New shows setlist discussion

I think green day always make the setlist thinking that the public will see them for the first time, I only went to one concert of they, but I think they should completely change the structure of the setlist. (Not all the songs, just the order)

(and have a screen behind the stage or something, the scenery is very poor.)

I want this.

I'd love them to sneak in Paper Lanterns again, was the song that got me into the band.

... and this. Plus add a couple other old-but-not-so-rare songs like Holden Caulfield or Pasalacqua, and maybe Stay the Night, Missing You or Rusty James to represent the trilogy era and I'd probably die of happiness. But mainly I just want Insomniac back.

I wonder now if that says Say Goodbye.

I feel like it has to (especially since, as I mentioned previously, I heard the backdrop during their Columbus sound check). And that's probably Murder City above it and Oh Love on the left page.

I really think these club shows are just warm ups and for the arena tour they'll switch it up (which is kind of opposite of what would be ideal for the fans who go to those shows, ha, but whatever, since when has Green Day made sense).

Same, and Scattered in it's entirety, PLEASE.

I hope to see some more Nimrod being played live for their 20th anniversary. I'd love to listen to Worry Rock, Jinx, or Reject being played. Westbound Sign would also be so cool!

The whole album! Okay that's being greedy, but I'm sure many would agree with me. It's my fave GD album, always.

If they fit all of Dookie into Reading 2013 and STILL played another hour and a half worth of music, I know with Nimrod they could fit the whole thing.

Dang it!  I was over at setlist.fm refreshing the Howard Stern set list waiting for something else to come up.     DANG DANG! Not a concert.

Good call. I actually saw Reject during the Nimrod tour- I've seen them many times, and they've never played Worry, Jinx, or my white whale Westbound during any of the dates. My longest "gotta have it" drought had been previously Christie, but they played it in Toronto in '13 and then again Saturday, so I've now seen it two straight shows! It gives me hope that one day I'll see Westbound, or at least Stuart/ Paper Lanterns/ Deadbeat, which are my other wishful thinking goals.

Part of the reason why I booked the Webster show was to see a ton of old rarities (like Irving or Bowery), but it doesn't look like it'll happen. I'll frankly be completely shocked if they deviate from the club setlist on Saturday. It'll still be awesome, but before the tour started I had circled Webster on the calendar as a "mandatory must attend/ once in a lifetime" show. Now it's merely "incredibly small venue so will be ridiculous" caliber.

Also, I had been scheduled to attend a soundcheck and meet them prior to the whole illness debacle (long story short, our host stayed back in CA with this flu they had and they needed to cancel. We're hoping it's rescheduled for the arena tour). One of my pre-planned questions for Billie was about why they stick to a scripted setlist such as this (don't worry, I was going to ask in a nice way). One of my other questions was about the fan playing of guitar on Knowledge when they used to do this- I wanted to ask him about my secret plan at the time of being called onstage, given the guitar, and immediately ripping into Westbound and whether they'd continue with it or simply kick me off immediately. I still plan to ask this, I think he'll get a kick out of the question and I'm genuinely curious to know what they would have done. For the record, as you can tell, I was never called to come up on stage and play. Dammit.

Here's a quote from an article on daily telegraph, I thought it'd fit into the setlist discussion here. Thanks @stories and songs for sharing the link to the interview in the Random GD News thread.

"The band have commenced the world tour for Revolution Radio — Armstrong said working out a setlist was a tough call. 'You have to consider eras. There’ll be people stoked to hear their favourite song and there’ll always be people who don’t hear their favourite song. Sorry. We have about 300 songs to go through now. I think a little nostalgia is healthy for the soul, especially if it’s coming from a place of gratitude. I don’t think I could be that guy who hangs his hat on it, ‘OK, let’s go through the motions and play Basket Case for the 2000th time’'."

They are just messing with us.  We're about to hear the same set list we've heard for the past 12 years, haha!

You should check out all the On The Road forum.  When there's a show we all  hang out in that day's concert thread.

Ok but seriously why the eff aren't they playing any songs off the trilogy this tour???????

Jeezus eff cripes! Like barely one. Those records were the real deal.

I hope requests are made. It would be really sad if all that work & awesomeness of those records were forgotten. So many cool foxboro hot tubby like songs & old skool awesomeness on those records. And I like thr Devil's Kind and Body Bag a lot too (but those aren't GD songs ya I know but I wish they were).

Real answer? :

It wasn't a happy time for them and they need some time to move on from that era in their lives before they can revisit the music associated with it. And I don't think any of us should criticize them for that.
