So how is it doing now sales wise do we know?

RevRad had an increase in sales during the elections. Nothing relevant though. If we sum all US sales it should be something like 150/160k copies.

Bang Bang has been a great lead single topping both Alternative and Active Rock charts.

Still Breathing is constantly rising on the charts. Today it's #15 and #21 in the Active Rock and Alternative chart respectively. On Tuesday the charts will be official and the positions will surely increase. We can hope even better for next weeks, since today SB was at the top of MTV Rocks "Biggest Tracks Right Now".

IMO December/February should be the time for us to hear SB on the radio. Better if as a hit. I hope so.;)

I actually went to a mall for the first time in years last weekend. The vinyl (which was the feature attraction) and the cd were both featured in the "top 20" displays at the storefront of the last remaining "record store" (more like novelty store- it's more like hot topic these days than a traditional music retailer). There are no more Best Buys or Circuit Cities in this mall, by the way, which used to be the major channel through which many people bought cd's.

I think this experience summed things up pretty well- the album is doing great if you take things into context. It's almost like 100k copies is the new platinum. No one buys physical copies anymore, and even though people are buying downloads I think overall purchased music volume has gone way down. As a way to survive this store (which is/ was a major local music chain) is featuring vinyls. In other words, only the hardcore music fan is buying. And Revolution Radio was in the top 10 for these fans.

Like you mention, there will be a bump once Still Breathing starts getting more airplay. It's going to do well. The album won't go old-school platinum (1 million copies) but that's because the music retail landscape and industry have changes so dramatically. I think the album has been very well received overall in context of the rapid change in the industry.

I'm sure these guys are grateful they're well set financially thanks to having been around back in the "good old days". I can't imagine how a band (unless it reaches super popular status) makes decent money these days on album sales alone. I've had a couple posts about touring economics and this is the only way a "newer" band can really cash in, which is a much tougher way to do it especially since you also need to still dedicate time to making and releasing good albums.

Still Breathing is gaining in the charts this week

US Alternative Songs - No. 17
US Mainstream Rock - No. 13
US Rock Airplay - No. 12
Canada Rock - No. 38

Once the track starts getting the promotion it deserves, I'm sure those positions will get much higher!

Well it sold 120,000 copies in the first 3 weeks, that's all we know.

Chart positions on the Top Album Sales chart were No. 1 for the first week, then No. 5, then No. 18, then No. 50 and then back up to No. 38 (probably due to the publicity GD is getting from the election etc) and this week back to No. 58. This chart is different from the Billboard 200 now which factors in Track Sales and Streaming. The album is doing much better on the Album Sales chart

On the Billbaord 200, it debuted at No. 1, then 10 the second week, then 41, then 92, then up to 79 and this week it's back down to 109

So I don't know exactly how much copies it's sold as of now, but it is doing quite well in terms of album sales now

It's ironic though because the social media response to their publicity has been 100% negative from what I've seen outside of here and our own blogs etc.

A case of even bad press is good press?

15th on Alternative chart.

Yes.:D Looking at the increase percentages it looks like it'll climb much higher than that.

The number of views for the Still Breathing video has overtaken the number of views for the Bang Bang video. Right now the figures are:

Still Breathing: 2,849,276 views

Bang Bang: 2,842,919 views

I expected Still Breathing to overtake Bang Bang sooner- perhaps people have been watching the music video for Bang Bang more frequently after the recent award show performances of the song

Yeah I thought so too. Hopefully it'll get more views once GD actually start promoting the single. Still Breathing is still rising in the charts so that might mean that it will get more YouTube views as a result

They are soundscan figures , not my estimates, so trust me. I'm talking about pure album sales, physical and digital , streaming is not included . You can find them in many sites discussing charts, for example buzzjack or ukmix.

In other news the album will rise the charts in the next few weeks thanks to the AMA. Considering it sold 4,8k last week , I m predicting an increase of at least 50-60% for next week. But it could end up selling more.

From Rolling Stone - 50 best albums of 2016 (Green Day, Revolution Radio is listed as Number 14)

Article here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/50-best-albums-of-2016-w451265?page=4&count=10

This is what they say about Revolution Radio:

"Having completed the slightly improbable journey from Bay Area punkers to rock elder statesmen, Green Day decided to take on the state of the world on their 12th LP, which depicted the American psychosis with a slew of thundering tracks – and a few lighter ones, too, like delicate album closer "Ordinary World" and the steely yet triumphant "Still Breathing." Anchored by Mike Dirnt's bouncing-ball basslines and Tre Cool's frantic drumming, leader Billie Joe Armstrong tackles social ills and personal demons in taut songs that recall the band's early-21st-century high points, while adding just enough timeworn wisdom to reflect 2016's frayed state of the union. M.J."

I know tumblr is but a small corner of the internet (and population) but this blog ranks the popularity of artists and people in various categories. Green Day are number 2, and apparently weren't on the list last week.

(I got really excited by this and wasn't sure where to put it  )

That's surprising, the tumblr fandom doesn't seem very big.

I thought so too! But the AMA performance has really boosted their presence on the site; i initially thought it was just because I was following more GD blogs but the posts that are being reblogged have tens of thousands of notes, and they mostly concern the Trump chant.

Alright, time to update charts. SB is now:

#12 on the Alternative

#10 on the Airplay Rock

#7 on the Mainstream Rock

Still increasing.
