How does one go about liking Forever Now but not Somewhere Now? :P They're a killer combo surely?

Somewhere Now just bores me. It starts off slow and then speeds up, but doesn't reach the peak it's trying to hit...for me.

Fair enough (although for me it does reach the peak fortunately, at the "hallelujah I found my soul under the sofa pillows" part). But either way I think together they're greater than the sum of their parts, having Somewhere Now there first makes Forever Now much more of a climax of the album.

The first time I ever heard the beginning of it I thought 'omg what are green day doing, this is gonna be a disaster'.  Thankfully, it just about picked up quickly enough for me, and I don't personally find that it's missed the climax - though that's probably the most clear reason why others could find the song dull.

One of my favourite things about the album is the 'ever get so dull' --> 'ever get so full' switch.  They may not have made a concept album (unless you ask @thatdude03 :P), but they just can't help themselves from referencing other songs on the album.

I also prefer Forever Now over Somewhere now, but none of them is among my favorite songs.

Somewhere Now complements Forever Now nicely. In my opinion, they're inseparable and form the spine of the album. Somewhere Now is Billie waking up from his personal nightmare to find the world in shambles, whilst Forever Now is the recap of the past two years, ending with Billie feeling settled and leaving the past behind, including the post-AI era.

I preferred Somewhere Now over Forever Now for a while because of its simplicity and it's so fun to sing along to. But I've been listening to Forever Now a lot more lately and now I can't decide :tired: but who says I even have to! :D

Do you have some favorites except for Still Breathing now?

Man calm down :lol: I know there's hardly a song on the radio that wouldn't be similar to another one. No news really. We were just discussing it right? :D And I don't mind it at all, I love that song.

I have, um, anger issues.  My childhood was torn from me - but that's for my therapist.. therapist ...the rapis*  I'll take a xanax now.  Love ya!  And yes you are right =)

For what it's worth, I think every song on the album can be a number one single for any other band in this genre.  Somewhere Now and Forever Now are Grammy worthy imo, along with Still Breathing and Bang Bang.  Good job GD.  I know you read my posts.

I still like Revolution Radio and Bang Bang and I think these two and Still Breathing are the best songs on the album. Troubled Times is pretty good because of the dark atmosphere and I also like Bouncing off the Wall, but they don't compare to songs from AI or 21st CB.

I honestly took Troubled Times off my phone. I can usually listen to the entire album in one sitting when I am bored, but whenever that song comes on it kills my mood. I can't stand it

I'm actually going to do the same. After initially listening to the entire album, I just skip it now. It's not a terrible song, but I think it's the weakest on RevRad.

Troubled Times is my favorite on the album.  It was from the beginning and still is, even though every song except the song that shall not be named has tried to make a run at the top from time to time

Not exactly my favorite but I definitely don't understand the dislike it generally gets. It's very good musically.

I don't get the hate either because I think it has a lot of emotion. Some criticize it for the lack of a real chorus, but I think that's what makes the song special. It speaks without too many words. The way Billie sings - like he is really afraid that the world we know and love is falling apart - is giving me the chills each and every time. Maybe also because it has a special meaning with the attacks in France, but also with the state of Europe in general (I wrote that in another thread somewhere already). It has something frightful, almost apocalyptic. I would love to hear it live.

Ugh, it's so hard to rank the songs. I will probably change my mind again tomorrow, but for now this is the order that I'd rank the songs in:

* Still Breathing

* Bang Bang

* Say Goodbye

* Somewhere Now, Bouncing Off the Wall, Ordinary World

* Too Dumb to Die, Revolution Radio, Forever Now

* Troubled Times, Outlaws

* Youngblood

This album made me very happy :) I didn't like The Trilogy that much at all. 21st Century Breakdown had some gems but lackluster in my opinion but this album is the best since American Idiot in my opinion.

Spent the last week or so listening to this on repeat

I've seen people talk about the weird transition between Bouncing and Still Breathing and I have a theory about it and the album

I think the band wants people to listen to this album on vinyl hence why the vinyl was cheaper than the cd (if you purchased from the GD store the vinyl was 20 while the cd was 24) they even brought the vinyl to the tonight show on the vinyl bouncing off the wall is the last song on side a ending in a fast and chaotic way where still breathing opens softly on side b and then explodes just my theory

I agree, it's concise and straightforward but effective. I like how they left more room for the music itself - that's what gives it that apocalyptic feel. It's like there's nothing more to say, that describes the feeling very well.

After listening to American idiot (the song) and holiday its made me realise, I wish rev rads political songs took more of a stance and stood up for something. The former tracks are just badass and basically are,'fuck yous' to the establishment, media, corruption in the government etc. Something you can really rally behind.

Rev rads tracks, which I really enjoy btw are more commentary as opposed to standing for anything. Not that its a bad thing but I kinda miss that burning passion and anti corruption stance billie took. Also the anti trump thing, doesn't Billie realise both candidates are incredibly flawed?? It's not one sided.

I think the commentary approach of revrad is the logical evolution of AI and 21CB, the latter was already leaning in that direction. Also, it would come off as trying a little too hard if they took an angry, "fuck you" stance.

Clinton is by no means an ideal candidate but at least she's not as ridiculous, racist and sexist as Trump. She wouldn't be my candidate of choice but at this point there's not much of a choice. I don't think Billie doesn't see she's flawed, he was a Bernie supporter in the beginning after all. He doesn't seem to be all that excited about Hilary, he just hates Trump more.

This makes a lot of sense.  Despite having not listened to my vinyl yet either (waiting to return), I get the feeling that the album may have been produced for vinyl too.  I just wish they'd quality controlled more effectively :(

If you notice, Billie has always said two things where the election is concerned, 1. Vote 2. Don't Vote Trump.  He has NEVER said vote for Hillary.  In the US we are not limited to just those two candidates.  There are third party candidates and we can write in whomever we want.  Now, the two main candidates are the only ones that legitimately stand a chance of winning, but that does not mean we have to vote for either one of them.  So, Billie is in no way shape or form endorsing Clinton.

I need to disagree with you.  She is just more polished.
