According to EW, Say Goodbye is going to be the 'hyperpolitical' song on this album. Given that we already know that the title track is going to be political too, I assume Say Goodbye will be something in the vein of Holiday.

That's interesting; I've been thinking of 'Say Goodbye' as a potential lost-love song (blame the Trilogy :p) but now I can see it as a "you're going down" kinda phrase.

With a new GD album out next month and this being the month of September, unfortunately, I think there will probably be more wake Billie up when September ends jokes

I literally can't stand those jokes. Unfunny and old as fuck.

Apparently Youngblood is 'the' love song. There are still many songs we don't know anything about. Forever Now could easily be a love song, an epic like 21 Guns.

Actually, they are considered critical and commercial failures.  They are the only albums they have produced that are not certified gold or platinum.  Even 1039 is certified gold and Kerplunk is certified platinum.  The reviews were OK at best.  While many bands would be thrilled with the reviews and sales of the trilogy, for a band like GD, they were a commercial failure.

I personally love them, but I cannot ignore the numbers.

Uno might not have been certified gold here, but it was in 7 other countries. And I'm just saying, according to the average professional critic, they all had positive reviews (overall).

The Trilogy might not have sold 'millions' of albums like AI and 21CB, but I'm sure between the 3 of them they are at the million mark, and will continue to sell as they tour and make more albums. It's obviously not as good as previous albums, and maybe below expectations, but I can't see how any one could measure that as a 'failure' lol. I guess it's just my perception of it, I dunno.

Sometimes I think these people writing articles on Revolution Radio have no idea what they are talking about, and just going by what they've 'heard' rather than actual fact.

Uno, Dos and Tre all have Favorable/Positive reviews (over 60%) on wickopedia based on an average of over 20 reviews each. Uno debuted #1 in 5 countries and top 5-10 in over 20 countries and also was a gold album in 7 countries.  Dos debuted in the top 10 in over 10 countries and Tre in the top 20 in almost 10 countries. They didn't live up to their past album sales, probably largely because of Billie's health and not being able to tour, but these are not critical and commercial 'letdowns/failures'.

Sometimes I wonder how these journalists have jobs when they don't do research and have no idea what they're talking about 🤔

y'all are just salty/in denial. The trilogy missed the mark, as confirmed now by commercial sales, critical reviews (check their other album ratings and reviews vs any one album from the trilogy), a wave of music media declaring this a "comeback" album and all panning the trilogy in the same stroke (Do you have to make a comeback if you're last albums were really all that?), and finally a confirmation from Billie himself.

Guess what I (and most other critics of the trilogy) thought was missing from the trilogy (to name a few):

Guitars

Drums

Mike-Billie Harmonies

Specific and inspired lyricism

What did the band do:

Added HUGE guitars, HUGE drums, the hook of the lead single absolutely leans on those harmonies, and the lyrics are incredibly specific and void of the vagueness that riddled a lot of the trilogy. It's almost like the band agreed, eh? Stop trying to save this ship :P

Still don't quite understand why this thing is dropping so far out in advance. Honestly feels like it should release sometime in the middle of the month (which, technically, it might if it ends up leaking a couple of weeks before the official release date).

I'm sure that when they said Youngblood was a love song they didn't meant that it was a song like Last Night on Earth or 80.

Probably by love they meant love to their hometown and being proud about it, since apparently the song is about Oakland (Fuck, you I'm from Oakland!).

I wonder if the "Fuck you, I'm from Oakland" thing refers to Billie and 80 first meeting. Something to do with the Oakland vs. San Francisco rivalry.

edit: That sounds vague. Like, they're getting to know one another and he says he's from the Bay Area. She says SF, he says fuck you, I'm from ... in a flirty, playful way. I don't know. Just throwing stuff at the wall.

Have they mentioned that Youngblood is a love song outside of the Twitter Q&A? Wondering if they were joking since they weren't serious for most of that. If not I think it'll definitely be more a "love" song for their youth/hometown rather than about a girl, but then it's Green Day so who knows :P

That's a cool take on it, but I figured when they said it was a love song they meant a love song for Oakland. I guess they could have been being pedantic on Twitter; it's not necessarily a romantic love song, but technically still a love song.

Youngblood is currently the only "explicit" track on the album, I wonder if that F you, I'm from Oakland" is the only F-bomb on the whole album or if their are more.  You never know on a Green Day album.

Some have very little cursing (1039, Kerplunk, Warning, Tre),

some have just the right amount (American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Dos)

While others have lots of expletives (Uno, Nimrod, Dookie)

I won't go into ALL the stats I have, but Uno is their dirtiest mouthed album to date, followed by Nimrod.

You could be right; this is nothing but speculation on my part. And if there's one thing GDC is good at... :)

I'm a total stats nerd; you should make a blog or something with your lists and stats. I honestly find it really interesting!

I have a PowerPoint for Green Day.   Perhaps I'll share it one day.

Wasn't Adrienne from Minneapolis?

If Youngblood is indeed a love song about Oakland, I'm expecting it to be similar to this:

As in, he says Bay Area, she guesses he's from San Francisco. Yes I know she's his Minnesota girl.

In concept.  It's impossible to tell if it will be at all lyrically or musically similar, but I'd expect it to be very conceptually similar.

Yeah, sorry, it's a stretch.  I seriously can't see him caring about that 25 years later.

What JJ1964 said.

Also, why would he guessed that and, even if he did, why would he just say "Fuck you, I'm from Oakland!" to someone he just met (assuming he just met her since he doesn't actually knows where's she from), what a way of making friends hahah.

I didn't say Billie guessed at anything. Jesus, sorry I mentioned it.
