So, this wasn't live, it was from last Friday and it was a phone call interview, they wanted to aired it tonight cause of the first show but obviously that didn't happen. I didn't listen to it since the beginning, but what I could heard, it was nice. He mentioned that he loved working with Tim Armstrong for the video, that Rev Rad it's now his favorite Green Day album, that his favorite song from it changes everyday, but he really loves Somewhere Now (He mentioned another one, but I forgot lol). The girl asked him if we could expect more music from FBHT or The Network in the future and he said that she shouldn't asked that, he doesn't know The Network, he doesn't know who those guys are . At the end she asked him what was he more proud about after all these years of being in Green Day and he say that he was very proud that they were still best friends, they still playing music together, obviously The Rock and Roll hall of fame and the new album

Great! Love the Network part :D

I've split this into its own thread, there's now a recording of the interview on GDA:

Cool interview, got to love Tre.  I like how he makes the interviewer repeat what she says about how well Bang Bang is doing and then apologises, he heard it properly first time but wanted to hear her comments again! He cracks me up.

I wish they didn't have that awful background music during the interview. At times I was struggling to hear what he was saying.

Yeah, I also laughed hard at that point, that is SO Tré  Cool interview, but shitty quality, I only got half of what he was saying.

"We have a less-than-perfect phone line, what can we do about it?"

"Hmm, let's put background music over it, that'll distract people from the interview altogether."

It was a good interview though.  I feel like Tre doesn't really get to do as much on his own as the others, he's more relied on for the jokes in the group interviews.  So it was great to hear him do a well rounded, interesting, entertaining interview.  I love his voice and he managed to strike a good balance between being jokey and being serious enough to actually give an informative interview.  Worth a listen if you haven't yet.

Transcript!!! There are some bits I tried so hard but just couldn't make out. If you hear something I missed let me know! :D

Spoiler

INTERVIEWER: It's Tre Cool of Green Day joining us on the show tonight and the album which is out October 7th, it's called Revolution Radio, was produced by the band, which is something you all haven't done since 1992's Kerplunk. This far into your career, what made the band decide to produce the album yourselves?

TRE: Well I think we produced ourselves this time, just sort of, we knew exactly what we were gonna go for and, you know, we trust our ears at this point, we've made a few records, so...we've always produced, to some extent, on all of our records and that, so, maybe because it was a small space, maybe it was better to have less heads inside that room, cause we recorded Revolution Radio in a very small studio in Oakland California.

INTERVIEWER: That's probably the most practical reason I've heard for a band saying that they produced their own record ever. ... And I recently got to see the trailer for Ordinary World, that's the movie that Billie Joe Armstrong stars in. Have you seen the movie and what are your thoughts on it?

TRE: Yeah, a couple of times, it's good. It's sort of, it's, he's believeable too, I mean I don't see Billie, my friend, who I've known for most of my life on the screen when I watch the movie, I see Perry, his character, so it's good, he did a really good job.

INTERVIEWER: The trailer looks amazing, for those of you who haven't seen it yet I'm gonna play it for you just so you get a sense of what the movie's about. [Ordinary World trailer audio] You can see it in its entirety at loudwire.com. ... Do you think those albums did not get a fair shot because of the lack of promotion due to Billie Joe's personal struggles? What was your takeaway from that?

TRE: I think our audience, I think a lot of people got to enjoy it, and you know, thing is they're out now, so, they'll always be available, it's just, we have a pretty big catalog and that added a whole bunch of good songs so now, making setlists is probably as hard as ever.

INTERVIEWER: That's a positive takeaway. Alright, we're gonna hear Green Day's latest, Bang Bang. ... The single Bang Bang climbed to number 1 on Billboard Mainstream Rock Song Charts in record time for the band. How does it feel to have fans just eat it up and be as supportive as ever after a four year break?

TRE: Sorry, you cut out there.

INTERVIEWER: Okay, the single Bang Bang climbed to number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs Chart in record time for the band. How does it feel to have fans just eat it up and be as supportive as ever after the four year break?

TRE: Oh I'm sorry, I'm gonna make you repeat that again. No, I heard you the first time, I just wanted to hear it again. That sounded amazing, thank you. [Interviewer laughs] I like that. You know, I can't wait to get on the road, so we're just really happy with the record and can't wait to get out there.

