03 - Revolution Radio

On first listen...eh, it's good enough, but for me it couldn't hold a candle to Bang Bang.

I think "legalize truth" is a brilliant line. Very simple, but brilliant.

To be honest I thought that was massively cliché and predictable, it's the kind of thing basically every conspiracy theorist ever shouts.

This is WAY better than Bang Bang! That song has many things that feel unnecessary to me and are kinda forced all together, but this one feels smooth from start to finish.
I'm not fan of their "overwhelming production", mainly the vocals. He's vocals on the latest records feel like they used tons of autotune (wheter it's true or not). It worked for American Idiot and 21stCBD for their purpose, but it doesn't work for the trilogy and won't work for this one. I judge the songs by themselves because I know Green Day will kick ass live. That's just how Green Day rolls, they always sound better live.

It's not auto tune as its not a robotic effect and not fixing pitch mistakes it's a filter believe it's a reverb filter if I'm not mistaken

Yeah, I'm not a fan of how the vocals are produced either. I think there was a lot less autotune on AI and 21st CB, Billie's voice sounded more natural back then. They were overdoing the autotune (or whatever the correct term is, but I guess everyone knows what I mean) on the trilogy already and unfortunately, these two new songs are very similar to the trilogy in that respect. However, the songs themselves are very good and as you said, they'll be awesome live, so I can live with it.

I'm listening to it again, and...yeah, it sounds like the kind of thing we'd get if they tried to do a political song on the Trilogy. Decent, but the lyrics are trying too hard and it all just sounds a bit tame, especially after Bang Bang.

Better than Bang Bang, but still full of vapid politikal platitudes and generally lacking nous or charisma. My enthusiasm for the new album is dwindling.

i still hear dead guitars . first cut is the deepest :)

listening to the song on repeat. when i ignore the lyrics ,it's amazing.  It's not that the lyrics are bad it's just they are not the best they can do. well...the song is good .

I love Mike's little bass lick before the guitar solo, hoping for some tasty bass lines on this album, encouraging signs so far!

Didn't even know that they released this song until I looked at my phone and I tunes had automatically downloaded it for me. Revolution Radio is verry punk pop, sounds like it could be on American  Idiot. The guitar solo reminds me of American Idiot. After 2 singles that are kik ass, I have high hopes that this abum will be good. Maybe even be there second comeback album

The lyrics lack some content for being "revolutionary", especially if you compare them to American Idiot. I get the feeling but it's just not enough.

If this gets them to come to Argentina I'll be pleased anyway

I am seriously not getting how people don't like these lyrics.  I think they are some of the best Billie has done.  I don't think this song is supposed to be like AI, it isn't a rallying cry.  But, much like Bang Bang, it is written to bring attention to a serious situation.

Really, some of the best? I think this song is decent but nowhere near anything on AI or 21CB, it sounds like it's trying to bring attention to a situation but isn't particularly sure what situation that is or why, it just wants to be a political punk song without any real power to it, it's trying to hard and just kinda contrived. Not bad, but I'd have made this the B-side to Bang Bang rather than an album track, especially not the title track.

It's not explicit enough. It's just "let's get mad" "it's cool to use the word revolution". The violence is very important but if it has more content, it's my opinion of course, it has more impact.

I just don't think they seem mad/sad/violent enough. I need more deep feelings! haha

After listening this song countless times, I have come to the decision that this is way better than Bang Bang.

This is exactly our actual situation. There's chaos everywhere, but does someone know the cause?
That's why I think that these lyrics are perfect for our historical moment.

The guitar riff and guitar sound after Billie says "legalise the truth" reminds me of "burn burn" by "lost prophets" for some reason.

Which is something I don't want to hear considering how that band ended up.

WOW!!  IT'S HAPPENING!   Somewhere Now just got leaked!!!

Jk...  wanted to cause heart attacks.   The louder I play Revolution Radio on my speakers makes me realize this song is mind blowing!  I have a hunch this album will be epic in the way that some of my friends describe me and my personality.    So play the song LOUD!!!  Only way to listen to it AND the album.

Fuck off amigo.

I have to totally disagree.  I think it perfectly captures the Black Lives Matter movement.  That is a very serious subject here and like Bang Bang, I think he set teh tone of waht is going on.

Of course he is only saying "let's get mad", which is also what he said in American Idiot.  He can't resolve the issue that Black Lives Matter was formed for, but he can bring attention to it.  That is the exact purpose of the song.  If he can bring attention to issues, more people will get concerned with it and maybe it can change.

Because they're just plain corny and don't offer any new or unique perspectives.

They don't really have anything specific to say though, there's all this talk of standing up and revolution but it doesn't seem to have any real drive to it, any true passion. The world is fucked in general chaos, but you can't feel that lyrically, there's no real sense of the desperate anger you'd expect from a revolution in the midst of chaos. It's a song for revolution, but it's a tame and watered-down revolution.

I think it says something that I didn't even realise it was about BLM until this post, the lyrics are such generic revolution fare I couldn't tell.

Again, I totally disagree.  What were you really expecting him to do, tell people to march in the streets, go on hunger strikes etc., the first step to stopping something is understanding it.  Then he is asking people to get concerned about it.    It is the same thing he did in AI, he tried to get people concerned.  If anything AI is less explicit, AI is just a rallying cry about the general state of the country.  Revolution Radio is bringing attention to BLM and again, the shit we see on the news every day.
