Also want to point out the real last time they self produced (with Chris Dugan, too) was Foxboro Hot Tubs and that album sounds fantastic.

I can't wrap my head around how some people are upset with the album cover. AI's cover is literally just a crude white hand holding a heart shaped grenade. Yeah I realize it has meaning, but so does a fucking radio on fire. I think the revrad cover is sick, while maintaining a nice element of simplicity. It still also provokes thought. And yeah fuck the guy who wrote this : http://www.spin.com/2016/08/green-day-revolution-radio-album-cover-terrible/?utm_source=spinfacebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=spinfacebook

Just sounds like a biased little shit-head who would likely complain about having to tie their own shoes in the morning.

I'm not a big fan of the cover either, I was hoping (and expecting) something more graffiti style, like the Bang Bang single art. I actually like that one more than the album cover

It's hard to make a better album cover when Dookie is already out there.

Well yeah Dookie is an all-time great album cover. Insomniac is also super cool, and AI had a simplistic, iconic look to it. We're not looking for something to beat all others, but just nice to look at.

Random observation (don't know if it's been mentioned already): Youngblood is the sole track marked 'explicit' on iTunes.

Is a bit of a change from the last albums! But there's really a lot of Green Day songs that don't have swearing, many more don't than do (I know this from listening with my nephew haha). And a song can be explicit and say extreme things without actual swear words.

AI's hand holding a heart shaped grenade is really clever imagery though. It's an imaginative representation of how the political/war themes of the album interact with the personal themes, summed up in a stylish and memorable symbol. Revolution Radio's in just an overly simple literal representation of the title, there's no nuance to it and it isn't stylish. The equivalent would be for AI's cover to feature a man in an American flag t shirt acting like an idiot.

I'm not upset about it, it looks alright and does accurately represent the title. But it just isn't very interesting or creative. Looks more like something that should be on a random page of the album booklet.

This might be branching into Trilogy discussion, but I think what makes Bang Bang stand out over the Trilogy is that it feels like a complete song. It works on multiple levels and gives you reasons to listen again and think about what it has to say. While a good amount of Trilogy songs were good, they often felt unfinished. A lot of Trilogy songs left you saying "that was okay" but never gave you a reason to listen again. "Missing You" is catchy as fuck, but what about it is memorable or unique? "X-Kid," "Nuclear Family," "Stay the Night" etc elicit the same reaction. "Cool, but so what?" I don't know if Bang Bang is "better" bc the sounds are so different, but it certainly has more of an impact.

I don't get any of that with Bang Bang. I got the good feeling when I heard Ordinary World.

Gives a fuck?!?!

god damnit I'm so sick of hearing about Green Day and whether or not they are fucking punk (and I've never even heard medal!! Green Day never has been or will be a shit medal band).

ive been hearing that shit since I was a kid in 94.

who gives a flying fuck how punk their album cover looks? Maybe you prefer the Art Deco of the trill?

im sorry to pick on you, as I'm sure you're sweet and awesome but you pressed a button and especially as I'm sitting here just so god damn happy that Bang Bang sounds so good and getting better with each listen.

they could put a big pile of shit on the album cover and I would buy it up because these three men are the only modern rock stars still making quality music.

besides, I like the radio. Also it's sort of in the title.

Billie Joe got the idea for the title revolution radio while protesting Michael Brown in New York. I believe the undertone is that through music and unity, we can maybe find some harmony through music.

Hence the radio and the revolution. So the radio sort of fits the motif. They haven't been trying to satisfy the Oakland neo-punk movement since 1993 and they sure as god damn fuck aren't now but they are the best rock and roll band on this entire planet so who gives a fuck how punk the album cover is?

sorry. Off soapbox.

Chill. My point was that it doesn't look like a metal album cover to me. Someone commented that it looked like a cheesy metal album cover, so I said that no "faux-edgy metal band" (no, I don't think that GD are trying to be edgy or some shit for the sake of it. I may disagree with what they believe politically, but I don't doubt their sincerity) would put something as dated and "un-metal" as a radio on the album cover. I actually happen to like the cover, and I don't give a flying shit about how "punk" something is either.

EDIT: There are plenty of other modern rock stars who are also still making quality music. But that's just a matter of opinion.

I have to chuckle every time I think of the fact that titles of two new tracks are Trilogy lyrics.

Quite a lot of the song titles are lyrics from previous songs, which is a bit odd but quite cool!

Bang Bang and Outlaws are lyrics from Holiday
Troubled Times are lyrics from Hitchin' a Ride and 99 Revolutions
Too Dumb to Die are lyrics from Sex, Drugs & Violence

I think that's all

It's interesting, and I wonder if there will be a progression in meaning  from the trilogy songs to the new songs, as if they are "mini-sequels", or if those titles are just arbitrary choices because he like the way they sound?

Also, I can't wait to hear what they do with Ordinary World. To our ears when my husband and I saw him perform this at the Geezer Premiere, it felt like it was a very new song, almost unfinished even. Usually the structure of his songs are excellent but Ordinary World felt like it needed a Bridge and another chorus or something like that. I wonder if he's going to leave it the way we heard it or if it's more fleshed out. I love the song, though. Really nice  melody.  I think if the album is as serious as it sounds like it's going to be, Ordinary World is going to be a beautiful ending.

The tracklist makes me wonder if "Somewhere Now" and "Forever Now" are somehow related.

Actually now that I think about it 'Say goodbye' is a lyric from 8th Avenue Serenade too

Ordinary World could sound great with an added single violin and maybe an acoustic bridge. Or just piano. That'd be beautiful i think.

It is! It makes me wonder if some of those are different takes on ideas from previous songs, especially those that seem to be named that way intentionally. The connection between Bang Bang and Holiday is vague, they might not have considered it at all but things like "Too Dumb To Die " seem to be named that way on purpose. This line is in several trilogy songs so it might be an elaboration of the idea.

Well, they have done 12 studio albums. They must've been struggling to think of song titles ;)

I concur with those that want to hear the piano on this album
