Some people's logic:

Quote

It repeats the same line more than three times? Oh then, the song is a pile of shit.

On "Say Goodbye"  it sounds like there's another line in there but no one has lyrics to it.

Right after "Kindred spirits sing for the sick and suffering" (starting at 0:51 seconds) there are backup vocals saying something but I can't figure it out.

Somebody figure it out!

"THE SUFFERING"

or

"THE SURFER THING"

"THE SULFER RING"

"THE SILVER BLING"

it's one of those for sure.

Anyone catch the Johnny B. Goode reference?

Forever Now:

I never learned to read or write so well
But I can play the guitar
Until it hurts like hell

Johnny B. Goode:

He never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play the guitar
Just like a ringing a bell

I looked up Jimmy Page playing it and the video I watched was a solo.  It sounded pretty awful, but in the context of a song, it is a very cool effect.

Yeah Page said he wanted to "hurt everybody's ears" with the violin bow

I read the lyrics before I heard the song and instantly noticed it. He breaks it up in the song though so not as obvious when you hear it. I think it's definitely deliberate - Green Day have even covered the song before!

I think I have my finger on one of the things that seemed missing from this album.

Good guitar solos! There are a couple but honestly none are all that special and some are even buried. And the ones that are good are often just the chorus melody (a pet peeve of mine).

Don't get me started on that wall of fucking noise in Young blood.

I wasn't that surprised with the guitar solo's, I did kinda expect this.

If someone adds a good guitar solo to still breathing, it will sound so much better.

Going into a Green Day album expecting great guitar solos is a bit retarded though.

Guitar solos are cheesy. I'm glad for the lack of them.

A good guitar solo is never cheesy.

Slash knows a thing or two about good guitar solos ;)

Yeah I miss them too. Trilogy was full of them. And that's something that shows your guitar skills. But it looks like Jason wasn't with them much this time.

I mean there are guitar solos but they are mostly boring. If you do them do something more innovative than the vocal melody repetition, we all know they can be more creative in that part. Although I really like the guitar solo parts in Somewhere Now, Say Goodbye, Outlaws and especially in Too Dumb To Die.

Green Day never had these hard rocking melodic solo's, mostly are a repetition of the Vocal melody, but that tiny little solo which is there in Wake Me Up When September Ends adds something good to the song.

Billie is a talented guitarist, adding some proper guitar solos would have been good.

Yeah but Green Day aren't good at guitar solos. They are very forced and boring.

Tell me how The Forgotten solo doesn't take you in a whole new magic world everytime :o
