DeJennsitized
I didn't mean to give the impression it was mocking the shooter - or any aspect of the situation. I'm just not particularly eloquent It could have been a misunderstanding of what I meant by satire. it's a very multi-layered song - there is a mocking of the media aspect going on too and it's amazing how he portrayed that whilst staying in the shooter POV. i know what the daddy/mommy line references. But that doesn't change how I think about it. It's still a sarcastic way for the shooter to think of himself. Satire isn't strictly humour based. It's a bit like sarcasm. I hear a lot of that in the lyrics and didn't actually think that was up for debate. But hey, I guess anything is
unextraordinarygirl
Bang Bang is number 1 on the Billboard chart! That's excellent to hear!
Sixtrix
Why can't the shooter say "daddy's little psycho?" If he, for instance, got more support from his mother and his dad actually left because he couldn't handle his son's issues then I think this could be some sort of self-reflection, but in the way how his dad and his mom sees him. He doesn't think that of himself.

He doesn't think that of himself. It's the way it's put. It is from the shooter's point of view but he wouldn't be using cheeky, sarcastic phrases like "daddy's little psycho" or "give me death or give me head" or "I wanna start a rager!" to describe his motives, he'd make his justifications and describe himself with much more serious/emotional words. I think Billie expresses the shooter's motives through these sarcastic phrases in a way that exposes how irrational they are (without having to actually say it) while at the same time satirizing the way the media makes criminals famous. I don't think that takes away from the seriousness of the subject or the darkness of the song though, on the contrary these snappy phrases contrasted with the extremely dark subject matter only further highlight how dark it is. I agree that line is self reflection, but the way it's phrased adds another layer to it.
Chin for a Day
That would be true if he was using satire.
Stefano Bras
I stopped listening to Bang Bang like for a week or two and just now I've been relistening the song and wow, it is amazing. After some live performances I can totally see this song being a Green Day classic.

It can most definitely be satirical and in the first-person On 8/31/2016 at 1:08 PM, JJ1964 said: I have re-read the lyrics many times. I will agree that that line is not first person, but again, it doesn't mean it is satirical. I do believe saying it is satirical minimizes the effect of the song. I understand what you are trying to say, but I think you are confusing satire with rhetoric. Satire is often a form of rhetoric and that only mitigates the impact if you think it does, I personally don't. 24HrRevengeTherapy
Gotta say, this my favorite Green Day single in...what, 12 years? That's how long ago "American Idiot" came out?! Where the fuck does the time go? But yeah, sounds like a nice mix between oldschool Green Day and 21CB - can't complain about that. Alan86
Just saw the most recent post on GDA about Bang Bang still topping that billboard chart and another chart now too. I'm happy the song is doing so well. It'll get another boost when the official video is released. I hope we get a live version soon too, either on a late night chat show or a pro shot from one of their first concerts.
lizziebix
Finally with the announcement of the Chicago show, the one station that played it on day one, is playing it regularly and I've gotten to hear on my way to and from work all this week.
