Not a coincidence that it was released into the world shortly before their first show. Imagine how dead the show would be while the new songs are be being debuted.

Because Billie said that he learned from experience. There was that one show (documented in Quatro) Where they were playing all new songs from the trilogy, and no one was singing along, moshing or anything because they didn't know them. Guess they figure if they can give fans a heads up before their first show, there will be a more-aware audience to perform for.

Aww I miss us just being able to speculate about the songs. Seems half the internet has already heard it. The fact that no one's taken down the link yet is kinda surprising. One has to wonder if it wasn't an intentional marketing act?

I'm confident it wasn't.

They played shows for 21CB before its release.

On an album note. Forever Now can seriously become a fan favourite if played live regularly, it has that perfect live intro "My name is Billie and I'm freaking out", it's similar to how he starts American Idiot with the guitar strumming pattern. It's upbeat, fun, serious and all over the place. It has THE perfect outro to a live song too with the overlapped lyrics and vocals. If executed properly it has the potential to be huge! Seriously loving this song at the moment.

Yeah, bands playing new songs at shows before people know them hasn't been a problem for the many decades it's been happening.

How I'm ranking the tracks so far:

Say Goodbye, Forever Now and Too Dumb to Die are the ones I keep going back to over and over.  I love the first three we heard, I've just overplayed all three of them.  From the second they appeared online I played them about 8000 times in a row so now I don't want to hear them.

(I feel bad but I ruined BANG BANG, Revrad and Still Breathing for myself.  I love all three of them, I Just don't want to hear them for a while.  haha)

I thought Somewhere Now was going to be one of my favorites but I think it's going to take some time for me to figure this one out.  very different and I just don't know yet.

Outlaws is great and it reminds me of 21 Guns.

Bouncing off the Walls -  The title screams "filler!" and it kind of is, but Green Day filler is better than most other musicians best output.  Not bad but probably the weakest song here.

Youngblood - at first listen one might be annoyed with the repetitive, poppy-ness of this one but come on people, it's Green Day and they play "pop" music.  It's good.  Makes me want to fall in love with a girl from Oakland.   :)

Troubled Times -  along with Bouncing, this is one of my least favorites.  Can't help but think of this as a second rate "Devil's Kind".   I would have preferred that song to this one, but this one does have some banging guitars.   it's a hybrid of Restless Heart Syndrome and Devil's Kind.

Ordinary World - This song is great.  The only thing about this one is that I'm so used to the crummy live version I've been playing forever so this one sounds weird to me.   But, I love-love-love this track.         Freaking sweet.

I can't work out how that's going to work rhythmically, I can't seem to fit the line to a rhythm/tune combo.

Also, Outlaws has grown on me, listenable but nothing to be excited about. It reminds me too much of Wild One and Hate To See Your Heart Break by Paramore.

Ordinary World is the only one I actually detest, it sounds like an Ed Sheeran song.

You're going to be upset when it becomes the new "Good Riddance".    Haha.

Sorry I meant American Idiot live* with the guitar harmonics ringing out before he kicks into the main riff.

The thing with Good Riddance is I don't think it's as huge in the UK as it is in America, I hear about GR being played at weddings, proms, graduation parties etc but the song never seems to be used that way over here. I quite like hearing Good Riddance from time to time, it's much better than Ordinary World.

Honestly, when it first started playing the first time I heard it my natural reaction was to expect the AI riff to start playing.

"Looking down the edge of the world
Lost and then tangled it’s freaking me out
Burning lights and blackouts"

The way he sings that is absolutely fucking perfect. The bridge is also excellent. Such a good song.

What's wrong with Ed Sheeran?

Explain. I see a talented singer that oh wait nvm it's he makes pop music like omg :o

No, I just find his music incredibly boring and sappy. Nothing to do with it being pop music.

I compared a RevRad song to Ed Sheeran and someone asked me what was wrong with him so I replied and left it there. Calm down.

So I've finally given the full album a proper listen. Mixed feelings so far but there are some crackers on there. Revolution Radio, Still Breathing, Forever Now and Bouncing Off The Wall are all excellent. Youngblood is complete filler and I'll probably never listen to it again. The rest are various levels of good, I'll need a few more listens to really get my teeth into them. And my lyric reviews will take some time, but it's tradition at this point :P

The mix sounds good. Nice classic AI type sound, so even the weaker songs are reasonably enjoyable. I do hope the official release isn't brickwalled though. I'm sure it won't be quite as shitty as the leak regardless.

I like how the band seem to have taken their time musically on these songs. One thing that got me with the trilogy was how they seemed to rush through songs from verses to choruses and back again with very little breathing room, it was all a frenetic bombardment. There's a good amount of space in these songs and it makes for a more enjoyable experience. Similarly I like the running order, it keeps it nice and varied so you're less likely to tune out. First impressions overall 7/10 but that's subject to change on a whim.

Also Ed Sheeran is scientifically shit.

It's a really fun track when it finally clicks, I thought "what the fuck" at first but it is so much fun.

I let myself listen to Somewhere Now and I was completely blown away. If I closed my eyes I could easily picture this song being played in the Who's Tommy or something.

Bouncing off the wall sounds like a Foxboro Hot Tubs song that's been Green Day-fied. So fucking good.

Wait until your ears absorb Forever Now, it's 10x better.
