Can't be more cheesy than The Forgotten. With the Twilight video no less.

Yes.

If it ends up being like The Forgotten, I'm all fine with it. I think Last Night on Earth is way more cheesy and I don't really like it for that reason.

I think if you compare the trilogy (which could maybe be classed as pop-punk) to the new song, you sorta get why Billie Joe talked about killing pop-punk. I liked the trilogy but maybe that's what he meant by that? Like, blowing the trilogy (and its lighter sound) out of the water.

Or maybe he was just talking shit and didn't even really know what he meant himself

He said "the phrase pop punk", might just not be keen on the phrase

True, but I guess it's the same idea! Making the album heavier mean people won't use the phrase :P or he hopes anyway!

Well they are destroying pop punk with their new sound. I mean that Bad Religion-ish sound of "Bang Bang" took the term pop punk, sliced it with a machette and brutally murdered it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing hints of Bad Religion in the sound of the song. It's incredible how they can make a song sound so fresh after writing so many songs.

Can someone from Germany tell me if Amazon.de accepts COD-Cash on delivery for shipments outside Germany. Since NOFX, Sum 41 and GD release the album on the same day I might even get the free shipping :P

To me, it sounds similar to Bad Religion's song "Suffer" :) I can also hear some NOFX in it too!

Now that you mention it, the "Daddy's little psycho and mommy's little soldier" part does sound a bit like "The masses of humanity have always had to suffer"

I've heard some people say the guitar riff sounds like Territorial Pissings by Nirvana.

I also think it could've fit on the trilogy (could easily see it somewhere with Dirty Rotten Bastards and 99 Revolutions). But I don't see that as a bad thing at all and love it :D. I can see it's going to be different overall, there's some hints at it on a few of the trilogy songs but there's obviously going to be a much bigger political/protest theme rather than a personal mid life crisis/party theme and different production. But it does seem like something of a continuation rather than a totally brand new direction.

Totally! It may not be a bad thing at all. It just seems to be a continuation of the previous era, in some regards. The rest of the album has yet to be heard.

This question's for the people who have listened to the recorded version of "Ordinary World" for Geezer. How does it sound? Would it fit in Revolution Radio (or in general in a Green Day album, since we've only heard one song) or did it need to be recorded again in your opinion? I know it's quite hard to tell, but I'd love to read what your opinions of the recorded song are.

I'm guessing the store won't bother emailing me back until the download becomes active and by that time their reply won't matter anyway.

So I finally got the download link for Bang Bang this morning at 10:30am . Customer service at Warner did not email me back until 1:00pm. So exactly as I thought they did not bother responding until it did not matter anyway and they completely avoided the issue.

They said I should check my spam folder, apologied for the inconvenience, it was a load of bollox really, just a generic email.

I would imagine that they have re-recorded it, and added some embellishments.  Maybe some strings or horns, etc.  I was at the Geezer premier and I was actually surprised to see it on the album.  The way Billie introduced it, I got the distinct impression he wasn't thrilled with it.

Anyway, from what we have heard, I think this may be the perfect end to the album.  The album is supposed to be a collection of songs about the state of the world.  How much better can it be to end with a song that talks about how the little things in life are what is important.

This is so beautiful. I'm looking forward to listening to the whole thing even more now!

I wonder what kind of deal WB made with Facebook to keep the first single out of YouTube. I imagine this is a 24 hours exclusive or something like that... do you know any precedent?

It could be they are saving the official video for YouTube

mmmmm... since YouTube views are nowadays used to calculate charts and stuff like that it still makes no sense to me, if there isn't an exclusivity deal. But I may be wrong, maybe it's just an unusual strategy.

I was thinking, maybe by directing everyone to their Facebook page they're trying to get more people to like their page and follow them on social media in general. I suppose if this is in fact a strategy, it's one to embrace the social media and use that as marketing. Hopefully it'll be on YouTube eventually though, that would make the song easier to share with friends.

Yes, that's a good point, using more platforms is useful to broaden the public, but probably keeping it on Facebook you create a different positive effect.

This is thinking way down the road, but I wonder if we will get any sort of special release on Black Friday's Record Store Day this year. Maybe some demos. B-sides, or even just a 45 of Bang Bang.

Maybe I've been living under a rock but is it a "new" thing now to release a single and then when they release it they announce the album. Alot of my favorite bands are doing that now. I could have sworn a few years ago (even in green day world) we had details about the album first and then get the first single a few weeks/months later?
