I think I hear bow guitar in Say Goodbye about one minute in; during the line "say hello to the ones in control" at 1:19; 1:54 and just before the solo at 2:04. I could be totally wrong and that's not bow guitar, but it kinda sounds what i imagine it would if you use a bow over all the strings as a chord!

Yes, I listened and I agree with you.  I think your 2:04 is what I said 2:06, close enough.  But yes, I think you are right on the other times as well.  It is easy to hear if you have someone tell you where it is.

Lol, since one person has agreed with me I will assume that is the bow guitar then  It sounds frigging awesome btw. Love that effect!

I looked up Jimmy Page playing it and the video I watched was a solo.  It sounded pretty awful, but in the context of a song, it is a very cool effect.

I have to say I'm completely rubbish at interpreting lyrics most of the time. I just wait for other people to give their opinions then I decide whether I agree.I think it's my total lack of a creative brain. But it's always super interesting to hear people's different interpretations.

Also need to have a break from listening to the album! I didn't sleep well last night because it was just going round and round in my head.

Actually Youngblood is legitimately their best song since 2009. It's the exact type of song that Green Day excel at writing.

On the subject of Youngblood's lyrics again, does anyone have any ideas about "Bleeding heart and the soul of Miss Teresa"? I think the meaning is something similar to Last of the American Girls about her caring a lot about causes/charities, but who or what is Miss Teresa?

I assumed it was referring to Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa, founder of Missionaries of Charity.

It's legitimately the worst song they've ever written. It's intensely irritating. The repetition of "youngblood" throughout the song is infuriating. And to think some people found KNE repetitive, it was nothing compared to this!

The vocals! They're so warm and joyful! I love it.

On "Say Goodbye"  it sounds like there's another line in there but no one has lyrics to it.

Right after "Kindred spirits sing for the sick and suffering" (starting at 0:51 seconds) there are backup vocals saying something but I can't figure it out.

Somebody figure it out!

Another thing about Youngblood is that for years they've been trying to capture that youthful energy, and on that song not only do they succeed, but they make it seem effortless.

I know what line you mean but I have no fuckin idea what it is  I can't even make a guess. It possibly sounds like "???? on the rise" ???

What is interesting about Youngblood is that for the most part, there is no gray area.  People either love it or hate it.  I don't really recall that kind of reaction out of one of their songs before.  I have no idea what that means, but it is interesting.

ON a positive note, I'm in love with every other song on the album.

I don't love or hate it :P

I tend to skip it, for me it's one of the weaker tracks on the album.

I wouldn't say I hate it by a long shot though. Not like a track like Nightlife. Ugh.

I'm really loving Too Dumb to Die today :D

Listening to it now. I'm reading the lyrics this time. I'm happy to say most of them are actually good. Not that I understand everything (that line about online shopping in Somewhere Now, wtf?) and not that some parts aren't word salad but the overall impression is good.

Unpopular opinion: verses of Still Breathing are a little cliched.

Forever Now finally clicked with me! The finale oh my God.

Say Goodbye and Troubled Times are both great musically and lyrically. Loving Outlaws more and more as well.

This album will take a couple more listens to fully grow on me. I think it might end up being one of my favorites. (The way I feel about music can change a lot. I went from loving 21CB to hating it passionatelly to loving it again and I'm curious how I'll feel about RevRad after a while.)

You are correct, GD has plenty of stand out silly tracks, but Youngblood is just seriously cringeworthy.  The lyrics are so cringeworthy, I would put this song in the bottom 10 of GD songs ever.  Musically, it is fun and catchy.

Its not cringeworthy its dorky (its BJ all over) - & you call yourself BJ's biggest fan.

I love this album but I'm already sick of say goodbye. I would say that's my least favorite on the album. A little too repetitive for my liking.

I still haven't gotten enough of it  (surprisingly, considering I've been enjoying it in big amounts). I like how it is a little unusual for a Green Day song.

I love the verse structure -  I like the repetitiveness.

Yes, it's very dorky. I wish I could properly hate on it but I just giggle.

I kind of like the concept of a tongue-in-cheek lovesong.

Yes, it's used very effectively.
