MillenniumFan
Well sadly, according to the iTunes charts of the US and UK, the songs seems to have been moving down the charts since august 13th. Well, at least according to this website here : http://www.itunescharts.net/us/artists/music/green-day/songs/bang-bang/ In both cases, its highest position appears to have been reached on the 12th. Harry Potter.
no one outside of rock circles knows bang bang or that the album is coming out.
MillenniumFan
It don't think it was as heavily promoted as previous singles. I also wonder why Green Day plans to release its album almost two months after Bang Bang's release, that's a long wait in my opinion. If there is one it must be very subtle, but it could just as easily be a lead in to the static/news reports that isn't linked to another song. I don't think you're crazy though. 5 hours ago, Tinkle said: I'm trying hard to hear it - but can't. I can hear it. You might need to be wearing headphones to hear it. It's literally just the first second that you hear it. It's only a second but I can definetely hear some guitar fading

Yeah, there are 4 strikes of an A chord spread out through the intro. But it doesn't seem like it's coming in from the end of the previous song. Well the bass plays the main riff in the intro, which is also played when the guitars kick in. The riff contains two parts and goes something like this A5 - F5 - D5 & A5 - F5 - C5 - E5 (each part lasts about 5 seconds). You don't have to know what that means but both parts start with the A5 chord (just as Matt mentioned), which is what the guitar plays in the intro. tl;dr: I think it's just part of the intro and not some kind of transition. Also Oh Love was way more heavily promoted and also it kinda rided on the successs of 21stcb (like the whole trilogy did). I mean after the commercial disaster trilogy, It was pretty obvious that this one wasn't going to do so well at the beginning like Oh Love.

Coming in at #23 is a solid performance for a single with limited promotion from a band out of the mainstream for almost four years. 2 minutes ago, Jake69 said: Isn't that the highest charted debut for a rock song since a song by Beck in 2015 Yup. #16 on the Alternative songs, the best-performing newcomer this week. It's still underwhelming where they're at now when compared with how they used to be the biggest rock band on the planet. Especially with artists like X Ambassadors who no one will remember soon, Green Day should have no problem beating them. Or at least come close. Maybe with a more commercial single they will. DeJennsitized
Do songs normally do well without a music video circulating? I'm assuming exposure on the music channels will give it a boost once it's out.

The times have changed. Back in the mid-2000's, GD, U2 and Coldplay (back when they put out rock albums) ruled the charts. Now, dance and hip hop-infused alternative rule the charts because it caters to the masses. A music video will certainly help, though I agree that Bang Bang has less of a head start than Bored to Death had. 1 minute ago, Jenn123 said: Do songs normally do well without a music video circulating? RedundantIdiot
Bang Bang has done well in the rock charts because rock fans know the song has been released, but it isn't doing well in the mainstream charts because rap/dance/RnB are getting more airplay. This isn't a problem that only GD have as I see that the 1st single from the new RHCP album only got to #72 in the UK singles chart. Around the time that AI came out a lot of rock bands were doing well in the mainstream chart.....it sucks that kids are listening to the shite that is in the charts nowadays As for the video, I was expecting them to have put it out by now. As much as I like the lyric video- there are only so many times you can watch a lyric video. Hopefully music channels will actually bother play the music video when they receive it.

I thought I heard a little subtle piece of guitar fading way before the drums kick in with the A chord. Like the Holiday ending on the beggining of BOBD... It must be just part of the static sound though.

Really wanted to like it, but it sounds like a bad album track that got cut from any given album. I dunno. I'm hugely disappointed, but not surprised. That's disappointing to hear. It seems like most fans have viewed the song as a great comeback song for them. It's fast, it's loud, it's the exact opposite of a lot of the stuff on the trilogy. We can agree on the lyrics. I don't mind them, they fit the song, but they could have been better. I'm curious what you're comparing it to that you'd consider it a "bad album track". For me, it's one of the best songs they've had since Horseshoes & Handgrenades. I appreciate that it doesn't sound exactly like any other Green Day song, but still familiar, and I appreciate that it has a message behind it.

Hero_Of_The_Hour
4 minutes ago, Andres said: What do you guys think he means with "I testify like a lullaby of memories" My take on it was possibly it was a shooter testifying in court (obviously following the act) and as he is testifying he is reliving the memory of the event and enjoying it like a lullaby to send him off to sleep. Especially as the next line is "broadcasting live and it's on my radio", which makes me think of trials that are broadcast live, giving the shooter more fame which is evidently something he desperately craves to begin with. Then the "and it's on my radio" part could refer to the shooter having a radio in prison and hearing the trial being reported about on said radio and therefore knowing he has reached notoriety. Just my thoughts anyway

To him, those memories are the sweetest thing ever - like a macabre lullaby.
