I shuffled it up today and let me tell you, Troubled Times > Say Goodbye > Still Breathing in a row is a spiritual experience.

I think someone already said this ( @stories and songs?) but I love how in Somewhere Now he says "How did life on the wild side ever get so dull?" and then in the reprise in Forever Now he sings "How did life on the wild side ever get so full?"

It's like at first you see him struggling to cope with his life after rehab, how at first he wonders how to deal with "dealing with yourself" and then in Forever Now he has found the answer, a true meaning to keep on living and still breathing (no pun intended).

@Stefano Bras Hells yeah I said that. :D

And it's funny, because when I first read the line "When did life on the wild side ever get so dull?" in an RS article out of context, I thought he was referring to partying growing dull. In context, compared to Forever Now, I think it's clearer that he's bored with his "rockstar life" becoming so subdued (that could also be a reference not just to drugs/alcohol, but just dealing with himself during his downtime in general), only later to realize that there's meaning just being alive. That even though he never wanted to compromise with himself before, what he has is actually more than enough.

This is why I love his writing, holy shit.

But why did you put Dookie and Nimrod among originals. Those movies are awful :ermm:

okay okay okay. Green Day is one thing but now you're saying Star Wars is bad!?

this has to be a troll. :runaround:

Is it weird that I totally find that beautiful?

Good to see a lot of folks changing their opinions about songs and the album in general.  The reactions we all had 2 seconds after the album leaked are irrelevant.  Now we've all had a some time to listen to it and determine what we really like and don't like.

I think this is one of Green Day's most emotional works.  There's more than a few songs that really hit hard.   All of Green Day's records have had emotional and powerful moments, but starting with American Idiot they really shifted gears and it was conscious and wise decision on their part.  Breakdown and the some of Tre had some genuine moments like that, but I think that American Idiot and Revolution Radio do it best.

Songs like Jesus of Suburbia, Broken Dreams, Letterbomb, Wake Me Up, Homecoming and Whatshername are gut-wrenching to me.

on this one:   Outlaws, Still Breathing, Too Dumb to Die, Forever Now and Ordinary World carry a punch.

Other songs are great, but these are the ones that I relate to and effect me in an extraordinary way.

I feel dumb.   I was trying to figure out what Billie meant by "Super Vision" in Outlaws.   I just figure out it was supervision, like a parent or guardian and not super-man like vision.      der der der

I finally got my Bang Bang single a week after Best Buy was supposed to have it in store. I really hate that place.

GDA, your Trouble Times lyrics are a bit troubled.  I believe it's "Paradise burning", not "there it lies burning"

:)

Outlaws is the song that keeps creeping into my mind as I'm working, and considering I find most other songs on RevRad more catchy, this is confusing.

Same here, I can't stop humming it at work. Which is interesting because it certainly isn't my favorite from the album.

It amazes me how some people ranked the new album above classics like AI or Dookie...:ermm: I mean the new stuff is good and all but nothing can beat those albums in my mind. Still Breathing might end up being one of my favorite songs though.

In 10 years time, RevRad just might be a classic, too! :)

This is true. Hopefully they still have a few more albums left in them :)

BJA's lyrics and songwriting are pretty weak on this thing. I'm enjoying the record, though.

I just did this and let me tell you, it was amazing. I can't even put it into words. That was such an experience. It tickled my pickle for sure.

The lyrics on this record aren't even bad...

Let's not forget that on Tre we got "when you fall, you're gonna need a parachute or a used pair of shoes to go and walk away"

Same.  I can see how it might come off as corny, but in the context of the song as a whole (and the next line -- "I'm waiting on a dream that's too dumb to die") it works really well.  At least the way I'm interpreting it: Still believing even though you're probably too old to...

It's a perfect line if you think about it that way.

The lyrics aren't as insightful as AI or parts of 21CB, but I think that for the most part, BJA did a great job with writing this album. I actually like that lyric about Santa Claus in TDTD. It's goofy as hell, but I find it to have meaning. I haven't really had time to dissect the lyrics too much, but from what I've gathered, that song is about the middle class struggle billie experienced in youth and reflecting on it. He's looking for a cause to understand why his family is so limited (or maybe why he dreams of something better), but all he can find is childlike naivete that feeds back into the cycle. Sure, it's dumb. But it feels so Green day and I love it

I truly love the album,  I love Billies more personal lyrics and I love a lot of the melodies. It seems I am getting addicted to RevRad. Outlaw is the song I love the least,  I love the lyrics but it's just too slow/boring to me. I am one of those who also love Youngblood.  Trouble Times,  that song is simply awesome. I am deeply in love with Green Day,  as I have been the last 21 years