INTERVIEWER: Yeah and I'm sure people are even more anxious to listen to the new stuff live and watch you guys perform it. What made you go with Tim Armstrong, frontman for Rancid, for the Bang Bang video?

TRE: Um, I think that, you know, we've known Tim for most of our lives, you know, he's always been a staple of the scene that we're from and it sorta made sense and, you know, [something about directing the video, audio breaks up a bit] keepin' it in the old family.

INTERVIEWER: Alright fair enough! ... Of course Green Day's been around long enough for the band to experience so many changes in the music industry and just the way people consume music.

TRE: I think that, you know, music in general now, it can be super accessible to the point of being free, you know. Kind of a newer thing but, and it's good for us cause we've always been a live band and our concerts have always been sort of, the main part about Green Day so now that's kind of become the only way that we were getting a connection with music, is to see it live, you know. I think there is things that are a challenge, but there's a lot of things that are (the future??) now (???something about tickets???), like the convenience of computers, like affecting the music industry is one thing but how much convenience it brings to young people live too there's something to be said for that.

INTERVIEWER: Yeah, always the pros and cons. ... I interviewed Tre Cool of Green Day on Friday and the plan was always to air the interview tonight cause they were supposed to kick off their tour of intimate venues tonight which quickly sold out, but the band has issued a statement and said three of the first four dates on the tour - St Louis, which was supposed to be tonight, Chicago on the 21st, and Detroit on the 24th - are postponed, while a Toronto appearance on the 23rd is cancelled altogether. [reads band statement] So some mystery illness is messing with the tour plan, but I did ask him why they chose to go with intimate venues as opposed to, you know, a stadium which they could fill if they wanted to, and when are there going to be more shows announced.

TRE: Yeah on some level, a smaller venue and work our way up, so, I think we've done this on every record, so kind of no surprise, you asked, you know. As far as promising another tour right now, I'd have to say, uh, vague and evasive.

INTERVIEWER: Oh, okay! [Tre laughs] Got it, got it. Billie Joe has spoken about the band's ability to continue making new young fans, what do you attribute that to?

TRE: You know, if there was a solid answer to how those things work everybody would know and I just, I have no idea, I dunno how that happens but it's amazing and incredible, and there's a lot of generations that come to our shows so.

INTERVIEWER: That's always what you want. ... And, wondering if you have a favourite Green Day album.

TRE: I think it's Revolution Radio. [Interviewer laughs] Definitely. No, it absolutely is and, it's Green Day at our best, and I just love these songs. Actually listening to the whole record yesterday and, man. It's good, I can't wait for you guys all to be able to have it.

INTERVIEWER: What's your favourite song on the album?

TRE: It kinda changes from day to day. I really was digging Somewhere Now yesterday, which is the first song on the record. The song Say Goodbye is really exciting. You know what? Every single song on the record, I'm really close to. I wish I could hear one of these Green Day songs for the first time [both laugh] that's an experience I'll never get to have.

INTERVIEWER: Spoken like a true man who is promoting Revolution Radio which is out October 7th. ... Can we ever expect new music from the Network or Foxboro Hot Tubs ever again?

TRE: You should never expect The Network, we don't know when they're coming, we don't even know who they are. Nobody even knows who they are. We don't even know who they are and they're some of our best friends. [Interviewer laughs] But are they?

INTERVIEWER: I think we have a pretty good idea of who they are but expect nothing, understood. ... Alright, one last question for Tre Cool of Green Day. As I mentioned at the top of the show, Green Day has been together decades, they've accomplished so much, they have five grammys, they're in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, they have sold over 75 million albums worldwide. Of all of that and everything else you know you've done, what are you most proud of?

TRE: I think the fact that we're still able to make relevant music and we're still all best friends and, you know, still are a very fun band to be in. I think those are the things I'm proud of, just I guess would be our longevity? And then that way you can kinda put the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, you know, and the other experiences into that category as well.

INTERVIEWER: Very cool. Many many many thanks to Tre Cool for taking the time to speak with us.

I'm glad he acknowledged the shitty side of ticket buying nowadays. It gives me hope that they as a band will try to do all that they can to make sure fans get the tickets and not scalpers, even if in reality they have very little control over that.
