I'm loving the album. It isn't without flaws but even the weaker moments are partially redeemed by their energy. One thing I'm noticing is that new layers emerge each time I listen. For me, that was what missing from the trilogy where everything the songs contained was on the surface. It makes for a far more rewarding listening experience.

It is rare for me to listen to any one song more than once in a day. The fact that there are several tracks I listen to several times a day (Somewhere Now, Bang Bang, Outlaws and Still Breathing) is testament to how much the album has resonated with me.

Wow man, that's a bold call.

Yep...and one I am VERY happy and willing to stand by. It has been stuck in my head more than any Green Day song ever and I've also yet to listen to it and not break down in tears. It's a winner for sure.

Also, this is one of Billie's best vocal performances, up there with 21stCB.

Yeah, if there's one thing I didn't like about the trilogy, then it's the vocals (and/or vocal filters in particular). In some cases they even ruined some otherwise good songs for me...

Well, I did it! Found the Album on this website where you can watch videos... what's the name again....:-P  (didn't even search it just came up ) ! So I grabbed a beer and listened to it and FUUUUUCK :runaround: I'm in love!!!! There are one or two songs that aren't my favorites, but hey can't love everything! But it made me very, very happy! And I'm pretty sure it wasn't the beer ;)

So, I finally got to listen to the leak  (do I win the pirating noob prize? :P ) and here are my first impressions:

Overall, RevRad is the real follow-up of 21CB - is is as if they picked up where they left they career before the Trilogy.

The mix with loud guitars makes vocals quite hard to understand but what I could hear made me very happy. Good writing is back at least in a part of the record.

Also the dynamics are a little over the top, from too loud to too silent. It took me a good while to figure out the right volume.

Not sure how I feel about the vocals on most of the Trilogy-like sounding songs but whatever.

Somewhere Now - I really liked it, this is what I hoped for from them...it is musically complex and just flows nicely...good lyrics and a good "mood-setter" for the rest of the record. I can hear some folk song influence in it.

Bang Bang - huh, kinda like it. Ridiculously loud and straightforward after SN but good and full of energy.

Revolution Radio - like a Trilogy song, the lyrics are cringey. I didn't really like the song but at least the guitars are pretty interesting and the chorus catchy. But no, thanks anyway.

Say Goodbye - Really good usage of vocal effects. Probably my favorite. It's great, it is as far from their comfort zone as they went and I absolutely love the direction they took. In felt a little like Wolves Of Winter by Biffy Clyro, I mean in context of Green Day's catalogue. Slightly unusual, you know?

Outlaws - I agree with Judi it has a bit of Bowie influence. I like it, especially the silent verses. The choruses are a little generic but still very good. It could be a little shorter, all that nostalgia for 5 minutes might be a little long but I can't complain - this song is one of those that make you realize how much GD has evolved. If I wanted to hear a short, simple song, I could listen to Insomniac.

Bouncing Off The Wall - not that I remember much I'd say it's a superior Trilogy song with better lyrics. Ok.

Still Breathing - They overdid it with the vocal filters, this song would have been pop enough withought them and a rawer voice would have made it much more emotional, this is a little too sterile for my taste. (By the way, it feels so strange to hear something so positive from Green Day...I have to say that the sentiment of this song makes it better for me.) However, I like it: it's very catchy - I couldn't dislike the chorus even if I tried.

Youngblood - I don't want to say it's bad but it sure is funny. It made me laugh. Reminded me of the Trilogy as well. By the way, the second half was kind of boring. Definitely felt much longer than the first.

Too Dumb To Die - bleh. Like Trilogy, not much to remember and I couldn't hear the lyrics well. I might get a proper opinion after more listens.

Troubled Times - I liked this one. I'd play it a tad faster personally, faster tempo would suit it well

Forever Now - Like a long Trilogy song with better lyrics. DRB was less coherent but had better (or rather catchier) melody. I suppose this song hasn't grown on me yet, so many people seem to like it. I'll have to read the lyrics to properly understand them as well. However, it was pretty boring on the first listen. The best part was the Somewhere Now repeat.

Ordinary World - and here comes the folk influence again. It would fit on Foreverly very well. Good.

After listening to the whole album I can place it 3rd in my list after AI and 21CB. Very diverse and powerful! Love it.

