Revolution Radio

I have a feeling that this album is going to do great on charts and mainstream. Everytime I listen to the album again, I fall in love with it more and more. They've done already much more and better promotion with RevRad than Trilogy. There's strong and emotional songs and few really radio friendly songs. Something for everyone. For me there's none of "skip this" tracks. This is gonna be good era to be a Green Day fan!

I don't see the mainstream popularity coming back, but I think this album will be well received in the rock community.

I've been listening to RevRad for over a week now but didn't get around to posting my thoughts. Some songs have grown on me but others are still only OK imo.

Favourites:

Bang Bang, Say Goodbye, Troubled Times, Still Breathing, Forever Now, Ordinary World

Like but don't love:

Somewhere Now, Revolution Radio, Outlaws, Too Dumb To Die

Meh/thumbs down:

Young Blood, Bouncing Off The Wall

Overall I think it's a great album and I enjoy listening to it front to back. I thought that YB and BOTW would have grown on me by now but tbh I'm tempted to skip them when I'm listening to the album. The chorus in YB in particular just annoys me (apologies to all the YB fans out there :P ), but other songs that I didn't really like at first e.g. Outlaws are getting better with every listen :)

I feel like this album could do really well as there's some really catchy and radio friendly songs that could be chosen as singles. I can't wait to hear them live!

It's the official release day in Australia and it's appeared on Spotify. Woohoo! Legit/legal copy

Quick question (had to skip 15+pages to get to the end, so I don't know if it's been asked yet):

Is the store version of the CD different from the lyric book pre-order? If so, which is which?

Yeah, the lyric book is a rectangle book and the store version is the square CD

I know that (but thanks) but I mean the design on the actual CD.
So far I've seen pictures of a red/white cd with the car, and pictures of a black cd with the song titles in black font and the font of revolution radio in red

Oh, sorry! :) I think there are photos on the Green Day reddit if you haven't checked there. I haven't looked though because I want to be somewhat surprised when I get mine :D

That's a really great review to read.  I find it funny that the writer kept calling him 'Mr Armstrong' though, people don't seem to do that normally and it makes him seem a bit too posh :P

I absolutely love how posh NYT is! They always do this in their articles and I think it's cool.

How often do you see words "Green Day" and "posh" in the same sentence?

Same. It took me a coupe days to appreciate that song but now I love it. The part you mentioned and that one with "I want a better way to die" is awesome.

And I agree with this as well. Our waiting payed off.

This is about the time where I get really envious of the people who had the willpower to stay away from the leaks. I don't regret it, I like giving into my temptations and feeling "in the know" before the rest of the world. At least now I have total confidence in what Green Day is about to release. But to go out and buy the record on the day, to then hurry home to listen to it would've been a treat. A treat of a lost age sadly.

Happy new-Green-Day-record-day to all the fans! (I think that's in order, when you remember that it is arguably a more exciting and rare event than so many annual holidays)

Lots of sold out shows and publicity is at a good level.   Now if they could just make some good decisions about singles and music videos this really will be a great cycle!  I know Revolution Radio and Still Breathing got thrown into the world pretty early, but I'm kind of hoping that the title track isn't the next heavily promoted single.  There's a lot to choose from the album as far as potential hits.

Say Goodbye and Outlaws would both be awesome!

Youngblood could make its way up the charts.

Too Dumb to Die is classic Green Day, I could see the marketing for that one (I would rock a tshirt with that phrase!)

Ordinary World just might before Good Riddance II, so duh!

Bouncing off the Wall should never, never, ever be a single.  (I am still hoping this song gets replaced with an instrumental or a Mike Dirnt song or something)

Troubled Times is good but there's nothing special about it.   NO SINGLE FOR YOU!!!!

Somewhere / Forever Now are both "too great" to be singles.   They'd be butchered like Jesus was back in 2005.   Ugh.

Still Breathing is climbing the charts and deserves an official music video and radio play.

So.....they need to release seven singles this time around.

Heck, do something different and release all 12 as singles over an extended period of time.

But at least 7.

Some theories on the "I feel like a cello" line I found on Reddit:

1). The cello is a once popular, but now rarely used instrument. Billie sees himself as a relic from a different era.

2). The line is followed by "lost somewhere over the rainbow." Cello is used heavily in the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," so it could be a reference to the song itself. I buy this because he references "Johnny Be Goode" in "Forever Now" as well.

Wow, I disagree with almost everything you just said.  Say goodbye is a great song, but I find it too repetitive for a single. Outlaws is great but I don't see it as a single when the chances are good that ordinary world will be.  They won't release two slower songs.

Don't get me started on the atrocity that is youngblood. That song should have stayed in billies closet.

I think botw would make an awesome single.  It is upbeat, bouncy with great lyrics. I find myself smiling and dancing every time it comes on.  I find it reminiscent of early beatles

I didn't think I'd be going to town tomorrow and now I am and it's going to be damn near impossible for me to resist buying the album if I see it. My copy isn't due to deliever for another few days.

I suggested this thing like 20 pages ago, I support this theory :D

Still Breathing is already gaining some airtime on one big mainstream radio station in Finland. It's new release of the week and listeners have voted it with 7.3/10 average.

I don't understand the hate on BOTW. It's a great song. The only song that is kind of meh is Youngblood. The verses are catchy but the chorus can get annoying with time.
