Now that the album is officially out, it's great seeing casual listeners also experiencing and enjoying it.

I have a feeling that this album could be quite big... Could just be wishful thinking... But if I come into school on Monday and people are talking bout the new album, I'll be so happy

I've seen 3 people typically not into Green Day listening to this album today. Whatever the promotion is, I guess it's working.

Now they are. But before this week they were doing pretty much nothing

Just got home with my standard version in hand.   Here are some lyrics that we got totally wrong:

"I'm High on Cellular Waves"

"I shop online so I can vote at the speed of life"

"Nothing will change my spirit's place to roam" (ties in with the ending of the song, very nice touch)

"Looking for a Buzz" (sure doesn't sound like buzz but okay!)

"How did I work so hard to be born this way?"

"Daylight" in Youngblood

Also, they got some wrong in the booklet too.  Mostly minor stuff like is/it and missing S's like Bouncing Off the Wall.   They did one entire line in BANG BANG, Probably because it was in a Chorus but slightly different.

I've been listening to the songs for a while now and they are all great additions to the Green Day Oeuvre.  The packaging and booklet, they are just okay.

Where are the songwriting credits?  I mean, I know it's probably "all lyrics by Billie Joe, all music by Green Day" but I was wondering about that "Still Breathing" / Struts business.  And bow guitars should be listed separate, but I know I'm nitpicking.

One thing that really impresses me about this album is that it SOUNDS like there are all kinds of instruments being used but it's just guitar/bass/drums.   All three members make some unique sounds with their instruments on this one.  I can't believe there are no pianos, violins or keyboards.

I loved the fact that Forever Now has sub-titles for the different parts, that is awesome.  I love that the booklet isn't a big ugly poster but an actual lyric book.   That makes a big difference for me.  I like the new Green Day Cat carrying the TNT around, that's a nice touch.

The music I give a 10/10.

The packaging I give a 6/10.    The artwork and credits are lacking and the pictures could have been better.   Better than the Trilogy's packaging and a few other albums, but not as good as some others.

Overall, I freaking love this record and hope to God there are some cool B-sides in the future!   We know they didn't just write these 12 and exit the studio.   They always write tons of songs, take a big chunk to the studio and then narrow it down.

A lot of the songs end in bizarre ways.   Anyone else thinking that at one point each song ran into the next?  Perhaps it started as a Concept Album and then they said "You know what, we've done enough of those.  Let's not."

I bought the FLAC file. I don't know if it's a different master track or it's just the uncompressed quality, and I still don't have the CD to compare it, but the difference with the mp3 is FUCKING HUGE.
I'm not an audiophile, I can't explain it technically and I usually don't care about these issues, but it's just a much much better experience. I was skeptical, but the mp3 compression actually strongly influence this record.

Pretty much nothing? Yeah, but releasing perfect singles including the fastest #1 in their history. Doing interviews including Howard Stern which is the Holy Grail of musical interviews. If Howard has you on, you're doing well with your record, playing small shows, release parties all over the world, Fallon, taking over radio stations, leaking tracks, interviews with Kerrang and Rolling Stone (including cover on both).

Yes, I guess that counts as "pretty much nothing" if you are insane. ;)

I said "before this week". All the stuff you mentioned have been happening this week, with the exception of the Kerrang and Rolling Stone interviews, which really just appeal to rock fans as opposed to the mainstream audience. They weren't doing anything to promote their singles other than releasing a lyric video. I'm just saying nothing had really happened until this week

That just proves that he's doing it just to piss people off. He doesn't really think it's a 0 because he's even said he likes a few songs off it

So I just finished my first listen since I deleted the leak and I'm really glad I did that, because this was a totally different experience.

Firstly, I don't know what the fuck was wrong with the one I downloaded because the CD sounds completely different. I mean, obviously it's the same album, but the quality difference and how that affects the songs is huge. It's probably that I listened with a different mindset this time, too, but I actually can't understand why I thought Somewhere Now was remotely bad at any point. I love these lines:

All grown up and medicated / High on cellular waves ... Hallelujah I found my soul / Under the sofa pillow / Congratulations I found myself

I already knew I liked Say Goodbye from the leak so that's not a surprise. Said it before but I really hope they play this live!

Outlaws has grown on me a lot and I found it very moving this time. It's like a serenade to their youth. I think though it'll be a song like Restless Heart Syndrome that I like but don't want to listen to. Whilst it's not bitter there is something really sad about it.

Still Breathing is my baby and even though I've played it more times than I want to admit, I still don't want to skip it. It's so perfect as part of the album.

I love the verse in Too Dumb to Die about Billie's dad. I still feel like this song is an evolution of Sex, Drugs & Violence (or what that song should have been but wasn't). And omg I can't stop laughing at the cello now

Forever Now has some of Billie's best lyrics, I think. If this is what you call the good life, I want a better way to die ... How the hell did I work so hard to be born this way? / I never learned to read or write so well / But I can play the guitar until it hurts like hell. Oh, and of course the reprise of Somewhere Now - how did life on the wild side ever get so dull / full, that gives me chills once it comes full circle.

Also said this before but Ordinary World is such a perfect closer.

Overall, it's not my favourite Green Day album - I don't think anything will ever knock 21CB off that pedestal - but I definitely love it and it's lived up to my expectations. It is a Green Day album, through and through.

As for the lyric book, the text on some pages is quite hard to read and even basic artwork for each song would have been nice, rather than two songs shoved onto one page. But then the album is a lot simpler and more straightforward than AI or 21CB, so maybe it's only right that the accompanying book is simpler.

I also feel the need to say that liking this doesn't affect me liking the trilogy, since so many people are now declaring their undying hatred :P

OKAY so now that the album is officially out can we talk about the weird shift between Bouncing Off the Wall and Still Breathing?? It just seems like BOTW is supposed to lead into the next songs like Are We the Waiting/St. Jimmy or Brain Stew/Jaded. It's just a very odd transition to me, I wanted to see what everyone else thought.

I believe that the album started out as a concept album OR the songs were in different orders.  I'm curious if in a different order, they would all kind of connect together.

Regarding the transition between Bouncing Off the Wall and Still Breathing, I think it's heavy-handed and awkwardly executed, but the intention was, as I see it, to contrast the trilogy-esque hedonistic themes of BOTW with him coming clean and realizing the way to go in Still Breathing.

I just picked up the CD so I can play it in my car all the time without plugging in my phone. I bet I was very entertaining to the people parked around me, because I was practically jumping up and down in my seat as I was opening the packaging.  (Side note: Best Buy didn't have ANY Green Day. Had to go to Target. Boo, Best Buy.)

I have my favorite dudes back. REALLY back. I missed them like crazy, and I'm just ecstatic right now. SUCH a good album to listen to while driving with the windows down. I'm in love.

I assume there are no target exclusive tracks? Nothing has been said about such.

Haha, that must have been a site. No judgement though-never :)

Nope, no Target exclusives. It was the cheapest new release on the shelf, actually.
