I really liked it, definitely one of their better videos, certainly in recent times.  It tells a story (albeit a different one from the song), has the band in it as a part of that story, and is generally well filmed (from my totally non-technical perspective).  I was expecting to be disappointed, and I'm not.

The rapid-fire edits are effective, there's a bit of a story line to follow (the bank robbers being young females was a nice twist, I was expecting the robbers to pull off their masks and find it was actually Billie, Mike, & Tre underneath), and the intimate club scene captures the essence of what it's like to be with Green Day performing in a tiny venue.  What I didn't like: A bank robbery which scares the crap out of everyone but where nobody actually gets hurt is fundamentally different from a mass shooting.  The band & Tim Armstrong had a chance to make a real strong point by staying true to the subject of the song instead of doing a sidetracked, loose interpretation of it, and they missed the opportunity.  Also it would have been perfect to have had a whole bunch of squibs going off in the bank scenes right where Tre lays on his furious drum fills at "gimme fame!"....another opportunity for impact missed.  Getting the band in plenty of the scenes was important though, and they got that base covered.  As for the girls throwing money at the band in the video's closing scenes? Heh that's me and my wallet when Green Day goes on tour. :D

Overall, it's decent and most importantly, it sells the song and the band well.  B++.

I really liked this video. The social commentary is very clear. Like the Orlando shooter doing a crime to earn the respect of ISIS, the people in masks are committing a robbery to impress Green Day. Just like ISIS had nothing to do with the shootings, Green Day has nothing to do with the robbery, but the media thinks they do. I think it's also a commentary in celebrity worship and obsession, as these "fangirls" stare at Billie like he's the face of God, and they're begging for his approval.

Anyone else notice that Mike's bass in more prominent sounding in the video rather than just the single's audio? Or is it just me..

So a song about a serial killer with bank robbers in the music video?

This. I don't get this totally. IMO this video is boring but still better than Oh Love.

I've commented elsewhere about this - the band didn't have Chris Lord-Alge do the mix this time and it shows.

Oh Love video fit the song well. This as much as its growing on me and I understand it a lot more, I think it's still not that amazing as I seen others say.

It had Billie Joe in a tight white T-shirt with a deep V-neck and I still find it very boring.

Well what I'm saying is in the single version everything is muffled together, which is cool, but I noticed that the music in the video sounded like it was mixed differently. Especially at the beginning...the song doesn't go from a volume level of 10 to 100. Which is also cool. I play for both sides in this one.

i'm actually really glad they didn't go with a literal interpretation of the song for the video. i don't see how it would be possible to make a tasteful music video about a mass shooter.

Which is probably why they didn't make a video about a mass shooting.

The only way they could have possibly got away with a mass shooting video is if it was a kid playing a computer game or something but then people would probably think they were trying to link mass shootings to violent video games which is nonsense.

He's the one playing the guitar and singing ;)

Never know why people feel so strongly about how good a music video is, just enjoy the damn song like.

Anyway, does anyone know what guitar Billie is playing in the video? It's definitely not a LP Junior, thought it could be an SG or a Gretsch of some sort? Any ideas?

The thing that bothers me most about the video is that I just don't believe that is Billie singing in the performance part of the video. His facial expressions makes it look like he is screaming the lyrics out but the song doesn't sound that way at all. The vocals and the video also seem out of sync in places.

I think I prefer the lyric video. I liked that instantly.

After watching the video twice - I realize that Tre Cool is the most gentle bank robber.  He even held the door open for Mike AND Billie.
