Revolution Radio Promotion and Commercial Performance

What did I miss? I thought the song was doing very well on the charts. Did it drop or something?

It is #1 on the Rock Mainstream chart, which is just simply airplay.  That is good.  But it dropped from #8 to #16 on The Top Rock songs, which tracks airplay, sales and streaming.  Honeslty, not sure what that means.  It could mean nothing, it could mean something.  It indicates that the sales and streaming don't match the airplay.   I think we will have to wait and see.  It could be that the sales have not caught up with the increased airplay or that the sales will pick up when the album or video come out.  We were just speculating that maybe the lack of promotion is affecting it.

I feel like once the music video drops it will do much better. But I'm not too concerned about it.

I hope, it just seemed like an anomaly that we were discussing.  As usual, it turned from a discussion to blown out of proportion.

I like how secretive the release of this album has been. They don't try to hype things too much. However, I really think they should drop another single in September. Nowadays most record companies release almost half of the record before its release date in order to keep people interested. I don't like that strategy in particular, but I think at least one more song is needed in order for this release to stay relevant.

Me too, but I can't imagine how it looked like when it was so overused that Andres had to impose a ban. It must have been *insert the phrase*

Didn't know exactly which thread to post this in, but this one seems like the closest for this information. Just now on ALT 98.7, Green Day was on an iHeartRadio festival commercial. Billie Joe introduced the band as Green Day, and then Tre Cool talked about how amazing the festival is, bringing many artists together. Good to see everyone getting along. Highly unlikely since they're playing in Canada on September 23rd, but I wonder if Green Day will make a surprise appearance at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas on September 24th.

Didn't someone post about them coming to iheart towards the end of September. It was in the iheart Twitter thread.

Count me as someone who is encouraged by the song's performance so far- from day one, I loved it and at the same time was saying that this wouldn't be the precursor to the next AI. It's just not going to happen here, so no one should expect this album to drop at the top of the charts and all of the singles to enter near the top, either.

It's a hard, aggressive song which has done really well on the charts given the current music landscape and the fact that it wasn't a catchy ballad designed to be a surefire hit. And that's ok- this is a solid, rockin song that will be appreciated by a group of longtime fans and a moderately larger rock audience. It has no crossover appeal, but that's actually great as far as I'm concerned- I was hoping for this type of song and pleasantly surprised it wasn't a slower paced/ radio friendly entry.

The album itself will do fine- it won't light the world on fire like AI but at the same time from what we've read we know it's a solid offering. In all likelihood are going to be some songs that will become all time GD classics. They will tour, and the tour will do really well and we'll all have a great time.

Overall this is a huge win and great step forward for the band and for us fans. After all, I feel lucky every day knowing I could have easily grown up with STP or Oasis as my favorite bands since they were from the same era and I liked them almost (strong emphasis on almost) as much. And what are they doing now?

I'm grateful that this is my band. That it's our band. And it's going to be a great 12-24 months with this album and the following tour. Great time to be alive as a GD fan!

Remember before American Idiot came out and Green Day did those live performances of Holiday on some tv shows?    Those were awesome and they should do something like that this time around too.

^ That's amazing!!!

You know, as much as I'd like to see them, I really don't mind if they don't do many promotional stops this time. I'm a worrier and I don't want them to push themselves to far. If they just want to promote through touring and doing stuff on social media, that's fine by me. Nothing wrong with a more quiet, intimate album release.

Their Facebook live video was the greatest thing in the universe and I would be perfectly content if that's all they did to promote 😜

Well, if the ticketing experience of the last few days was any indication, I have no worries about the commercial success of the band. It took a monumental effort to get a couple tickets in presale in Boston (I was the only one of about a half dozen friends that had any success, and I didn't get tickets for about 2 hours). No one succeeded during general sale, and I had friends in DC and NY that were trying like mad. These were the toughest tickets I can remember. Clearly there's huge demand...not too worried about chart positions at this point, they clearly have a huge following and always will.

It's weird that this has come up not long after mikes Instagram.

So, are you thinking it is a done deal?  That would be nice.
