Not really. Basket case is palm muted which is hard. Minority consist of 3-4 chords. Basket case 4-5. Minority is way easier

Disagree 100%.  Yes Basket Case has palm muting, but Minority has picking and open chords and power chords.  Basket case is just power chords.

I truly miss when Green Day would take requests during at least part of the show, and the show wasn't as formulaic. While they are one of the very best live bands on the planet-I miss the thril of truly not knowing what what was next and I feel that was an energy they would feed off.

When was that though? There might have been individual shows/smaller shows/parts of some tours where they've taken requests or mixed up the setlist but that's never been a standard thing. If you pick a tour from Dookie onwards (often before that as well but especially after they started playing big venues) and compare the setlists they're always very similar and formulaic. I guess maybe now with the internet it's easier to be aware of setlists not changing, and I would agree that shows were more unpredictable in terms of random antics happening, but the songs themselves staying the same from show to show isn't new.

Uhm open chords are what beginners usually start from. C, g and f are hard? Hell no. Palm muting is way harder. Dont confuse opinion with facts.

Yes beginners do start with open chords, but power chords are alot easier than open chords.  And if you actually go back, and read what I said I didn't say Minority was hard, just hard in a relative sense.  I find it much easier to play a power chord than to switch between picking, open chords and power chords.  FACT: It is alot easier to do the same thing over and over again than it is to switch between different things.  And just because YOU find palm muting hard doesn't mean everyone does.  Plus, the entire song is not palm muted, only portions of it.  There are portions that are just straight power chords (as is Minority).

We can agree to disagree.  I find Minority much harder because I find it more difficult to switch between different types of playing than playing the same power chords over and over again.

I feel like the response is pretty irrelevant to be honest. Maintaining energy for 2.5hours when you can switch Christie Road, 2000 LYA and Scattered up easily each night isn't going to effect energy

Maybe it isn't that easy.  Unless you are out there doing it with them you really don't know.

Because it's difficult to switch out 2000LYA with Pasalacqua/ Paper Lanterns/ Razorbacks/ Brat/ Holden Caulfield/ Coming Clean// At The Library/ Armatage Shanks/ Only of you/ disappearing boy/ Stuart and the Ave/ one of my lies/ judges daughter/ chump.......

Each of those songs were played relatively recently and have the same setup.... it's many things but difficult isn't one of them.

He was being sarcastic and obviously that guy has NO say on what they play

It's tough playing that long each show, you would think Billie and Mike would want to change up songs more often, and even sometimes not do mandatory songs like Boulevard. Sounds crazy but, they've dropped Minority and When I Come Around before.

No Christie Road tonight, super lame track drop.

Maintaining energy for 2.5 hours live being tough has absolutely nothing to do with them playing essentially the same setlist for years. It's tough for any band but they don't play Know Your Enemy every night as a result!

Unless you are in that stage with them and at practice with them you have no idea what it is,like to change up songs.  If you don't like the setlist don't go

I'm talking about even on the setlists they have "audible" just before Christie Road but aren't playing one. It's flat out playing it safe and comfortable knowing they'll get a great response each song but without taking a risk of what else will go down great.

Ive been to enough Green Day shows over the last 12 years to see them change things up that I think it's a fair discussion to talk about how they aren't changing things up anymore.

Yeah like, they've carefully crafted this show over the years with songs chosen to keep the flow just right and keep the crowd's attention and the energy levels high with all kinds of stuff other than just playing the songs built into it. Some bands just get up and play through songs so it's easy to play them in a different order or play different ones but a Green Day show is so much more than that. They give you the best live experience ever so even if I might like to hear one song or another or think some things could be done differently sometimes I can pretty much trust that they know what they're doing!

They played Troubled Times tonight and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt it's because I tweeted Matika and told him to

Yeah, live debut in Amsterdam! Who knows if it will stick around or not, we'll have to wait and see. No Christie Road again, this makes me quite sad. It's Kerplunk!'s 25th anniversary, the two tracks were good! Who Wrote Holden Caulfield or Private Ale would be just as good though!

Sorry to disappoint you, but I think it was because of my Troubled-Times-sign at the Cologne show :ga: I'm sure their conversation before the Amsterdam gig went like this:

Billie: Hey guys, remember that pretty girl yesterday in Cologne in the second row with that Troubled Times-sign?
Mike&Tré: Hell, yeah!
Billie: Let's play that shit tonight, all right?
Mike&Tré: All right!

I'm absolutely sure that's what it was. I can live with this theory
