New shows setlist discussion

Is it too much to ask for 21cbd to be the opener again? I understand that it was only used as an opener during that tour period but I absolutely think it's a great opener.

Don't know why people are complaining about te Trilogy being excluded, that whole era was a flop.

The fact that only one 21CB song is only being played is more worrying.

Yeah, they could open the encore with it or alternate it with Somewhere Now.

Yeah, that was a hell of an opener during the 21CB tour. But I'm hoping for Somewhere Now for the arena shows though, it will make me cry right at the beginning but that's okay

I'm okay with know your enemy being in the set but it seems so weird being the opener, bang bangs much better

At least it is over with as soon as possible.

Why is KYE on there over 21 guns when the latter was a much bigger hit? Then again, 21 Guns is a bigger hit than like 85% of the rest of the set list anyway (just like WMUWSE..) Green Day logic.

I feel like Too Dumb to Die could work as an opener if they do it right. All the stage lights could be off while the weird lo-fi intro is playing, and the band could walk onstage unseen at that point. Then after the intro ends Tre counts them in, and the song kicks off as the lights all come on. Know Your Enemy needs to be retired from the setlist I think.

I guess they're still in the process of rehearsing the new songs, but I'd like to hear Outlaws and Too Dumb to Die sometime soon.

I'm surprised KYE is the 1st song, and for the love of god they need to replace KFAD with some rare songs.

Bang Bang was an amazing opener. I have no idea why they fucked that up. It's not like people haven't been into it/singing along. The only justification I can think is that usually for the first song, the fans aren't paying too much attention to what's being played because they're in a state of shock about the band being right in front of them. By the time the second or third song rolls around you can actually begin processing what's going on (at least that's how it is for me, anyway).

It wasn't a happy time for them and they need some time to move on from that era in their lives before they can revisit the music associated with it. And I don't think any of us should criticize them for that.

Thanks for sharing... where is this from? I'd like to see the whole post/article. Seems very interesting.

I think it's hard for the band themselves to make setlist these days. They have to play the hits, thats just how it is, not everyone going is as big a fan as us who frequent this board. In addition, lets not gorget that they have like 150+ songs, the majority of which are great live songs. You can't satisfy everyone.

164 album songs.

At least 19 non album studio songs.  (There's a lot more than that)

43 songs from compilation albums.

At least 122 live covers

At least 56 live versions of songs (There's a lot more than that)

At least 193 side-project / other band songs

That's at least 597 songs Green Day have.   But the number is WAAAY higher.  They always record tons more for albums.

My personal estimate of how many Green Day songs have is:

1288 songs.

In short:

Yeah, I think they have a tough job at picking out what to play.

I really wish there will be that random All By Myself/Dominated Love Slave appearance during one of the shows.

Recent shows have improved, but they are repeating formulas again. Still, they are repeating songs they haven't played in long time, so it's ok

I hate that they open with KYE. Bang Bang was a much better opening song. All KYE does is gives Billie license for 3 million hey ohs and hey chants.

They aren't playing the hits though

WMUWSE and 21 Guns are easily in their top 5 most iconic and both have been cut.

They got too many, [just look at this setlist,](http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/green-day/2016/hollywood-palladium-hollywood-ca-bfd5d1e.html) a large portion of it are singles, aside from a couple of little little blocks shuffled in.

I know, what I'm saying is that those two songs were the wrong ones to be cut for the reason I have already stated. A lot of those songs on that set list were not even hits, much more disposable.
