I love when the chorus before the bridge comes, it's so full of energy I never expect it to be like that and I get a kick! I wouldn't know what's my favourite part/lyric but that definitely stands out.

do you mean "i wanna be a celebrity martyr" part? it's my favourite too!

Probably a stupid aeration but what is Billie trying to say exactly when he sings "I wanna be a celebrity martyr?"

Is he/the mass shooter basically saying that they wanna become famous(a celebrity) and die for what they believe in?

Ya shoot up a night club......ur name is all over the place..  in my opinion.  Now he, or she, is a 'celebrity' cuz of all the media.  And he or she is going.., hold on, i'm laughting, have sex with 72 virgins..    sorry... beer came out of my nose.

This sounds pretty good! They go full Offspring during the bridge though lol. Also I really hope this does better than Bored to Death and Dark Necessities

Yeah he says in the Rolling Stones article that the song is from the perspective of a mass shooter. So the line is him saying "I want to be known for killing the people who are against my beliefs"

I really want the song to be a commercial success but can't see it happening. Bored to Death and Dark Necessities are radio friendly compared to this.

Really - I think the exact opposite.  They have made a song 3.30 mins long sound epic..:)

Anyways anyone got opinions from friends who are not GD fans.

Okay so I have tried to collect my thoughts after listening to the song like 10 times in a row. I think this is the lead single Green Day NEEDED.

It is fast, loud, angry and political. They needed to come back and make a statement and that's what they've done... ahhh they are back!

Did you get your job, sweetie?

I had this fucking song on repeat all night. Still not sick of it.

Virgin Radio sent me a DM about an hour after the song aired, asking if I was around to talk to them about it. I wasn't able to, but I also felt like saying 'buddy, I only listened to your show to hear the new song.' -_-

The celebrity martyr line I think is from the perspective of a mass shooter who knows they're not going to survive themselves once they're caught. A martyr is someone who is killed for their beliefs - and the shooter believes everyone he kills deserves it. And that they'll get press for their "cause". It's a fucking good line!

I agree it's epic but I'm just talking about how it will fit in with other very commercial songs on the radio. I mean if it does end up charting well I will be very happy!

The more I listen, the more it seems similar to 21CB songs rather than AI or Insomniac. East Jesus Nowhere has the same sort of feel, with call and response lyrics and a strong guitar riff. Plus the bridge is similar. It has similar lyrical construction too. I can hear a bit of Know Your Enemy and Peacemaker in there too. But for some reason I find Bang Bang a lot more poignant and energetic.

Oh yeah, it was that Austrailian girl that wasn't going to go to her job interview ...  I gave great advice telling her to get the job and may have called her sweetie?  Should I have quoted Green Days Makeout Party and called her a fucking delinquent?   WOW....u are ALL sheeple.

The opening of the song immediately reminded me of East Jesus Nowhere. Mainly the news readings and then Billie saying something "Deserve to be annihilated" in Bang Bang and  "And we will see how godless a nation we have become" in EJN.

When does he say the annihilated part?