The three singles are getting no love from me at the moment because they're not new like the rest , they stick out weirdly because they're too familiar. But I know in time they'll blend in.

Its true though you feel different about Still Breathing once its blended into the album.

I actually get sad when I reach the end, because it goes by so fast. THAT is the sign of a good album, folks.

Yeah & I say that's the last time today & then I listen to it again.

Agreed - it is also the first album that I really noticed the other dynamics - I mean Tre's drumming is phenomenal.  I love the entire experience of this well crafted album.

When I listen I dont need a Cuatro to see the behind the scenes making of the album I can totally feel the experience of the guys in the studio by just listening.

Too early to do this, but eh. Whatever

1) American Idiot

2) Dookie

3) Revolution Radio

4) Warning

5) Nimrod

6) Insomniac

7) Kerplunk

8) 21CB

9) Tre

10) Uno

11) 1039 smoothed out slappy hours

12) Dos

As for individual tracks on RevRad

1) Bang Bang- still gets me every time. The power, energy, mood. Probably in my top 5 favorite songs by them. 10/10

2) say goodbye- tons of unique stuff they messed around with. Feels like East Jesus Nowhere, but superior imo. 9.75/10

3) Too dumb To die- fuck whatever the lyrics in the chorus mean, it's way way too fun :P plus, I think the 2nd verse is actually very impressive and relatable lyrically, so that kinda saves the question marks during the chorus. 9.25/10

4) Outlaws- slow, but impactful imo. Really enjoy billies vocals on this one. Especially that ending, like holy shit. 9/10

5) still breathing- ultra emotional, roller coaster of a song and I really love the bridge ("are you scared to death to live?") 9/10

6) somewhere now- great opener, especially when it breaks into the chorus. Plus, the ending bit where he says hallelujah is a great culmination for the bridge. 8.75/10

7) Youngblood- catchy + fun, and I think the "fuck you, I'm from oakland" bit is my favorite delivery of any line on the album. 8.5/10

8) RevRad- definitely captures the mood of the album, just a bit too formulaic. 8/10

9) Ordinary world- I'm not too sure it fits on the album necessarily, but I think he absolutely nailed the atmosphere of the song itself and his vocals were very heart-wrenching. 8/10

10) forever now- Idk if it's just me, but it's thrown together quite oddly, and some parts are fantastic (If this is what you call the good life/ the reprisal), but the whole first half feels forgettable. Bumps up due to Tre's FANTASTIC drumming. 7.75/10

11) Troubled Times- I dig the hook, and like the verse with Mike's bass, but it boils down to it being too repetitive. 7.25/10

12) Bouncing off the wall- fun filler. Nothing more, nothing less. Still better than 90% of the trilogy, and I feel like it actually captures what those albums were supposed to be. 6.75/10

Its weird how' bouncing off the Walls captures what a a trilogy worth of albums was trying to capture in one song. So much more natural and just a lot better

I like the trilogy but this is so true. Imagine if the trilogy had a huge sound to it, it could've been so much better.

I really don't like ranking albums - different GD albums/eras etc hold a lot of different emotions.  I just grab an album depending on my mood.

Also shuot out to my neighbours today - sorry - family is out - its me, the dog, Revolution Radio & my new speakers:)

Here's my gripe.  Can people just listen like they are at home alone or with some friends or whatever ( hey to each his own) and jammed this on their record players?  Why does everyone all the sudden become a music critic instead of just smoking a bowl and dancing around naked at the fun and seriousness of this album?   It's music, it's not a documentary about Billie's life, it's a glimpse. It's meant for you to feel a connection to the vibe and show up at a show and live in the energy of everyone who gets it. If you don't then save your money ( or data) and skip this and find what invigorates your heart.

Preach.

Outlaws is the song that keeps creeping into my mind as I'm working, and considering I find most other songs on RevRad more catchy, this is confusing.

That's the best one, it breaks my heart into pieces (that one and Still Breathing.)

I was positive that my favorite song was either Troubled Times or Say Goodbye, but every time I listen to Forever Now I fall more and more in love with it.

Then I hear Outlaws & I change my mind and at the end the simplistic Ordinary World is gorgeous.

Yes Forever Now is really trying to kick Troubled Times off its pedestal.
