Incredibly false lol.

I've been a fan since 94. Just curious, what's your favorite album of theirs?

American Idiot, predictable I guess..? but the thing is a masterpiece and it was the first album I ever bought.

The Santa Claus line is pretty baffling. I'd quite like to know what @Hermione makes of it :P

The rest of it works, though? The reference to Somewhere Over The Rainbow ties in the cello metaphor nicely. I'm not saying it's one of Billie's better lyrics but beyond the aforementioned it's not totally nonsensical.

Doesn't he sing cause. That's what I hear - that makes sense to me.

If you are gonna defend the cello line then I'm afraid I'm never going to be able to take anything else you ever say seriously ever again

Yeah that's what I hear too but I was going by the lyrics. It doesn't improve things. I mean come on.

And that's where you and I differ. I think every album prior to AI is superior.

8th avenue serenade is just alright. Every song on RevRad is 100x better than that.

That's your interpretation and that's nice for you however Billie has given absolutely no indication that he feels his career is nearly done in any of the many interviews I've seen him do in the past few days and there remains no edges to any world I know of.

The dude said that he could've easily died while doing drugs and I don't think it is too far fetched to believe that a 30 year old band can be considered at his "last moments", not being too literal tho, Green Day still has a lot to offer

Yes easily. I like Forever Now but Outlaws is very forgettable.

Superior to AI. Green Day peaked with Warning and it's been downhill ever since. I still love them but they aren't what they once were.

Speaking of lyrics, has anyone come up with a meaning for the 2nd verse of Somewhere Now? it makes no sense to me :P

I got a scene in the middle of the road, i'm gonna take my time

I shop online so I can vote at the speed of life

I'm like a drone way up in the sky, i'm a shooting star

There's a soldier that's freaking out, PS this is war

For me Revolution Radio is beyond good or bad, they didn't just record some songs just to keep things going (which is what I think they've been doing since the 2000's, not necessarily a bad thing tho), Revolution Radio is a love letter to their entire career and, therefore, their lives, what they've accomplished. I love it.

I totally agree with it being a love letter to their career. It picks up a lot from their previous work and injects something new into it. American Idiot, 21CB, and the Trilogy were made very...professionally-minded. Which is fantastic and inspired some of the very best work of their career. They take their music seriously, and that's awesome. But RevRad comes from a different place. After hearing from all these different alter egos from Billie's psyche, after everything that has happened over the past few years, I really wanted to hear from just him. Not as a concept or a character, but just as a human being. And that's exactly what this album provides.

I'm too lazy to answer to all that but since I've been wanting to talk about these Forever Now lyrics, I will

These are one of my favourite lyrics because my interpretation is that "Standing at the edge of the world" means that Billie is realising his career is almost done, Green Day has been around since 1986 and being so close to the "edge" is freaking him out.

I could elaborate more but I think they point has been made, those aren't senseless lyrics.

I think this is a totally valid interpretation (most interpretations are valid when we don't know for sure, obviously!), but I look at "the edge of the world" as being what his life will be like from now on, and being scared of what lies ahead. At the same time, "burning lights and blackouts" paints me a painfully vivid picture of him looking back at his past, so I'm not sure. But I definitely view it as more personal than being about his career. His career is a big part of his life though, so I suppose it all blends together.

Well that's not a surprise, you said that you've been a fan since 1994 so you grew up with 90's Green Day and the nostalgia will always kick in.

Obviously those albums will always be more appealing to you.

Well if one does conclude that Forever Now is about Billie worrying that Green Day might break up then what the hell does this line have to do with anything

Yes it's partly due to nostalgia but I also believe their music was just all around stronger back then.

We wouldn't be on a Green Day fan forum if we weren't up for a bit of analyzation. :P Despite some nonsense here and there, I don't think Billie arbitrarily writes this stuff. The ability he has to interweave themes and lyrics and melodies throughout an album gives me the indication that he puts plenty of thought into it. And I'm a writer, I like to analyze stuff lol.

I think GD peaked around AI. I really don't know how you can write a JoS to the duds of the trilogy and RevRad.

Totally, RevRad feels different.

Certainly I can see what you mean by "it's just him", in songs like Somewhere Now, Outlaws and Forever Now you can clearly see it, and I think that's beautiful and unlike anything he's done before.

Btw, I also meant that those Forever Now lyrics were about his life too, not only his career. My interpretation is that the uncertainty is driving him crazy and since he's life revolves around Green Day, he probably doesn't know what his life is going to be after that.

I never said anything about "Billie worrying that Green Day might break up", Green Day will never break up (if no one dies that is) for me it's just him worrying about the future, since he's near to the "end", this is slightly exaggerated obviously.

Well it obviously has driven him crazy since he can't figure out how after working so hard he still ended up getting born the way he did. Bummer. ;):P

Whenever I listen to Say Goodbye I get a chill when Mike screams out "the suffering", I just love the way it sounds.
