03 - Revolution Radio

Second favourite son

Recommended Posts

Bang Bang is still my favorite of the two, but Revolution Radio sounds really good. If these two tracks are an accurate indicator for what the album sounds like, then I'm stoked.

Loved Revolution Radio! It's like 21 CB and Pinhead Gunpowder had a beautiful love child. I haven't scoped through this whole thread but I think the lyric is "Cherry Bombs and gasoline, debutants and surgery..", although I thought it was air guitars for a couple listenings.

thanks its kind of hard but kind of tired of hearing so many songs before the albums I have another album on preorder that comes out next week and from the pre order in june til now they've released 5 of the 11 songs so I've already heard half the album

Yeah I don't want to hear half the album in advance either. But just the lead single and what is probably the second single is OK for me, still another 10.

Same.  I'm not listening to any other songs until the album comes out.

Everything on here is actually pretty good except for that chorus. Reminds me of that awful 'No Future' chorus on Blink's new LP.

With you on "No Future", worst song on the record, but I don't thin kit's similar to RevRad. The only thing I'm not fussed on is the call and response on "the truth" part, it sounds a bit rushed but I'm liking it more the I listen to it.

Being a black man I can totally relate to this song and what's been going.  Will it be my favorite on the album we shall see.  I'm really gunning for somewhere now as my favorite song though.

"In the headline, my love's bulletproof". What's the meaning there?

i really haven't taken any time to dissect the lyrics to this but it's my understanding that this song is about the black lives matter protests. the "say their names" thing has been a big part of the BLM movement so i kind of took that line as if people do say their names and put them in the headlines, they aren't forgotten, ie bulletproof. i'm not sure if i'm really explaining this well but that's my take on it.

Why y'all have to nitpick every single lyric in the song.

We're GDC. What else can we do until we get another video?

I get what you are saying.  I think.  It is like the opposite of mass shooters, the news people have stopped saying there names, s othey won't be remembered.  It is trying to take their notoriety away.  This is saying their names so they will be remembered so that everyone can see who the victims were.

yes, that's what i was trying to say! my impression of that line is that billie was (metaphorically) talking about the importance of knowing who the victims were.

My initial interpretation is that the effort put on to support and rally around the black victims in itself cannot be killed, aka bulletproof. Or like...his love and passion for the issue can't be destroyed.

Not that they're gonna leak another song in 2 weeks, but I vow not to listen.l to another one until after the show. I would probably like them better hearing it live first anyway.

Why have there been no 'promoting' before the release of this single?
Kinda thought they would try to push it out the majority and with a release date since it's the album title track

Listening to the song for the second time. Not so sure how I feel about it just yet. I need to sleep on it and listen to it tomorrow many more times.

i think it's way to basic in melody. it's so unsurprising and sounds like you've heard it 1000 times before. the lyrics are surface level and seem simplifying and cliche. a song for 14 year olds in melody and lyrics, and on top of that it sounds like a b-side.

the only good things about this song: the intro and the guitar sound of the solo.

bang bang: 9/10

revolution radio: 3/10.

way less hopeful for the album now after hearing that song. 99 revolutions, a comparable song in lyrics and tempo, was even exciting compared to this. the melody is just so fucking plain, borrowed in the verses from extraordinary girl. just put this song on any existing green day album and it would be one of the weakest. no edge or anything interesting at all. this really sounds like a childrens song, especially if you listen to songs like no pride or stuck with me beforehand.

if i had to  put my finger down on what is essentialy wrong with it: green day always sounded different from the other boring pop punk marketing ploys you hear. this would fit right into a playlist of blink182, good charlotte, simple plan, all time low,  5sos and that other plastic bullshit. so for those enjoying those bands: you will love this song.
