Hey Honest opinions guys, do u think they're promoting RevRad enough?

As long as they do a few late night shows and/or SNL once the album comes out, I think that's plenty of promo honestly. They're not Taylor Swift, they don't need to play on every show under the sun and land the cover of every magazine.

I think a key point is that Billie point blank said that during the beginning of the trilogy, they didn't say no to performance opportunities and he felt exhausted before it even started. Taking a more laid back approach is fine.

There's a bit of a gap between their shows in October, with one show on the 8th and the next show not happening until the 17th. The show on the 8th is in New York and the show on the 17th is in California. Now I don't know this for sure, but late night talk shows are filmed in New York and California, so maybe during this break is when they will be hitting talk shows and what not. It will be right after the album is released, so I could see it being likely

The Record. back in 09, the 21CB was everywhere commercials, late night shows etc, it's weird..i wanna see this album everywhere cuz IMO i think it's the Proper follow up to 21st CB, is it cuz it's a home made album with out the influence of a producer like Rob Covallo?

so what do people think has been lacking in promotion so far? they've already been in 2 issues of Kerrang and 2 issues of Rolling Stone, along with EW and another one or two mags, and they did that iHeart twitter takeover too. They've already released 2 songs, one of which has 2 videos and is charting really well. They're going to be in more magazines when it comes closer to the album release, and I'm sure they're finally going to start doing some live interviews and TV performances. They're probably waiting to perform new material on TV until they see how it does live with people who are already fans instead of testing it in front of a mass audience where they're trying to win over new fans or convince casual fans that the new album is worth buying. Their tour seems to have no problem selling tickets. I think things are moving right on track, sometimes you guys expect too much!

I agree with you, I think they're perfectly on track. They've been doing other fun social media things too, like Billie's Project Chimps contest and the scavenger hunt for tickets.

I really think the approach seems to be to reconnect with fans first, worry about new listeners after. Which I think is the right way to do it after such a long break.

It has to at least out sell the individual trilogy records.  Tre sold what, 43 copies and got downloaded by 8 people?   I'll be positive and say it sells more than all three combined!

Preorders, you could be right!   I hope it sells at least 1 million.   That would get them back to their 'average' success levels.   It's kind of fun to look at the numbers.   From 1039 to Dookie there was the build up to huge success.    Big drop after that, going from 30,000,000 down to 2,100,000 Insomniac albums, then they kept up the pace with Nimrod, selling nearly the same as Insomniac.  A 50% drop in sells for Warning and then of course their big come back with Idiot brought them back to a whopping 20,100,000!   Then back down to 1 million for Breakdown and then 383,000 copies for ALL THREE 2012 releases.

Other than 'those three', all their albums have done well.  The "declines" weren't really on bad albums, just albums that unfortunately came freaking masterpieces.   There was no way Insomniac was going to out perform Dookie.   There was no way Breakdown could have sold more than Idiot.   And the trilogy.....well......it was cursed from the beginning.

BANG BANG is doing well and this record has lots of great material to choose from.   Make some great videos, don't have too many touring set backs and I think it'll do just fine.

Dookie sold 30 million copies? Where did you find this information? As far as I knew, it had sold 20 million copies worldwide (10m in America), although it says 16m on Green Day Authority so I don't know

Dookie has sold 8.3 million in the US and American Idiot 6.4 million. Certifications concern shipments. It's very hard to say how much they sold worldwide though

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Day_discography#Studio_albums Here it says Dookie has sold 20m worldwide and 10m in the US. I know Wikipedia isn't exactly reliable but there are references there. Idk how reliable those references are though

Dookie has sold over 10M in the US and is certified Diamond.

Yes I know, but it's Nielsen Soundscan that tracks the real copies sold, and the amounts are the one I mentioned before. I can't provide you a reference at the moment, but you can easily find updated info about the two on ukmix.

RIAA is the database that does the actual certifications and that is what I sent you.  Soundscan DOES NOT do the certifications.  Dookie is certified Diamond.  I sent you the link that says it.

10x Platinum is diamond

I'll try to say it again.

A record can be certified in a certain way WITHOUT selling that amount because certifications are based on SHIPMENTS, not actual copies sold. IN FACT here https://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22680&start=4350 you can find some figures (probably there are others around, more updated, I can't find them now).

That being said, we were talking about copies sold and not certifications. No one ever doubted RIAA certifies records in the US. Hope it's clear now.

I hope this album does well. I was really expecting more promotion. This album has a chance to be big but Warner doesn't see it I guess. I hate how the hard working artists are overlooked.

RIAA measures shipments minus returns.  Soundscan did not include all vendors when it first began because of differences in tracking mechanisms.  For example Tower Records was not included.  That can account for the differences in recorded sales between Soundscan and  RIAA.  Either that or Billie has 1.7M copies of Dookie in his closet.

Green Day? A million copies? With this record? In 2016? That might be pushing it a bit lol

I'm sure that was the general consensus back before American Idiot came out as well.  A million would be nice, but I hear you.

Would be cool if it sold a crazy amount, like say 90,000,000.

How many members does GDA have?

To quote the front page: 56,888 Total Members

So there would need to be a few more.

I think the album could do it. It's stronger than The Trilogy just from the bit that I've heard. It's just a straight album, no gimmick in any way. (Not a rock opera or set.) This could be it, and I would like it to be.

I have one on order because there aren't a billion, slight exaggeration, different variants. With the five I think different ones for 21CB I couldn't do another like that.

I've got the book on on order and I'm running out October 7th and grabbing the standard one.   :)
