I've tacked on the reprise of "Somewhere Now" in "Forever Now" onto the end of "Somewhere Now" to create a 7+ minute masterpiece. It's glorious.

I've been tempted to add the entirety of Somewhere Now before the reprise of the song and then have it continue into the second part, but I can't bring myself to do it, only because IF these songs get played live, they will feel wayyyyy too short :(

In all honesty, I don't think these songs could ever be too long for me. I'd take a 30 minute version of this song any day.

About 21CB length.

Every Green Day album as good as this should be 21CB length ;)

I think the sofa pillows line is really clever too. It could mean a variety of things. He found his soul in a common 'first place you look' scenario like @Scattered Wreck suggested, or it could maybe mean he was sitting on it the whole time; he had it the whole time but was distracted/preoccupied (maybe by a television in this metaphorical scenario). It's a great line.

my favorite lyric is "I want a new conspiracy! and the silence of a thousand cries, so hurry up! i want a better way to die!" i think it's a reference back in 2009 on a spreading rumor that he had died on an accident hahaha

My Fav. Lyric would be

I'm like a junkie tying off for the last time
I'm like a loser that's betting on his last dime
Oh, I'm still alive
I'm like a son that was raised without a father
I'm like a mother barely keeping it together
Oh, I'm still alive

Why do you think it is stupid?  A punk rocker is supposed to be "anti-establishment" and labor day is a holiday that honors working people.  You can't get more "establishment" then that.  I thought it was a great way to say that he feels conflicted.

Because it sounds bad, clunky and just generally a silly way to get that sentiment across. Could have been done a thousand times better

I remember back in 2012, I said that ¡TRÉ! was between my favourite Green Day albums, like top 3.

I still think is a great album but hype might have blind my senses a bit. However, I really think that's not happening again with Revolution Radio.

There's something about this new album... how diverse it is; how innovative it is; fuck, even how good some of the lyrics and, overall, songs are in there.

I can see why some dislike it or even hate it, it's unlike anything we've heard from them, but certainly I'm gonna love this era.

Same. That's a huge part of it. American Idiot was special because it's how I was introduced to the band. 21CB was special because it was my first time experiencing the release of a new Green Day album. And this one is special because it's just...important for even existing. This album is so markedly them and fits so well into who they are as a band right now, looking back on past work, some tough life experiences, and so many accomplishments. This album could've never happened. I don't take that for granted for a second. The fact that they're still here and we're still here is very meaningful, and these songs are a phenomenal reflection of all of that. I'm so proud to love these guys.

By the way, I admire your self control in only listening to some songs. I keep telling myself that I'm cutting myself off this Friday to build anticipation for the 7th, but I'm not sure how well that will go.

That's exactly how I was! I didn't even get to listen to AI until like 2006ish, but when I did, it struck a chord deep down.

This album is so beautifully crafted, and I am just so excited to hear all of it.

I almost broke last night, but I managed to avert.

I've listened to about half of it, but I can persevere! Maybe I'll luck out and the Vinyl will ship a few days early lol.

Not at all. What is exactly that we haven't heard from them? Because in my opinion it's just an album full of their recycled songs.

True, there are so many parts which I have heard so many times before.

While listening to it, I was like Where have I heard this part before.

For me it felt really different, the only exceptions were Bouncing Off the Wall and maybe Youngblood.

But, for example, in Somewhere Now, Say Goodbye, Outlaws and Still Breathing they tried many things I never saw coming.

My real problem of this album, at this point of the of my life, and the band too, is that BJ is too lazy to write a good chorus w/o making repetitive (Outlaws, Youngblood, Say Goodbye, Still Breathing, Troubled Times) I mean, there is nothing than a dictionary can't fix for making the songs better.

Do you really think good, relatable, meaningful writing is achieved by just reading a dictionary/thesaurus and picking out big words?

OK. I dunno if anyone will bother reading my long story - but here goes.

My music taste has changed a lot in the last 21 years since I became Green Day's number 1 fan, I'll admit I rarely listen to them much these days, but unlike any other band in history I have a very strong tie with Green Day. They shaped the type of person I grew up to be. I formed friendships that have lasted years due to our mutual interest in this band. I still keep in touch with my best friend through high school who introduced me to Green Day back in 1995 every time there is a new release. I met my wife because of Green Day, and therefore if it weren't for them - our daughter would most likely never of been brought in to this world!

So anyway, here's my take on RevRad after a fair few listens now...

Firstly I will say that I was underwhelmed at first, because the sound of Bang Bang blew me away when it first came out. I thought, yes! The AI sounding Green Day are back. The Trilogy sounding Green Day with those Arctic Monkey style vocal effects and soft guitars are gone. I was expecting a fast paced album all the way through, but RevRad turned out totally different to what I expected. So yes I was underwhelmed at first - but as most of you said, this is a slow burner, and as it turns out - this is a solid release.

The album won't blow anyone away like American Idiot did, none of their releases since AI have (for me). It's a tough one to beat. RevRad may not win them a whole bunch of new fans, probably not even any Grammy's. But Green Day are staying true to themselves now with RevRad. They're not trying to be the biggest rock band in the world anymore. Nor are they trying to win people over with the mid-life crisis "party animal" persona...

I find this release quite a depressing listen, nostalgic - but so were the classic Green Day albums. This album feels very personal. I like that.

I'm happy they're still going, with all original members (well, you know..) and I hope they do keep bringing out records for many more years.

Highlights: Too Dumb To Die, Forever Now

7/10

P.S I find the album title doesn't really match the feel of the album. Perhaps a better title would of been Somewhere Now..

Now where does it sit in my all-time personal favourite Green Day albums??

Insomniac
American Idiot
Kerplunk!
Dookie
Nimrod
Uno
21st Century Breakdown
1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours
Revolution Radio
Warning
Dos
Tre

I still think BJA is trying to be edgy with the social/political commentary and it comes off as trying too hard for me, but this is a nice post. The material here feels way more genuine than 80% of the Trilogy. This isn't a bad album, and that's really all I wanted hahah.

My thoughts.

I love this album. It's amazing, not sure on Youngblood yet, but the rest is awesome. My particular favourite is Outlaws because I love how different it sounds, it gives me a little bit of Beatles, and I love it for that. It definitely isnt my favourite Green Day album, but it is easily in my top 5.

My order:

1. American Idiot

2. 21CB

3. Dookie

4. Rev Rad

5. Insomniac

6. Nimrod

7. Uno

8. 39/Smooth

9. Kerplunk

10. Warning

11. Tre

12. Dos

I really wonder how Billie destroyed the phrase "pop punk". Listen to the new Sum 41 song and you'll hear the difference.

I hope people never pick apart my 11 word long late night tweets like this.

Proceeding elsewhere (elsewhere)
On my journey to thee"
