Popular Post Brooklyn Baby
OH, or it could be that the shooter gets an insane amount of media attention while the dead are just a number reported on the news, no in-depth thought given to who they were or their Facebook posts/family history/lives/etc. I don't know if someone else already made that point, I'm just throwing shit out and seeing what sticks.
Billie Hoe
Genius.com says: "The killer is eating every second of the media attention he’s attaining from his act. Through the deaths of his victims, he’s being “well fed” by the media and the national attention." and about the "giving head" one: "This line in particular addresses the current state of our culture, where it seems like the only things than can actually sell in a large scale are porn and death, be it in the form of fiction or not. Also, this may mean that the shooter’s behavior is caused because of sexual frustration." So you two were on point Of course these are just interpretations from others as well, but it does make a lot of sense to me now

I feel the same way! It's so catchy and I find myself humming bits of it to myself. I really like that it's not "radio friendly," too. It's a lot more fast-paced and aggressive than most of the stuff my local rock station plays, it's awesome.
Popular Post Hermione
This song really is so dark, with those clips at the beginning (couldn't make them out properly until I listened on headphones earlier) and Billie actually singing from the POV of the shooter, like holy shit. And that contrasted with the catchy melody and "hurrah" and fun little phrases just adds to it. Classic Green Day combo of dark subject matter and catchy tune but it seems more extreme than ever. So impressed with it!
Mr Panda
Just watched the lyric video, it was kinda creepy, but the song is <3 OMG I am hyped for the album now!!!

If i'm not wrong, Billie himself said that he was impressed too after writing the song, and wanted to get out of that POV as soon as possible.

Right now it is #23 on Canadian iTunes and when I go to just Alternative, it's #4. It's #29 on Switzerland's iTunes Charts, this morning it was on #36 I think. It's really hit a great spot there, because, while it isn't 'radio friendly', it also isn't full of expletives, so it can justifiably be played in all its glory on radio.
November's Storms
Initial thoughts are that I love it. It's that typical Green Day sound and it didn't leave me wanting like Oh Love did when it was released. I love the message of the song and hate that it's so relevant to these times. The lyric video is cool and I love there generally seems to be positive media hype about it. They're back baby! p.s. That bathroom drum fill was awesome!

Popular Post Maddie86
prediction: Billie doesn't play guitar on this song live. I see this as one of the songs where he just runs around the stage with a microphone
TommyCarcetti
This appears to be a pretty comprehensive charts site: http://kworb.net/pop/ It will be interesting to see how Bang Bang holds up over the coming days & weeks.
unextraordinarygirl
Just heard it today for the first time. The first time I listened to it I loved the music! The faster pace and harder sound was great but when Billie started singing I was a little disappointed with the vocals. They sounded too filtered at first. For me that kind of killed it. But now I'm on my third time listening and I love it. It's growing on me and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
RedundantIdiot
Well, I've just listened to it five times on the trot! I love how Billie sings it from the mindset of a killer and I'm so pleased that Tre did a drum solo
Paola17
#26 on iTunes overall, #3 on Alternative. American Idiot (the album) is #30 on the Alternative Charts - don't know if it's usually on there. Dookie is 52, and 21CB is 124.

Popular Post Sanity Loan
This is pretty cool... The 404 Show, a podcast on CNET, began their show with a good talk about Green Day and "Bang Bang." The hosts quickly reflected on their past experiences with the band and when they got in to them. The hosts mentioned they really haven't paid much attention to the band the past decade or so but they are in love with the new song. I just thought it was pretty neat that the song was brought up on a pop culture show and that the hosts, who admittedly haven't listened to them much recently, are digging it. http://www.cnet.com/news/the-404-show-1672-suicide-squad-no-mans-sky-green-day-tech-support-scammers-podcast/
unextraordinarygirl
Now that I know the lyrics are from the point of view of a mass murderer I'm going to listen to it again and really cue in on the lyrics. It will change my whole perspective of the song.
Joey
I remember hearing the American Idiot song for the first time (it was on the communal radio at work) and that really excited me for the album. This song isn't a million miles away. It's a good, rocking tune and seems like more than the band just going through the motions or writing to the pop punk rulebook (as far as pop punk bands can avoid such a thing). As lead singles go it's orders of magnitude better than Oh Love and Know Your Enemy, though that's not exactly tricky. Thumbs up.
Alan86
The lyric video that was posted on green days YouTube page has corrections made to the lyrics. Such as, the "leading" man in my own private drama, instead of "little"
JOE THE X-KID
Well Bang Bang is everything i wanted from a new green day single. Dark, heavy and upbeat. I really wanted a mix of 21st century breakdown and kinda nimrod sound, but sounding fresh. I think they nailed it with Bang Bang. I'm so glad you can hear a lot of dynamics and textures. Distortion sounds great, drums are punchy. Thank god the bridge is not just a solo too, i think its the highlight of the song. And the lyrics are amazing! i think the vocals are a little bit weak and drowned out in the mix but kinda reminds me of insomniac. but still great track. Green day are back, you beautiful bastards. Popular Post Lone
Blink-182, Weezer, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, to name a few, have their singles playing on the radio and at the first listen they seemed alright. After a while these songs eventually grew on me. It feels like this has been the case for a lot of the songs I have been hearing on the radio lately. Fast forward to a few seconds before Aug 11th 7am PDT when all of us are waiting with excitement for the single to come out. We were talking in the group chat, viewing the topic for the song, and listening to a live streams (a non-US one might I add) for any hints of the new song. @Andres had sent us a Spotify link to us in the chat and I was thinking "here we go". I pressed play and had no clue what was coming next since I tried my best to avoid reading any comments about the song. The moment the intro started I already knew I was hooked. The face paced guitars and drums took me back to the pace of St. Jimmy. Hell yeah, a fast first single. Then you have the catchy hurrahs and the chorus. Aspects of 21st Century Breakdown returns in the bridge of the song. Lastly, that drum fill from Mr. Tré Cool. All these different elements packed into this song. It's great. Welcome back Green Day. This single leaves me thinking, if this is the first single off of the album, I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album.
Popular Post Hermione
I love "oh baby baby this is viva vendetta". First because it makes the song like a sequel to Peacemaker (which I suppose it is really), and second because of the last time they used the phrase "oh baby baby..."
