Sounds like it comes later, as they mentioned that this is the highest debut in a year. Quote After less than four days of airplay after the song premiered Thursday, Aug. 11, the cut enters Alternative Songs with 54 of the chart's 55 reporting stations having spun the song at least once in the tracking week ending Aug. 14, according to Nielsen Music. The No. 16 debut is the chart's highest since Beck's "Dreams" began at No. 13 on July 4, 2015.

The last time I even came close was with 21 guns, the first green day song I ever bought. I agree, I'm experiencing the same thing right now- I was afraid I'd get sick of it, but it's getting better with each play. And I think I've listened to it over 50 times. They throw so much at you throughout the song. I love how they structured it, and the musicianship is top notch. I could probably listen to Tre's drum solo for 10 hours straight and not get bored. I keep comparing this with KYE- I wasn't able to listen to that one more than a few times without it getting repetitive. I knew right away that KYE was a 3 out of 10 as far as GD songs go. This one is a 9.5 and I am convinced I'll still feel that way 10 years from now. 22 hours ago, Bastard of 1967 said: One thing that helps a bit is FLAC if you have players that support it. Less compression than CD/AAC/MP3, you can play it louder, and you get a slightly richer sound out of it (hell, even Horseshoes & Handgrenades kicks up a half-notch when you listen to its FLAC copy). American Idiot, 21st CB, and the Trilogy are all available on FLAC and you can bet your ass I'll buy RevRad when it's released in that format. P.S. Thanks to Matt for introducing me to that format. Great recommendation, I will absolutely check out that format. Glad you're back and adding value as always! This will be great for the re-listening of previous albums while we wait for RevRad to come out. 4 hours ago, Tinkle said: http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7476214/green-day-rock-charts-bang-bang This single is going to do very well. I usually don't care at all about chart performance, but in this case I am so happy for the band to see this unfolding with BB- I don't think it will be AI huge, but it is going to be one of the biggest rock tracks of the year. I could feel this coming when my semi-fan friends started texting me about their excitement over the song; these are the types of folks that really got into AI and Dookie but not much else. It's a bit of a leap since we haven't heard any of the other tracks, but based on early feedback about the album (Kerrang had some incredibly positive things to say), I think RevRad is going to be a big one. Again, not AI/ Dookie success- that's a high bar, and I believe the music landscape has changed too much to allow a repeat of that type of mainstream reception- but I fully expect this to be the rock album of the year. No pressure guys!
madafaka
If anyone is interested in watching/rewatching the horrific manifesto that (at least partly) inspired this song, it's on youtube. I remember watching it back in 2014, but didn't catch the direct link to Bang Bang right away, but now that I've rewatched it, it's pretty clear. The line "you deserve to be anihilated" is literally taken directly out of this speech. If you don't know, this guy killed 6 people, and injured 14, the day after uploading this video to his youtube channel. Be warned. It's truly disturbing to watch, but it does add some very deep resonance to the song. CDs are lossless, the reason the HDtracks versions sound better is because they're a different master that's less squashed and compressed.
Johnny Higher
First, I was disappointed by the song cause it was not what I excepectedfor the return of Green Day. But now I really like it and I think the lyrics are very clever.
madafaka
So, why do you think it is that Oh Love debuted 9 spots higher on the alt rock chart? Both higher than Know Your Enemy. I can't wrap my head around it. I don't remember that much hype in 2012, where the hype of 2009 seemed to tower over all because it was the post AI comeback! Can we expect a third golden era based on the numbers so far? Seems not, but this is all confusing data to me. Someone please give me a dose of reality! I think the trilogy started out very successfully, but then after the iHeart incident things started to fall apart, promotion wise. And Oh Love is still more radio friendly than the other singles, I guess that's why.
Teenage Lush
they were really, really heavy on the promotion for oh love (and the trilogy in general) before it came out, they've been really low key this time in comparison so it makes sense it started off higher. people probably listened to oh love once, got bored, and then forgot about it, which is why it started off successful and then never went anywhere
Chin for a Day
I finally got to hear Bang Bang on my local radio station!!!! I finally got to put the radio full blast and drive around playing it!!! My day is made. 25 minutes ago, Teenage Lush said: they were really, really heavy on the promotion for oh love (and the trilogy in general) before it came out, they've been really low key this time in comparison so it makes sense it started off higher. people probably listened to oh love once, got bored, and then forgot about it, which is why it started off successful and then never went anywhere I've actually posted the numbers before, but Oh Love premiered at #1 on Sept 1 (may be slightly wrong on the dates, I'm doing this from memory). It stayed at #1 for 3 weeks. iHeart was Sept 21 (again dates may be slightly wrong). It went to #2 on Sept 22 and by the end of the week was off the charts. So it was actually doing, very well and it appears that iHeart had a direct correlation to its downfall.
Sanity Loan
7 hours ago, Travis. said: CDs are lossless, the reason the HDtracks versions sound better is because they're a different master that's less squashed and compressed. In the case of American Idiot, yes. HDTracks' purpose is to not only provide lossless audio, but provide it in the highest quality possible, usually what it gets sent to mastering at. On average, it seems to be 24bit at 96kHz audio. Comparing that to a CD, those WAV files are encoded 16bit at 44.1kHz. So, A LOT of audio data is lost when the songs are mastered for CD. 44.1kHz means that 44,100 times per second, the encoder (in a CD's case, a WAVE encoder) looks at the audio stream and takes a snapshot of the sound. Each snapshot has 16 bits of data in it. With 96kHz and 24bit, that's more than double the amount of samples per second and 50% more audio data per sample. Now, will 99.9% of people notice a difference? Nope. Ok children, class is over for today.
