That lyric instantly made me think of the 2014 Isla Vista shootings.

Didn't Billie say in the Kerrang article that that incident was his main inspiration?

Honestly, I haven't bought the magazine yet, I've been so busy the past few days.  But, as posted a few pages ago, the 'Deserve to be annihilated' bit is lifted directly from his YouTube video.  I watched the video last night and it's so disturbing.

So listing 5 valid points is not a reasonable reason to dislike a song? Ok you really need to stop with this. If you don't like opinions that are not just positive you better leave GDC like now.

I was clearly quoting a whole different post. You know what I am referring to. Please give a reaction on that.

It's definitely nowhere near Green Day's best work, it feels inspired, but not as inspired as a song like Welcome to Paradise or 21st Century Breakdown. But there's still so much I like about it, probably a 7/10 I'd say now the honeymoon period of having a new Green Day song is over.

2. Opinion. Maybe you don't understand the the lyrics behind the song, which is possible since you're not in the US. To me, as a resident of the US and someone who pays a little attention to the happens in the country, the lyrics are actually quite clever and very true.

THIS

I hear references to Adam Lanza, George Zimmerman, among others... As disgusting as it is.

I think it's fantastic, it's inspired, energetic, angry, fast, and catchy as hell! That drum fill before the last chorus still makes me grin after 20+ listens :) for me it's brilliant, at least 8 or 9 out of 10, feels like Green Day at their best!

I'm am so ridiculously excited for this album. I'm excited to go out and buy it and play it over and over. I kinda didn't get that excitement around the trio so this time I'm totally ready for Green Day back at their best. And I love Bang Bang. I'm taking it at face value, as an angry song about a shitty situation. Fans have and will continue to constantly set their own expectations for Green Day's music. It's expected that every single song they release will either be something radically new or something alike to the Dookie era. Sometimes I think you just gotta take what comes, and appreciate that our band are still releasing music and loving it. We're kinda lucky in that respect!

Hi Kirsty

THIS! I wrote this yesterday.

-shitty static intro that should be completely removed
-weird bridge that ruins the fast pace
-no catchy chorus
-not to mention that the riff sounds like Territorial Pissings
-lyrics make no sense

+guitar tone sounds like something from Kerplunk
+that "world war zero" scream

4/10

I am certainly not seeing all these negatives. In fact I think the first second and fourth things aren't bad things at all.

If the song had a chorus I could ignore numbers 1 and 2 but it doesn't have one. The thing that is suppose to be one comes way too late in the song.

Actually the song has 2 choruses. The 'Bang Bang give me fame" one and the "Celebrity martyr" one. Both are really catchy to me

And in the trilogy, the choruses take up like half the songs or more and it gets too repetitive. This song has more variety

Celebrity martyr is the only that tries to be a chorus but in my opinion it's not catchy at all. I said this before too. It sounds like that part wants to have a happy vibe while the song itself tries to be dark. Something like Stuart and the ave chorus would fit much better

The MTV writers don't get the song either. They're saying Green Day is out of touch, when in fact it sounds like they are.

MTV is still speaking about music? Wow, that's a real news :D

I get what you're saying about the happy vibe but I see that as a ironic thing if you get the vibe while interpreting the lyrics.

edit: @Second favourite son couldn't have said it better.

Ah, and here we have an example of Green Day fans being cunts to anyone who doesn't toe the line, regardless of how clearly, respectfully, and intelligently the dissenting opinion is expressed.

Most of the people disagreeing with Tom are coming off as very childish - it's not a good look for you.

no your being childish

I'm the original Tom. I joined first. He was a usurper.

He should get a life. If you go back to his initial thoughts he actually liked the song before he realized that everyone else liked it.

Just a reminder that this thread is for discussing Bang Bang, not for discussing Steven Seagull  (however much more interesting you may find him :P).

Can you get even more pathetic haha.

I never said I love the song, I never said I hate the song. I like the raw sound and some other parts. But the song is nothing special really.

Now if you guys need a reason to feel better yourself, you can say that I'm bashing the lyrics and the chorus because "I want to be the minority" lol

Nope it's true, don't try to hide it. I remember you only saying positive things about this song at the beginning too.
