Green Day's "Bang Bang" quickly reaches the Top 10 at both active rock and alternative radio.

Green Day’s “Bang Bang” jumps comfortably into the Top 10 on this week’s Mediabase active rock and alterantive airplay charts.

Up sixteen places, the lead “Revolution Radio” single takes #6 on this week’s active rock listing. It received ~1,316 spins during the August 14-20 tracking period (+763), which marked its first full week of availability.

After debuting at #17 on last week’s alternative chart, “Bang Bang” soars to #8 this week. It garnered ~2,036 weekly alternative spins (+1,066).

“Bang Bang” is the greatest weekly airplay gainer at both formats. It is also the lone addition to each format’s Top 10.

people need to start buying records again!

No spotify, no youtube and no illegal downloads.. those things ruin the music industy..

If all rock fans started buying records again, record companieds would invest more money in new bands and Rock music would most likely be able to recover a little bit...

Everyone get out and buy some fucking records and support the good artists of 2016!!!

Peace

I'll torrent some :)

Anyone else feel left hanging here? Like yeah you released the song and that's awesome and we love it, but they've just disappeared since. No live performances, no radio interviews, etc. and the album comes out in basically a month.

Definitely feeling a little "blue balls" here for sure. All of this information came at once and then it's hush hush since. Calm before the storm I guess. I'm guessing we won't hear anything until tour dates or music video.

I know they're not trying to over promote it like the trilogy but don't not promote it at all. Give us something.

From a time period right now where Rock interest is not at it's all time high, they should be promoting this thing like no other.

It's the VMAs next week, does anyone feel like a surprise performance is possible? Perhaps they'll go the 'massive exposure + tour dates + music video' route to start things off. And not all the performers have been announced yet

The industry is definitely developing, and trying to keep up with the times.  It's not being completely successful, but it's on the way there.  The ideal place for them to be is with physical and digital copies of music co-existing, letting people pick and choose.  Demand for CDs may be going down but vinyl is becoming far more popular again, and it's in the industry's best interest to cater to that.  The biggest change in recent times, however, isn't people not wanting to own physical copies.  It's people not wanting to own songs at all.  Consumers want to listen to music without having to buy it, and that's why spotify's so successful: because it's the one thing stopping people from downloading music illegally. It's also a very good music discovery tool, where you can listen to songs by artists you don't really know and decide if you like them without being tied down.  For example, I like some of Blink's songs.  I hate others.  So I listened to their new stuff on Spotify, because I don't wanna waste my money on something I might not like, but I don't want to miss out on something I might love.  Blink still receives (a pathetically small amount of) money for me playing the song, yet I don't actually pay anything for it.  Artists who can use streaming services to their advantage are the artists who are preparing for the future.  For us, Green Day's use of Spotify is largely irrelevant, as we'll be buying the songs.  But for the average Gren Day consumer, who kinda likes them but isn't too fussed, the free-to-listen, unlimited plays platform is probably the most lucrative.  Bands need to excel in selling physical, digital and streamed copies of their music in order to truly succeed in today's music industry.

Yes, but my point is that the physical cookies are living on borrowed time. Vinyl might have a some regained popularitet at the moment, but it is not something you want to invest your future in. To underline my point, I can tell you that it is gonna feel weird for me going out to buy Revolution Radio. I only do it to support the band. I don't have anything to play a CD with except my computer. Truth is it's probably nevet gonna get played, and that is not something that is attractive for the consumers in the long run. As long as there is a demand for vinyl and CD, they should meet it, but it is not whats gonna put Food on their tables in the future

They must be slow playing it to some extent- stepping aside and letting BB slowly generate interest and move up the charts during this typically quiet late August lull. They may well release dates, etc. soon but I wouldn't count on heavy promotion the next couple of weeks- with the end of summer a lot of folks are on vacation and not really paying attention to news or new music. These are typically some of the lowest rating viewing weeks for U.S. television for example. I expect they'll let the single do its thing the next couple of weeks and then start the heavy publicity and promotion when September starts and everyone's back in the flow of school, work, etc. It'll do a lot more good for word of mouth buzz if they target early September for the high visibility publicity.

If this is the approach I think it's a smart strategy and departure from the last promotion cycle, which felt a bit all over the place and scattered. I hope this promotion effort is more organic and thoughtful. I also believe they'll limit the travel and promotional demands on the band, since last time it was way to strenuous with obviously a negative impact on Billie's health. I imagine the other guys were run ragged too, traveling from Japan to Europe to playing on GMA, etc.- none of them could have been feeling very rested or healthy with that insane schedule.

So they are waiting until closer to the album release, that's alright.  They are doing everything different then they did the last time and I think they've got a spectacular plans this time around.   BANG BANG is getting media attention and climbing the charts.   From what I've seen it's on three different charts so far, doing better than lots of their previous singles.   Topped at least 9 out of 41 singles, so that's promising.

In my opinion, it is better to let BB quietly climb the charts and drop a new single and/or do some big evening show performances on Colbert/Conan etc in September. They need a good run-up to the release on October 7 and a sustained promotion campaign will matter much more in September than late August. Yes, we could do with some more promotion. A music video release before the end of the month would be excellent before they unleash everything they have planned.

I've just noticed that Bang Bang is #36 in the Scottish charts, but it was #84 in the UK chart.

....people talking about vinyl being anything other than an incredible way to experience music...wtf??? really scratching my head over that one...

and bands don't make money on CDs or vinyl or cassettes or iTunes or whatever physical/digital way you prefer. they make it through touring.

Every album I have bought I have ripped to an m4a, hook them up on my phone and play that through my car.  I still buy cd's because for one i support the music that I like.  But also because if something ever happens to my computer or my phone.  I still have my stuff on backups and even another set of backups.  I don't believe in paying for stuff through itunes or other online services because if you lose your account you lose your stuff as well. Or so I have heard and that's not rocking over here b.

During the last 24 hours many, many Italian online newspapers/music websites published articles or galleries about Revolution Radio, I counted at least 15 of them. It looks like the Warner Music Italy promotional machine is now fully working.

Bang Bang has debuted at #104 on the Billboard Hot 100 (so it's 4 on the Bubbling Under chart). It's iTunes performance has trailed off (currently at #233), but hopefully airplay and streaming will be enough to push it into the Hot 100 next week. Oh Love spent like 4 weeks in the top 125, despite not performing as well as Bang Bang has on iTunes, so hopefully it won't need a dramatic iTunes gain to get in the top 100.

I think considering it hasn't got a music video yet (and therefore isn't circling the music channels which is where I used to discover music), it's doing very well! It hasn't really been promoted yet either, beyond the radio stations. Still very early stages :D

The problem is the song is not getting any airplay, since it's not included in the most popular radio's playlists. I remember Oh Love got way more attention. Same situation all over Europe though.

To me, Bang Bang has no chances of topping Active rock charts mainly because of the new Metallica single, whose rise is incredible. Let's see what it will do on Alternative, but BB is a bit off-genre compared to the other hits on there. Oh Love did also get some airplay from Hot AC and Top 40 stations, being "softer" and BB won't (no adds at the moment and I doubt Warner is going to send the song to those formats).

After this apocalyptic analysis , I'd say it may make the Hot 100, but definitely at the bottom of the chart (80-100).
