stories and songs
Second half of Forever Now I'm just like "YESSSSS!" and want to high-five everyone involved in making it. I think Somewhere Now/Forever Now talk pretty much about Billie readjusting to life post-rehab and finding more meaning in his regular life. That's how I take it, anyway. I don't want to go into specifics with lyrics but I do find the change from "dull" to "full" in Somewhere Now and Forever Now to be really interesting. Harry Potter.
Billie Joe Armstrong is the master of writing lines that sound nice but don't actually make sense.
.Holly
Ive been spending all my time listening to the awesomeness of Forever Now that I keep forgetting how good the rest of the album is.

Brainstews27
Have any other guitarist noticed all the awesome bow guitar Billie plays throughout the album? You can hear it especially well during the guitar solo on too dumb to die. All those droaning guitar parts and the solo during outlaws as well. Especially where you'd expect strings, I'm pretty sure its Billie bowing a guitar. It's errie and fantastic!

Malleus
The line "I'm like a punk rocker on Labor Day" actually knocks me off my ass with how stupid it is

A punk rocker is supposed to be "anti-establishment" and labor day is a holiday that honors working people. You can't get more "establishment" then that. I thought it was a great way to say that he feels conflicted.
solongfromthestars
Ahh I'm getting excited again to get the CD now I deleted the songs so I definitely couldn't listen and reading all the comments and building excitement in here, also knowing the songs are good and really wanting to hear them again, has totally got me counting down to the release. I'm not saying all of Billie's lyrics are brilliant or anything, but he is a very good writer and there's often deeper meaning in what he says if you examine it. I agree with this explanation completely, btw! It also sort of goes along with the idea of how he says musicians feel unemployed when they're not recording or touring—going from working and traveling all the time to doing nothing must be a very strange feeling. DeJennsitized
Billie Joe's writing can be abstract, but that's what I like about it. Sometimes they have a deeper meaning, sometimes it's nonsense. But it's distinctive. Why should he change it? And the nonsense can be fun to decipher anyway. We can make whatever we want from the lyrics as consumers of the content.

It may sound to you like Steady As seh goes but it is actually a totally different chord progression, so not the same

Platypus2000
Billie is a lyrical genius, he's allowed some passes with the fun, nonsensical lyrics now and again but even then the way he delievers them is awesome. Someone summed it up perfectly in the he is the master of writing lines that make no sense but sound nice. They're just so fun to sing along most of the time too. Glad to see more positive than negative on the album now, it really was a grower. I listened to it on the way to work, and some of the songs just seem to have a perfect "scenario" to them, if that makes any sense. It's a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, it's incredibly personal to Billie unlike 21stCB.

Sanity Loan
This may have already been discussed here, but has anyone else noticed the stark difference in mix (specifically drums) between "Forever Now" and the rest of the songs? It sounds like something from Demolicious.

inthehallwaynow
I think its useless to be like "this song sounds like another bands song" cause lots of songs in the world sound like other songs haha it almost feels as if what those people are really trying to say is the band or Billie copied the other musicians or something, it bugs me. I'm sure intentions are good but yea.
