There's a good chance of this actually happening. But I don't see it as a bad thing though. I'm just not sure if the GnR audience is the fitting audience for the new Green Day songs.

Did you miss the part about Skrillex opening for them :P Green Day would be a-ok

That's terrible evidence for measuring success of a tour (an anecdotal fallacy either way) How bout we compare that to some Green Day tours. First, they're playing 25 large stadium shows on this tour (US only), wanna know the most US stadium shows Green Day has ever landed for one tour? 10. The GNR tour had cleared the $100 mil revenue mark in the middle of July, the 21st Century Breakdown tour (GD's most recent large-scale tour) made about $74 mil the ENTIRE tour. GNR has sold out 12/25 shows completely despite massive venues and ticket prices, and projected 90% capacity (one million tix) for the second leg of the tour. /FOH

YOu can't just go by how much was made on the tours.  They may have different expenses and different ticket prices.  I believe part of the problem with the 21CB tour was that they over extended on the effects.  In Canada and the US alone, the 21 CB tour sold 2 million tickets, where the GNR tour is hoping to surpass 1 million.

Sometimes ZJ makes good points and sometimes not. :/

@Jake69 did you just join the GnR board to ask the mod? 😂

I just came here to ask this same question.

I think you're giving GnR too much credit. I didn't think this tour was doing well at all. Here in Phoenix the show is tonight and they are still advertising the hell out of it and selling tix for $20 on Groupon. Doesn't sound like it's been a major success.

Your not serious right??

I don't know what to think about this thing if it's true. Honestly I don't like GnR at all. Meh. I just hope it will result in something positive for the upcoming album.

Ok ignore the stadiums booked AND we can't use $$? That's convenient lol. Also that number is for the second leg only, with far less shows 😂😂

can we just admit it's been a massive success so far and be on it with it because you really can't pretend this hasn't been, and that was the original point I was arguing.

MASSIVE gnr fan here. Been on a lot of gnr forums throughout the years (though not on gnr truth specifically). Know MSL's history well. He's something of a major douche, but the guy IS well connected in the world of gnr. He has legit inside sources in the industry. He knew about CD coming out in 2008 exclusively to Best Buy several months before it was publicly announced or even speculated. He's proved his worth many times over. If he says it's happening, bet your bottom dollar that it's happening.

@belinda jane OK when I saw this thread I immediately thought about the postponement of Guns n Roses tour announcement until Wednesday - wasn't there a large sign in Melbourne saying they were playing the MCG in February.

It would be a strange thing for GD to open for GnR, especially if they're debuting some songs from RevRad. I'd rather they played new songs to their fans first. If it's just Bang Bang, it might be alright though, and exposure-wise it might be a good idea to open for GnR, especially if it's just a one-time thing.

I wasnt saying it wasn't a success.  I was simply pointing out that dollars, grossed isn't the only indication of a successful tour.  Ticket sales are also an indication. I never once said it wasn't a success.  You don't need to be so snippy. It was a simple conversation

It feels weird to know Green Day opening for some other band. I mean when did they open for anybody else the last time?

I hope this rumor is fake. I don't see Green Day opening for anyone. However, I know that AC/DC opened for The Rolling Stones in 2003 so everything is possible.

All right, I'm believing this dude.

I wish this wasn't true though, GD shouldn't be opening for anyone.

It might make some sense, slightly, if it was announced earlier.  According to that article, GNR's new album is not doing well, so having a big name band play with them could boost ticket sales.  As for GD, they get to try out the new album in a stadium setting.  From what we have heard, this album may be better suited to a stadium than a small secret show.  GD and GNR are good friends, so I'm sure they would be willing to ehlp each other out.

Gnr's most recent album came out six months before 21st Century Breakdown, and yeah the album was pretty shit. It was basically Axl's solo album with everyone that made the core of the band and gave weight to the gnr name gone. Think Billie replacing Mike and Tre with C-D list nobodies and continuing on as Green Day and even then it's still better off than what Axl did with CD.

But anyways, /rant. Just clarifying that this tour is in support of Axl, Slash, and Duff reuniting and not of any new album. Saw them in July and they fucking killed it. Fell out of love with Green Day quite a few years ago, but wouldn't have minded seeing them play their old stuff opening for gnr. They're still a killer live band, no doubt. And nostalgia and all that

I love Guns N' Roses! I would have went to one of the Chicago shows in July if the tickets hadn't been so expensive. However, if Green Day was opening at those shows I would have been there in a heartbeat.

Not necessarily, Metallica (who is as big if not bigger than Green Day) opened for The Rolling Stones in San Francisco in the mid-2000s.
