New shows setlist discussion

No Troubled Times tonight. It does not seem like the type of song they are going to do every night. It's not quite as fun to play as Bang Bang or RevRad. I hope they do Somewhere Now again, and it should be before Forever Now. Fuck it, they need ONE INSOMNIAC SONG IN THIS SETLIST. Wouldn't that be perfect?

Jus take 2 measly minutes and alternate Geek Stink Breath and Armatage Shanks. Practically effortless. But would bring so much happiness!

I haven't seen them play 21 Guns and thought they might have chucked it in as it's a fan favourite!

I like the song but it seems to drag live

It's the way they play it, they remove the "live and let die" part and repeat the chorus endlessly instead. I think 21 Guns and BOBD are very similar live experiences so there's not much reason to play both, some songs have to go to make room for new ones and unsurprisingly it was the non-American Idiot one that got the chop :P. I'm glad in this case though, much prefer BOBD.

GOOD. Maybe they read this. Look at tonight's set, quite great and I would be completely happy seeing it. Christie Road, Armatage Shanks, Waiting, Scattered and Burnout all there, 30 songs is the way to go. They should keep it like this. That's all I wanted, one little Insomniac tune...perfect!!

I've seen 21 Guns live only once, but I liked it way better than BOBD. Billie's voice is beautiful in the chorus and I didn't mind that they repeated it a lot, I melted. So I'd love to see it back in the setlist some day, the album and the song deserve it so much. But I'm not complaining, as long as they keep playing Still Breathing from now on till eternity. That song can never leave their setlist, never ever. I hope they read this :P

Troubled Times is a boring song. Why the hell would you play it over Bouncing off the Walls?

I tend to think they chose Troubled Times because it's pretty politically relevant right now and we know our boys are very vocal when it comes to politics.

Can't wait to see what surprises (if any), they will bring out for the London show.

Not sure why they dropped Troubled Times-quite relevant right now-but it's great to see Armatage Shanks on the setlist. I believe it was on the setlist in Turino but wasn't played,  right? Funny since it didn't appear to be on the printed setlist last night.

I hope the magical atmosphere and the emotional "importance" of the song are enough to keep this song on the setlist for the rest of our life. Same for Forever Now, as I said previously somewhere on GDC, my favorite GD live song.

You have a good point. I think Troubled Times can be relevant at almost point in history though. I just feel it's a low energy song and if I was them I wouldn't have chosen that one in particular to play, but Billie is better at this than I am so I guess I shouldn't wonder.

This is strange. I feel exactly the opposite. :)

Low tempo and highly distorted guitars make the song even more powerful than GD fastest songs.

In the beginning, everything seems so quiet, but just wait for the "so don't look twice, we live in troubled times" part and you can feel the explosion. Amazing live. :runaround:

The set they played in Leeds was pretty tight IMO. I would maybe switch out Know Your Enemy for Welcome To Paradise, but other than that I think thats a good blend of hits and fan faves.

I'm surprised that Welcome to Paradise isn't on the setlist and that songs like Troubled Times and Say Goodbye are getting zero exposure atm, but I know when I see them, my 'ideal setlist' will be lodged somewhere in the back of my head because they could just stand there for two and a half hours doing nothing and I'd be all over it

If I could see a set like tonight or last night, and see Armatage Shanks live with everything else. I'll die happy! And they DID do a snippet of Nuclear Family tonight and last night! Burnout and Armatage Shanks give Tre that spotlight, love those fills!!

I watched a recording of Scattered from Leeds and it just sounded like a vaguely similar, half-improvised solo to me. But I would love to be wrong!

Anyway I like that they seem to slowly be mixing it up a bit, even if it's just the odd surprise like Amy and Armatage, it brings me some hope for the rest of the tour (especially my next show in June). Haven't followed this thread and I know it was said that the guys still have an awkward relationship with the Trilogy songs, they still don't seem all that hesitant. It could be just as much to do with wanting to keep the energy of the set up, I mean Billie introduces Nimrod songs as if they're rarities. I just hope crowds who do get those surprises really cheer them on :D

Also, for what it's worth Billie sounded pretty positive here. "There's so many great songs on those albums. I just think for some people it was too much to digest all at once. You think?! [Big laugh] I think that there's some really good songs on there. If I was gonna do it over again I'd probably do it. ... The intention was to make it more raw and off the cuff and the opposite happened, but I do like the songs. I think it was a fun record to make."

Some people don't like the new album, but "Bang Bang" and "Still Breathing" really should become staples as the years go by.

What the hell is going on on setlist.fm? Apparently, Green Day are playing at O2 Arena and the O2 Avenue (whatever that place is, never heard of it before) tomorrow?! Somebody's taking the piss here!

I think someone's got confused there. The Avenue is the street of shops inside the O2, the O2 Arena itself is right next to that.

I would absolutely love to see 21st Century Breakdown songs be added to the setlist again. Those songs are incredible live!
