yes, do you even trilogy?

I do like the three albums. at least some parts of it.

There are really some great tracks on it and I have to admit, I even like the producion and the mixing but there are too many filler songs to make it outstanding good.

You have to listen it front-to-back at least thrice to get into the new sound and style, but once you're in and really pay attention to all the great lyrics, it is a truly worthy successor of 21CB and AI. It's less of drag compared to the former and less heavy, whilst retaining the great lyrics of the operas (particularly Somewhere Now and Forever Now).

Agreed.  I have to do that with just any record.  The first listen is always kind like "what is this, what am I hearing" and then second and third listen I get my favorites picked out, and then it keeps getting better or worse from that point.

But yes, this is a great record.

I'm glad you found a deeper meaning because I still think they're ridiculous. It's obvious what he was trying to say. For example he was trying to find a cause to fight for but failed. But really is the best he could muster

"Looking for a cause
Well all I got was Santa Claus"

It's laughable. And I'm sorry but the cello line still makes no sense. How exactly does he feel like a cello?

In fact the lyrics in nearly every song are silly or nonsensical. Take a read of any of them. Individual sentences make sense but overall verses when you put the sentences together just are stupid.

Here's just one example

Concrete dream
I am gonna make a scene radio
Covered in gasoline
Sleeping in reverse
And everyone’s bouncing off the walls

Or how about we look at a few lines from Somewhere Now

I got a scene in the middle of the road
I’m gonna take my time
I shop online so I can bolt
At the speed of life

I am like drum way up in the sky
I am the shooting star
There’s a soldier that’s freaking out
P.S this is war

One line at a time makes sense. Put them together and I find myself saying what the fuck out loud.

I feel like a cello sometimes.

Even if I don't understand why he keeps making at least a couple of songs in every new record with that minor fourth (to the point that everything in Outlaws is too much predictable), I quite like the song because it is a good attempt to explore new territories.

I can't stand BOTW instead. Verse seems to belong to (the worst moment of) Uno! and I hate that crappy melody he uses in "radioooo". The chorus is Horsehoes and Handgrenades, they didn't even change the key. Lyrically, I find the whole record a bit repetitive and recycling ideas from the past.

Overall I like RR (I'd give it a 6.5/10), I think it has a good sound and there definitely are standouts (Bang Bang, the Who-ish opener and Forever Now with that impressive chorus that reminds me of Sweet Jane for it has almost same chords progression and rhythm); it's probably their best since AI.

I agree that BOTW isn't amazing, but the band feels more together and coherent writing and performing that type of song versuses something like Outlaws (or The Forgotten, Restless Heart  Syndrome, or Last Night On Earth etc.).

It almost feels like a parody with them. They're never subtle with that type of song, they don't ever really display much in the way of restraint.

In the case of Outlaws, it just feels like an excuse to play with the loud/quiet dynamic.

Forever Now is fucking glorious

It really hasn't grown on me so farl. :( I like the transitions and all, but I really don't think the first part is very memorable.

Currently, Bouncing off the walls and Outlaws are being played most often. I do understand the criticism about BOTW though and I agree with it (the riff is really a deja vu), but for some reason I dig the chorus more than enough to look past that.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually on par with Kerrang's excitement over this album. And they're so damn dramatic most of the time.

All this talk about cello's has got me thinking about Weezer's El Scorcho, haha.    It's a line from Too Dumb to Die.  Back when we were all judging the songs by their names alone I thought it was going to be bad.  But weird lyrics and all, it's in my top songs from the album.

i didn't find it hard to understand the lyrics, he's just saying he's super stoned, after all it's about Billie's chldhood

That makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of it that way.

I've had Revolution Radio stuck in my head all day. I've been walking around singing and humming it. I really love it all of a sudden. It's so damn catchy.

Hadn't listened to Too Dumb To Die before. It's quite nice if you don't really pay attention to the lyrics, I guess. But that chello line must be one of the worst lyrics ever written. Like wtf?!

Some people are taking the fun songs too seriously, it probably means something to Billie.

I think...I think it might be my #2. I know it's so ridiculous to say that, but it just mashes all my favorite parts of Green Day together that I can't help but smoosh it right between 21CB and Warning. Because it's their baby.

1. 21CB

2. RevRad

3. Warning

4. AI

5. Kerplunk

6. Nimrod

7. Dookie

8. Insomniac

9. 39/Smooth

10. Trilogy

Same for me, RevRad it's my second favourite but... AI #4? :shok:

Between the titles for Too Dumb to Die, Bouncing Off the Wall, and Troubled Times, I was trying to lower my expectations. But don't judge a song by its title, I suppose.

@Stefano Bras My love for Warning triumphs even over the greatest of punk rock operas, yes.

Ya'll, the lyrics in Too Dumb to Die aren't THAT weird. I love the verse about his father so much.

I don't think it's that nonsense, in my understanding it's just a metaphor to describe his stoned status, and I can kinda relate with it

I've never been stoned, so maybe that's why I don't know what feeling like a cello is like then? :P

I love Warning so badly but AI, RevRad and 21CB have a warm place in my heart.

P.S You changed your username haha, for a moment I thought someone else had your profile pic.

Wait is it really cello? Because I have been playing that line over and over again, and even have had my boyfriend sit and try to figure it out with me. I said last night that it sounded like he was saying cello and then the two of us laughed and said how ridiculous that would be...

As a 20+ year Green Day fan I am sad to say this is the first thing they have ever done that I don't like.    The three songs Bang Bang, Rev Radio, and Still Breathing are cool but the entire rest of the album is a giant waste of time.   No idea what they were thinking with this at all.  By FAR the worst thing they have ever released.    Pre-ordered it obviously to add to the collection but I will just be shelving it when it comes in the mail.
