Are you restless?", she said. "Fuck you I'm from Oakland!" [he answers] She is "the cedar in the trees of Minnesota", he is "a rough boy' round the edges", she is sweet, he is rude. I think that is kind of stretching it. That is just not the way people speak, plus the way he sings it is, She said: Fuck you I'm from Oakland. Yeah, its just not a song I'm going to get
Hermione
If it is her saying it maybe it could be meaning more like "fuck you I'm from Oakland now", like I'm also from Oakland and am part of the Oakland culture/have the Oakland attitude now that I've moved here? solongfromthestars
Has he said it's from the perspective of his younger self though? Up until "she said" it's in present tense. Either way I'm still not a fan of the lyrics but other people are and that's fine. The song is stuck in my head now, I'll give it that!

It needs to me one measure longer IMO. No she said is just used at the end. Billie just says Fuck you I'm from Oakland. Adrienne is from Minnesota. Yeah, its just not a song I'm going to get It's a really nerdish analysis, but I always heard it in the other way. It's not the way people speaks, but in poetic writing is quiet common. I don't know how to explain it, but the "tone" of "she said" is identical to the one of "Are you restless?", "Fuck you I'm from Oakland" has a different intonation (I really don't know if I'm using the right terminology). I really heard it in this way since the first listen, I checked the GDA lyrics for the first time when I saw your conversation and I was quiete surprised for this interpretation, but it seems I'm the only one, so probably I'm wrong and the right explanation is the one proposed by @Hermione. This is a compliment, how? I got it that he means she makes him feel young, like that they still keep the same dynamic in the relationship. Or maybe, at least in a part of the song, he is reminiscing. Either way I'd say this song sucks ass: the chorus is ridiculously repetitive and the verses are the same as in She's The Rebel. Frankly, it's so bad it makes me laugh but at the same time, it was stuck in my head the whole day. I have to admit it has something.

No, you've come up with some interesting observations. On another issue, the bow guitar. I listened to Jimmy Page playing bow guitar and it is a very distinctive sound, and honestly not particularly pleasant. I can say that I am only definite on one spot it is in, in Say Goodbye at 2:06 and it is only for a couple of seconds. I might have heard it in Outlaws during the solo, but I really didn't hear it at all in Forever NOw. I don't have a great ear so if anyone else can pinpoint a spot let me know. 3 minutes ago, Jane Lannister said: I got it that he means she makes him feel young, like that they still keep the same dynamic in the relationship. Hero_Of_The_Hour
I don't know how people can get that Billie is the one saying "fuck you I'm from Oakland" when the lyrics are Are you broken Like I'm broken Are you restless She said "Fuck you I'm from Oakland" The song almost sounds disjointed, as though it's about two different people since it specifically mentions the "she" who says "fuck you" in response to the questions of "are you broken like I'm broken? Are you restless?" is FROM Oakland. The lyrics remind me of She's a Rebel and make me think immediately of Whatsername.

AmyxLongview
You can be "from" more than one place. Yes she's originally from Minnesota, but she's lived in Oakland for a while so she can also say that she's from Oakland.

And the overly bouncy melody makes it sound like a goofy song from a cartoon Yeah, I mean, I like this song for this reason, I think it's funny to sing and dance along with it, probably is the weakest of the record, both musically and lyrically, still I can't consider it a filler or a bad track. Since the first listen it made me laugh so bad, in a positive way And it's something that the silliest songs of the Trilogy, or Christian's Inferno, or others "worst tracks of the record" from previous albums can't do. Steven Seagull
The number of people who don't get such simple lyrics is too high. How the hell did y'all get through Bang Bang? Oh yeah because Billie explained the story behind the lyrics or else no one would understand them.

Jimmy melody in the chorus Say Goodbye uses viva la gloria melody we already got the clapping on the trilogy Outlaws is a Wild One rip off Still Breathing is probably the only song that stands out Nothing new. With the Trilogy we got much more inovative albums. A new sound, much more guitar solos, different style of guitar playing (Kill The DJ), rap, ... I was disappointed that Lady Cobra didn't get a verse on the new album. Imagine how much better "Outlaws" would have been if her and Mike did a battle rap in the middle. I'm only partially kidding. This. You said it better than I could. It's not just bad, it's so outragiously dumb. I listened to it three times yesterday but only twice to the rest of the record. It's irresistibly funny. The part that reminds STR even lyrically (before the fuck you line) sounds like a deliberate parody. It's hilarious.

DeJennsitized
I think I hear bow guitar in Say Goodbye about one minute in; during the line "say hello to the ones in control" at 1:19; 1:54 and just before the solo at 2:04. I could be totally wrong and that's not bow guitar, but it kinda sounds what i imagine it would if you use a bow over all the strings as a chord!
