Maddie86
So GD is playing NYC on October 8th, a saturday. I doubt that they could do SNL that night unless they made the club gig end super early because SNL does a dress rehearsal before the regular broadcast. I kinda wish they did the NYC date during the week and then they could have performed on a talk show that was recorded during the day. their LA date is on a monday, so I wonder if they'll record a TV performance before the gig. or maybe they could stop in NYC on their day off on friday Sept 30th for a tv show. their DC gig is on a monday, then they don't have any other gigs booked until saturday in NYC, maybe they'll do some stuff during the week then. I know i'm rambling, but my point is that I wanna see some GD interviews and live performances on TV!

Sixtrix
Still early to say anything about it, but 3FM just played the song Revolution Radio and just like with Bang Bang they gave a very positive respons to the song. Haven't heard them being this positive about Green Day since 21st Century Breakdown when Last of The American Girls was released as a single. I wish they would play it on the radio around here, too. I'm still a little bit worried about the RevRad promotion, I'm just afraid that a great album is coming and the world doesn't even notice. Maybe I'm only feeling like this because the triology-promotion was really HUGE, there were TV-spots announcing Uno and I heard Oh Love on the radio several times. And this time there's almost nothing. Everytime I tell someone that GD have a new single and an album coming up, people just say: "What? They still exist?" That's so annoying.... Even on social media it's gotten very quiet lately. I just hope it's the quiet before the storm, though. On the other hand, I really do like the more intimate way of putting out this record instead of screaming it into everyone's face like some other bands do. Hm, I don't know... I like the fact that they've decided to let the music speak for itself so far. If the album is good enough, people will pick up on it. It might take a little while longer, but I'm fine with that

People are not going to pick up on something if they don't know it exists. Many people don't listen to the radio often or watch videos, etc. They hear about songs or movies or books, etc from watching them or seeing them performed. If they are not doing any promos, it is unlikely that a casual listener will hear it. I think Revolution Radio has the potential to chart well, but if it isn't being shown to people that don't frequent alt stations, or rock stations or read Rolling STone magazine, they won't know it is there. Hopefully they will start to promote it more once the album is out.

I simply meant that it's not necessary to go crazy with the promotion like they did with the trilogy. Releasing singles for the radio stations to play, and appearing at some late shows and doing a few interviews I would say is the standard, "low-key" way of doing it. And I still believe that a song will catch on and become popular eventually if the song is proper hit song material Whether or not that applies to any of the songs on the album is a different matter

However, I feel that the promotion for this album has not been low-key, but virtually non-existant. I don't think they have done promotions that will bring the album or singles to the attention to the casual listener, other than the various magazine articles. I work in marketing and I know that it is much harder to regain momentum then to maintain it. I feel like this promotion has been like a roller coaster. We get something, then nothing for days. I'm sure they have a strategy, I just don't know what it is.
greenalert997x
Yeah something goes wrong with the promotion. Every one of us has complained about trilogy promotion but now it's even worse, no interviews, no shows, no photo shoot - except several for magazines. Sadly, people think they no longer exist after 21st CB era, people still remember 21 Guns nnd KYE and don't even know that Green Day is putting out a new album called Revolution Radio Unfortunately, fans only know about new album and I don't think Green Day is gonna gain new fans in this way, without powerful promotion. It's hard to tell why they don't care about promotion ??? Either they want to be punk as fuck or they're rich enough XD The comforting thing is that Bang Bang has 5,3 milion views and it's comparatively good. Oh Love lyric video has 7,8 milion views for 4 years. I'll get upset if they uploaded BB official video to fb at first and then to yt. They lose a lot of views :/ And lastly, the main thing is a solid album. I must admit that I acquired the taste for revrad and the vocal filter doesn't annoy me so much as I wrote at the very beginning

But I guess we don't. If that was the case, there wouldn't bee so much crap on the radio and so much good music that no one notices. It's just too much, especially in times of Spotify and co, people don't notice without promotion. I hope @Scattered Wreck is right and they do have a strategy that we just didn't understand yet. But maybe they fired all of their marketing- and PR-guys and do it all by themselves. That would be a punk way to do this, and at the moment, it seems like it... ;-p
Misterglasshalfempty
I think they're gonna step up the promotion as we get closer to the album release. As far as I've understood there are some non-tour dates coming up, right? I think it's easy for everyone here to get impatient as we follow the band closely from day to day, but to the casual listener it really doesn't make a huge difference if they ramp up the promotion now or in three weeks. They've just put out two fairly solid singles, and Bang Bang has done quite well so far. I'm not worried yet.

stories and songs
With the musical climate we're in right now, this music won't do amazing no matter what, even if it's the best music they've ever put out, even if they promote the hell out of it. Green Day doesn't fit in with the fast majority of pop radio stations these days. American Idiot was an INCREDIBLE album, but also fortunately released when rock was hitting a peak, which no doubt gave it an additional push. I think RevRad has the potential to do phenomenal among rock fans, but I don't see a wider audience getting into them right now. Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't see this kind of music being spotlighted at the moment. But if any rock band could pierce through the layers of crap the music industry is dealing with right now, it'd be these guys, of course. All they need to do are a couple late night shows and a select few print interviews—something like Entertainment Weekly that will hit a wide range of readers. But I think it's important that they're saying no things—an issue with the Trilogy promotion (at first) was that it seemed like they didn't say no to ANYTHING and ended up doing a string of strange things for promo (like having songs on CSI—that was weird). At this point, they know what they're after, and that may not be a swath of new fans. After everything that happened, and such a long break in between albums, it seems like their first priority was just getting back in touch with fans, which I think is incredibly important. Chin for a Day
I don't think the video had anything to do with the charts this week, it came out yesterday and the charts are reflective of last week. Hopefully, the video will give it the boost to move higher next week.
