right before Dookie came out and I was really at odds with myself. I was like man do I really want to do this? A lot of time I was thinking about suicide, how it's so easy to kill yourself, but it's so hard to stay alive. I was in a break-up with my then girlfriend, a total, raving punk rocker who didn't approve of me being on a major label. She moved down to Ecuador saying she couldn't live in a world with McDonald's and such. It was fucking me up pretty bad."

That's the history of the song but not what you were looking for

Where do you think they will drop an occasional All By Myself/Dominated Love Slave? Or they won't?

Dominated Love Slave was a semi regular on the 21st CB tour and they still pulled it out occasionally on the trilogy tour, so even though they haven't done it yet there's always the chance they'll add it later if they want to change the setlist up or just do it at a random show. All By Myself is rarer but they did play it once each in 2010, 2012 and 2013 so they could do it again if you were really lucky. It still bothers me slightly that they never played it at the "all Dookie" shows, like come on you forgot the last song :P

Still, you do currently get to see Tre sing a bit of Shout and do some fabulous high kicks :D

BOBD is the best song I have EVER had the pleasure to witness live.

And can I add that I've seen it a few times and that was definitely my favourite performance of it! Billie sang it so passionately, and you could see how much he was loving the part where the crowd was doing the singing, walking out on to the catwalk with everyone singing around him. It was a really special atmosphere.

 that was an interesting read regardless, thanks! Poor Billie.

Might go have a hunt on YT to see if there are any Armatage Shanks performances between 2009 and 2017

I believe they played it in Montreal in 2009 or 2010. They also played it a most of the theater shows this last fall

Here's some they haven't done: Jinx, Haushinka, Walking Alone, Reject, Panic Song, Tight Wad Hill, No Pride, Hold On, No One Knows, Jackass, Deadbeat Holiday, All The Time, Misery, Warning I'm guessing, Bab's Uvula Who?, Uptight I think. Only want to hear old shit pulled out if something that hasn't been done is being pulled out so I'm just naming pre AI tracks here.

Actually forget ''21st Century Breakdown'' (though it's a great song and opener and I'd give anything to see them play it live again, though the chances of that are almost zero ) and ''Somewhere Now'' as openers, I want to hear ''Panic Song'' as an opener, just imagine how great that would be!

They played it at Webster in NY- however, I just searched YouTube and there are tons of videos of Basket Case and Longview and very few of some of the gems they played that night (Armatage, Stuart, 409, Nice Guys, Private Ale, Brat). Of course...

That's how YouTube always works haha. On the bright side maybe that means more people were enjoying the show rather than watching through their phones the entire time
