As many of you already said, the music industry of today is at least 2000 light years away from what it was in 2012, and especially 2004

I'm liking your post just for the reference to 2000 light years away

Sorry, but I sort of cringe when people on here refer to a Green Day album as a "special gift" as if it's a personal blessing from the Lord. I love the music, but nobody writes music just to please fans. Green Day isn't God.

Honestly I feel like more people are concerned with seeing the band live than buying the album. It's so easy to obtain music now. You can listen to the album on YouTube and people honestly only care about singles. It doesn't necessarily mean that because the album sales are poor that the band has lost all of its relevance. Fir example, Def Leppard's latest album barely cracked the top 10 and has probably sold less in the last year than what Green Day has done in a month. You're talking about a band who released the two biggest albums of the 80s and of course had huge success in the early 90s. Def Leppard has come to Salt Lake City 3 years in a row to a 20,000 capacity venue. SOLD OUT each time. In fact, they have sold out 5 times in a row at that same venue along with near sell outs in 2009 and 2007. It's honestly not that scary that the album is not selling that well. There is not a legit rock band that is selling assloads of albums anymore. On the other side of the music industry Green Day are selling out arenas still. The show I'm going to had sold out a few days after they went on sale to the public. So, "I wouldn't sweat it" and "bounce of the walls" over "poor" album sales.

I liked your post because it does make sense.  However, I will just point out that the album is selling pretty well for its genre and the current time in the record industry.  Adele is an anomaly.

Is there a God?

I really doubt it and even if there was a one, I bet he wouldn't make music at GD level.

Why should us as fans care how well they do in the charts? Just enjoy the damn music and good vibes from Green Day :runaround:

There's nothing wrong with wanting your favourite band to do well in the charts. Obviously, I enjoy the music no matter how well it does, but I'd like if it does well

I do (even too much). But if they do well I feel complete and I want to share the news with others (I think it's the reason why this thread exists, right?).

I'll enjoy their music no matter if they do well in the charts are not. However, I also think that GD would be also happy for their music to be exposed and liked by music fans in general.

I think it's just natural for fans to want them to be as successful as possible.

I agree. That's why I put poor in quotations. It is selling great for being a rock album and a band that actually uses instruments haha. The only artists that really sell albums anymore are people like Adele, Lady Gaga, Drake, and Taylor Swift. Which really sucks because all of these great new and old rock bands are getting overshadowed. Besides the Foo Fighters. All I can say is fuck fuck the Foo Fighters and fuck Dave Grohl.

The Foo Fighters actually don't sell that well either.  Their biggest selling album sold 1.9M.

I mean as far as any media coverage goes they are over explained by a lot. I think Sonoc Highways only sold like 300,000 after its first year or something like that. But my point is that if you did.a google search for the Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl this past summer you will find several articles. If you searched anything to do with Green Day or Billie Joe Armstrong before the album announcement you couldn't find anything that wasn't a few weeks old. Even now that Green Day isn't doing anything you aren't going to find too many articles. The Foo Fgihter are the Golden State Warriors of the music world. The media can't shut up about them.

I've been researching physics for decades trying to find an answer and there is still no conclusion as the whether there is a god or what form it might take. However, if one wanted to argue for the existence of a god, one could speculate that god created the laws of physics in our universe (among how many no one knows) which after 17 billion years ultimately led to the evolutions of Green Day to carry out god's desire for green day-quality music. Therefore, god =>laws of physics + 17 billion years = green day. Maybe this was hidden somewhere in Einstein's work.

Maybe this is the answer to the big question after all. Well done.

Rock bands need to step it up quality wise, old and new.

I want to hear Still Breathing on the radio so bad. It seems like every time I am driving, Bang Bang comes on. Obviously Still Breathing didn't get the build up that Bang Bang did in terms of release, but it is quickly catching up to Bang Bang in terms of views on YouTube. I wanna hear it on my radiooooooo ;)

Collective Soul 'See What You Started by Continuing' that was released last year is everything a rock album should be.

Yes, FF are good at advertising.

Of course, but you know how you hear 'Hey Jude' on the radio over and over again until you want to claw your eyes out and have a pencil kicked in you ear? Thats the Foo Fuckers. Or... Fighters. Sorry. Even when there is nothing to write or say anything about them people are still writing and saying things about them.

Nice to see confirmation at the end of the article that Still Breathing is the new single- maybe I've missed this elsewhere, but I hadn't seen it mentioned as the official #2 single. It'll do very well. I thought Bang Bang would do well but it's exceeded my expectations. I thought Still Breathing could potentially be huge- and we'll see. If promoted correctly I think it could be a monster single. My dad doesn't listen to the radio but he's a fan, and after buying the cd (cute, right?) he asked me how many weeks Still Breathing had been at #1, and was then shocked it hadn't been an official single yet.

Well, Bang Bang has done a great job on the charts and the music video of Still Breathing is coming out in a little (http://news.mtv.it/musica/green-day-scopri-video-still-breathing-in-esclusiva-mtv/).  Hopefully it will do even better than Bang Bang. Besides, a fantastic album with a lot of new beautiful songs was released just a month ago.

In other words: GD at their best.

So is there a way to see which charts Green Day is currently on? Like every week I go on Billboard and I always have to remember which charts to look at to see where Green Day is this week because Billboard shows the chart histories for ALL of their songs, and there is no tab for current charting songs. I hope that question made sense, I will elaborate more if necessary
