Let’s Take a Moment to Appreciate How Terrible This Green Day Album Cover Is

Title's not really helping, either

http://www.spin.com/2016/08/green-day-revolution-radio-album-cover-terrible/

Maybe this cover it's not one of the best, but the AI cover wasn't very special either. If we look at it from a different point of view, we'll realize it's just a simple drawing of a hand holding a heart shaped grenade. And it only has three colors: black, white and red. Still, it became an icon!! I think this cover with the radio on fire will grow on us.

Now, I don't understand why people keep thinking that if the cover is bad the songs will be too. Again, the AI cover wasn't that incredible but that album had some of the most beautiful songs Green Day could make. (Yeah Seagull, I know you disagree)

This is wrong. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Yeah the cover is a bit generic but it has literally no bearing on how good the songs will be

I see they uploaded the video on the youtube channel.
Well done, that way the song will get more views and its better for the band.

Also, the lyric video could be the official video, its one of the best Lyric videos i've seen in years.

I know right, it's so good! I've been hoping they'll be on point with videos for this album, as videos are so big at the moment and so many creative and ambitious ones are being made. To have put so much effort just into a lyric video is definitely a good start.

The AI cover isn't very special because it's simple and only has 3 colors?! That's the reason that it is special :D

I know, I love it. I was just saying it's a simple cover just like the new one, so we shouldn't judge :)

Yeah, it's really not a good cover at all. Like I said before, it looks like the cover to a cheesey overproduced metal album. It's awful.

The American Idiot cover is far better than this. The fact that you're even insinuating that they're on an even playing field might suggest you being kind of tone deaf to this situation. The American Idiot cover is provocative and has an actual style to it. It's creative. It's not what you would immediately think of when you hear the title American Idiot.

This cover isn't.

It's the lowest common denominator thing they could've possibly come up with given the title. It looks so cheap and lazy that I can't even believe they thought it was acceptable. It's the most faux-edgy cover I've seen in awhile.

They could have taken a screenshot of the Bang Bang lyric video at any point and it would've been a better cover than this. Hell, make this cover the Bang Bang cover art and make the Bang Bang single cover the album cover, just change the background text to Rev Rad or Revolution Radio.

I was just reading comments on social media and It makes me sad. I remember when trilogy was announced everybody was exited for Green Day's new album. They were still kinda somewhere near mainstream. This time every second person is saying something like "didn't know they were still alive" or something like that. And most of the articles don't hesitate to metntion that Green Day are no longer in the mainstream and shouldn't even matter anymore. The reviews are good though and people really like the song and most of them agree that it's better than trilogy (well, most of them don't know trilogy exists). But still, I feel that it will be incredibly hard for Green Day to gain mainstream attention again no matter how good the album is. I will hope for the best though

Yeah its sad. They never should've released 3 albums straight. If they would've released just one album and took the best bits of the trilogy it would've sold better and they'd still kinda be in the mainstream. I mean Oh Love did really well commercially before the release of trilogy. But I'm also optimistic in a way cause if a band can commercially fall so drastically just because of one release, why couldn't they rise the same way? I mean lets not forget about American Idiot after the commercial flop Warning.

No I agree (except production wise). It's just that it was bad marketing wise to release 3 albums at the same time, since you'd have to pay like 60 dollars to get em all but you didn't want to own just one of them cause it would be uncomplete. That seriosly hold me back on buying those Records and I believe it did others too.

The trilogy didn't failed because it was three albums, it failed because of the non existant promotion after Billie Joe's meltdown at iHeart Radio.

And... no, they shouldn't have done a single album with the "best bits", everyone has different "favourite songs" off the trilogy so it was better to just release everything they had.

The trilogy probably was what they need to release at that point of their career; that's why I'm excited for Revolution Radio.. even with Bang Bang out, we don't really now what to expect.

they failed cause mostly of Billie's absent some on the promo but the label can't be blamed for that fully and foolish to do that

and to be fair if the trilogy was one album we wouldn't know about the other songs we know they did about 80 songs for the trilogy we don't know what the other 43 songs sounds like just like we don't know the 42 songs that weren't used for 21stCB sound like if the trilogy was just a single album nothing would change

i couldnt stand when Green Day added eyeliner to their image. i say keep the goofy laid back image. I never cared that much for eyeliner unless it is very little and not overdone to stand out.

I love the title "revolution radio" and I hope this will be a punk rock album... Anyways, Frank Maddocks used the hashtags "punk" and "punkrock" in the instagram photo of the bang bang logo. But I am both worried and excited about it, and I guess I will be nervous until I have heard the entire album. I also prefer Green Day without eyeliner and with their "regular"  clothes...like they used to be before AI

I cant remember them doing it on a regular basis,  I respect them...but I would prefer them not to be "styled"  if you know what I mean. Just my personal preferance :-)

Dyeing your hair blue and wearing cool punky outfits is being "styled" too. They've always had a look that was fashionable at the time (wacky hair colours in 94, gelled spiked hair in 97, logo tees and shorts in 2000, black and red outfits with eyeliner in 2004 - all trendy looks). Obviously everyone can have their personal preference for what looks best on them but they've always had an "image" based on the fashion of the time, their own taste and wanting to present the band with a certain look.

I really hope this album ends up more consistent than the trilogy and 21st CB. The fact that Billie described it as "lush" hopefully points to the fact that the songs will feel more developed and fleshed out than the songs on the trilogy, which almost universally felt bare-bones and written/arranged in such a way that they could be recorded as quickly as possible so they could move on to the next one.

Also hoping for a little more piano on this record. And not just on the slower tracks, but also on the faster ones.

It might be too early to think about this, but I hope that the next tour's production is more impressive than the last one's . I know that Green Day doesn't need the world's biggest production to pull off an amazing show, but still it would be nice to have something else than just a light show.

When do we think the pre-orders from the GD store will arrive?  On release day?  I ordered the red vinyl.  Can't wait!
